ED 2 did say Man City where looking at some expensive options this season but MESSI wow never saw that one coming, be even better beating them to title next season with the supposed GOAT in their team, Robertson will love that!

I have my doubts he's moving anywhere. Forget the 700 Million buy-out clause, teams will think really hard before spending even 200 Million for a 33 year old, in this financial environment. Even if he is goat or sheep or whatever. If I recall correctly, Ronaldo went to Juventus for 100 Million. And Barcelona is not about to let him go for free, as Messi is hoping for.

I'm aware he may have submitted a transfer request, but I still think it's posturing. He probably wants Bartomeu out, and he knows he still has the clout to get it done, in that club. Looks just like a powerplay.

I personally think he will leave as he was going in 2021 regardless by sounds of things, i don't feel this is a power play as no one is bigger than the club and messi is about to find that out.

They've come a long way since they had the original Goat.

Messi would suit a slower paced league given his legs seem to have gone so I would worry for him if he came to the prem Considering he’s struggling with the pace of La Liga right now. Unless he was happy with a bit part role at a prem team but I have a feeling he wants to play every game still.

It’s extremely exciting for football as a whole because absolutely nobody has any idea where he could end up, both based on who would be willing to stump up the money to bring him in and, even more confusing still, what it is he actually wants. I feel like City and Inter are the front runners but there really is no perfect fit for him (although i would love to see him play for Inter to reassert them as a dominant football power) but he really could end up anywhere from United to Newells Old Boys, crazy times to be a football fan.

agreed although i do think the slower pace of the italian league would suit him or the absolute no standards in MLS, but then he wouldn't win any more european cups.

Your adding 40 goals a season to Man City. Hate to say it but he’d fit like a glove aswel.

I’d say he’s Italy bound to be honest as poster above said better paced league for his age.

9.) 26 Aug 2020
26 Aug 2020 17:35:05
Well if he is coming to Man City, that's the premier league in the bag for them for the next few seasons.
There is no way Klopp and co can compete against Man City with Messi joining them.

Becks still has a space for a designated player to earn more than the wage cap. Messi would absolutely rip that league to shreds.

Maybe it won't happen now. Maybe in a year or two. But I bet Inter Miami are definitely wanting to throw their name into the hat.

It’s Messi 2020 vintage not Messi in his prime.

Wouldn’t mind Citeh or United spending a fortune on him and still not finish above us.

We have a strong team ethic.

With Messi it’s all about him. We don’t want or need that at Anfield.

Let him sell his shirts at the Etihad or Old Trafford.

If Messi does move then maybe go to Paris and try to win Champions League there.

I would still fancy our chances for number 7 though.

Chilwell to Chelsea for around 50 million and we get Kostas for under 15 million. Think we have done better business there.

26 Aug 2020 18:50:26
People are saying about the money it might cost any club to get Messi being a lot considering he's 33, but the revenue he would bring in to a club would be absolutely worth it.

13.) 26 Aug 2020
26 Aug 2020 18:51:57
We need to stay as far away from this guy as humanly possible.

A little under 2m a week he costs them, with all bonuses and add-ons, if the Football Leaks figures are correct?

His greed and power plays have put him and his foolish club on the road to footballing ruin.

Let's pray he goes to City or United, and ruins them like he ruined Barcelona.

I don't think United or City would be daft enough to spend that much money on a 33 year old player who has never played over here. He's been/ is and absolutely outstanding talent but I honestly think it would be too much for him to come here now, especially as those teams both have more pressing issues to resolve - it would be nothing but a costly way to try and sell shirts.

Everton a possibility rotating with Bernard.

I remember us being 3-0 down against Messi’s Barcelona with a home leg to come, arriving at Anfield with very little hope just thinking at least I’ll get to see him play in the flesh.
Well I did see him play in the flesh and I also saw him get completely owned to the point where he looked like he was about to cry.
He won’t handle the hustle and bustle of the premier league. Yes he’ll do some great things, he’s a great player but he won’t be anywhere near the player he was at Barcelona 3 or 4 years ago.

17.) 26 Aug 2020
26 Aug 2020 22:04:13
I could be wrong, I often am, but I don’t think Messi would fit in in the premier league.

Defenders will rough him up unlike the protection he craves in Spain and not sure he has the hunger for the fight.

He clearly has had a lot of power at Barcelona and any team taking him in is a huge risk as I think he would expect similar power at a new club.

I may be doing him a huge disservice but Italy or France may suit him better.

Anybody else just don't care?

{Ed0666's Note - I do Burkey. It would be an honor to see Messi grace the premiership. I hope he joins City that still doesn’t mean there guaranteed silver with him in the team. They may have Messi but we have the Messiah.

Why are ye saying he can't handle the pace of the game anymore when he's just scored 25 and assisted 21 in 33 league games? That's 46 goal contributions yet apparently he can't even keep up in la liga? To say English opposition would bully him when he's played 30+ games and nearly a goal a game return against the best English sides only then I'm sure he'd be more than able to run the lesser teams ragged. Come on lads it's Lionel Messi the current ballon d'or holder for God's sake.

27 Aug 2020 09:25:08
Har, it's not so much the pace but the physicallity without as much protection as he seems to get in La-liga or Champions League games. Look how he reacted after Robbo ruffed him up at Anfield. He would be targetted like no ones business by the lesser opposistion as to beat him they need to let him know he is in a game and see how he reacts.

It's that old adage of can he do it on a rainy tuesday night at Stoke and I am not sure he has the will or the fight (I may have read the guy wrong) but it's why I rate Ronaldo as the better player as his attitude to keep getting better his second to none in my opinion.

There is no doubt Messi is top class I just have reservations of how he would adapt to the PL.

He is not a CM they are signing who need to last 90 mts every two days a week. He is a striker and they shall play through him. He knows the system and Pep's style of play and would fit in like glue.
Expert in Set pieces. Best dribbler in the world. his composure in front of the goal is second to none.
Pep will direct his 10 players to work hard for Messi. On the pitch, the man is a goal-scoring machine and off the pitch, well he could bring more money to Manchester city than all of the 19 PL teams combined.
And like Ed02 said. he wouldn't cost a bomb today either. the city will offer players plus cash to land him.
forget the title for the next few years.

27 Aug 2020 10:13:21
WYred - Messi gets little or no protection each game in la liga. He gets kicked about like a rag doll over there. People need to change their thinking on the premier league thinking its this rough and tough league when its simply not anymore as all of that left the league about 2 decades ago.

Also for the people that think leo messi is finished they need to think again. He was top scorer in a league that once again in european competition has been better in each season than the premier league for the past decade with the exception of the year we beat spurs. He would score 30+ playing for city. Will be great to see him in the premier league but frightening all the same.

It would make winning the league even sweeter next season if we do that's for sure.

27 Aug 2020 10:20:00
Forget the title? we play them twice a year in the league and we have beaten a team containing messi before.
Last year we got 99 points should have been more.
I'm not saying for a second we should expect to do the same again but one man doesn't make a team and they still haven't really fixed their defence yet.
In my eyes all to play with or without messi at city.

It would be an Honour to see Messi playing against Burnley on a wednesday night in the pissing rain and snow in the winter, he won't know what's hit him.

Him and Sean Dyche won't be exchanging numbers afterwards lol.
