Edds can you settle an arguement please why was Benitez so keen to get rid of Alonso please.

{Ed001's Note - because they fell out when Alonso's wife was about to have their first child and Xabi wanted to be at the birth. Rafa couldn't understand why a player would choose to miss a game.}

Thanks you edds.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate. It was something Rafa has learnt from and realised it was a mistake since, but it was a terrible error.}

Ed001 most mangers would not expect that from a player. But I think Klopp would tell his player to go to the birth even if they wanted to play.

{Ed001's Note - Rafa was never the best at man management, he was too aloof, he didn't understand why everyone was not as obsessed about football as he was. As he has got older he has mellowed though.}

Such as shame, probably cost us a league title losing Xabi. Benitez must be mental though! to even ask someone to miss the birth of their child for work is awful!

In Rafa's defense, he missed his own father's funeral whilst Liverpool were in Japan (I think) playing in the Super Cup in 2005. Not quite the same thing I know but I guess he saw that as the ultimate commitment and probably expected similar from his players?

{Ed001's Note - exactly what I was saying by he couldn't understand why others were not as obsessed as he was.}

Ed01, that was a stupid thing for Rafa to do. I know, some players can get over such a wonderful, life-changing event esp. if it is your first child BUT either way, Rafa screwed up and for him to want to dump Xabi just to sign a guy 3 times inferior to him, just sound petty and vindictive, IMO. Man management was definitely not Rafa's strong suit and who knows what might have been had Xabio stayed.
