ed001 it was not the best performance but we got the 3 points. I would rather we let Naby go now for me his like a forward that in and out of the game then pop up and score, but you can't have that in the middle of the park he only ever seems to play one way. I would much rather have Marko Grujic in there I don't know how klopp can say Brewster needs to do more around the pitch and keep giving Naby chance after chance and we get the same thing from him. All so ed I am waiting for everybody to have a go at Gomez because we let 3 goals in but I thought Robbo did ok but the rest of the defence needs to wake up a bit it looked like they thought it was a preseason game.

{Ed001's Note - I would get rid of Keita because he pulled out of at least 3 challenges. You can't get away with that in the centre of midfield, especially when he is so weak on the ball and doesn't work back hard enough. I don't see the point in persisting with him any further.

Gomez started badly but then grew into the game, while van Dijk scored, he was far worse. Virgil needs a wake up call as he was caught ball watching constantly, particularly on their 3rd goal. He needs to forget the accolades, yes he has been the best centre-back in the world for the last few seasons but this is a new season and he needs to earn his place all over again.

Robbo and Salah were good, the rest looked miles off full fitness. It was telling that Salah, who is almost Ronaldo-like obsessive with his fitness, stood out like a sore thumb today as head and shoulders above the rest. The beginning of this season is going to be difficult with so many players still off the pace without a proper pre-season. We are just going to have to be happy with 3 points and hope to keep winning until players can get up to speed.}

I agree Ed. Keita was at fault for that second goal. He gave up on the ball and Leeds had a break. VVD was too nonchalant with the ball in the end, but it all started because of Keita.

{Ed001's Note - it is happening far too often with him for it to be worth persevering imo.}

Ed been saying it so long i can't see ehar keita adds. We should sell him raise some funds. He is just restricting gametime for jones who almost changed the whole dynamics of the game once he was on.
100 percent sure klopp sees that too. Also if matip is fit he should start.
I know a lot of people love gomez but matip is much safe bet for me he is better in air and more aware.
Also we cannot loose gini. He is a rock at anfield.

What do you make of Firmino’s recent performances Ed? Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - you mean today's performance? It is the first proper competitive game of the season. His performance was mixed, he was heavily involved in creating most of our chances, but he was also loose in possession at times. Clearly not fully fit, which is why he never pressed as much as usual, nor chased back as often. Not the worst day, but nowhere near his best.}

Tbf a lot of teams will be the same with fitness we played one of the hardest games of the season and it was our mistakes for 2 goals that let them in it wasn't them creating good opportunities. We will get better i remember the game v norwich last year we could of lost and look what happened.

I told you ed there would be calls for Gomez I be dropped but it was trents man that cut inside away from him I know Gomez could have done better but nobody else gets any stick in are defence. . NO calls for VVD to be dropped yet he was awful even giving the ball away under no pressure. I just think once everybody is fully match fit VVD and Gomez is the best pairing in world football I can’t think of a club side with a better pair.

{Ed001's Note - and Virgil could have come over and helped sooner as well. But neither should be dropped, nor should Trent. They have just been away with international duty and nowhere near match fit. It takes time to get going when you are not at it fitness-wise. Tiredness is the biggest cause of mistakes. Let them get it together again and we will be fine. I agree with you, they are an excellent pairing.}

Ed01, you are right with Keita. I watched him specifically esp. off the ball and he is terrible. He does not work back at all and seems to run into blind alleys a bit too much.

I see why you want him binned, to be honest cos he still does not fit the way we play and it does not look like things will change. As for those saying we should drop Gomez, that is just nonsense, IMO. I thought Gomez played well and was indeed better than VVD. Trent had no preseason cos he was injured so it is normal that he struggled a bit more and Gomez did very well to cover for him too.

I really had hoped that Keita would do better. I'm starting to think that maybe he be sold. I'd much rather see Jones given the chance over Keita. And just stop with the criticism of Gomez. He's clearly the best option to partner with VVD right now in my opinion.

I agree with most said above. Robbo and salah the 2 best performers, the likes of gini, firmino, mane not at their best but still offered threat on the ball. Hendo and Trent had no preseason and just returning from injuries which saw us off the pace. VVD and Trent both caught out of positions which is unlike them. Curtis Jones and gini also not tracking runners for their 3rd led to our CBs out of position with 5 Leeds men in the box not marked. I think starting hendo ahead of fabinho wasn't the best call in this game. I also think we could have used Milner instead of Jones when 3-2 up and Trent getting better protection. Jones had some nice touches but their goal saw him guilty of ball watching and losing tactical stability. The players who had a bad day for us are strong characters and I've no doubt they will learn from today and see them regain their focus and mentality for next fixture.
