Question for Ed 001 if you are about please.
Would love to know your thoughts on Pepe Reina. I loved the guy when he was with us and I saw an interview with him yesterday after the Villa game and thought - do you know what, great guy and he'd be a good number two to Alisson. can't quite remember what terms he left on but I would welcome him back to help out and give the younger guys a bit more time to develop. Not sure if Adrian is staying or not?
Love to know your thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - he left on difficult terms, spent months fighting to leave, then got his knickers in a twist when no move happened and he was out of favour because of trying to get out. I wouldn't want him back personally, though I did like him.}

Reina would be a good no. 2. He's good on the ball, has played behind a high line, and seems to be a popular figure in whatever dressing room he's found himself in. He's got plenty of experience that he could pass on to the youngsters, or his presence could mean youngsters get a chance at first team football elsewhere on loan without clogging up a spot long term. If Adrian really was to leave for Betis, I certainly wouldn't mind him coming in, given his wages and the fee are reasonable.

{Ed001's Note - if I remember correctly, which I might not be as it was a long time ago now, he was upset when Valero left. It was that which was the root cause of his issues with the club, I seem to remember.}

I gather he was one a few players who didn't see eye to eye with Mike Kelly, who was Hodgson's goalie coach and de facto assistant even though Sammy Lee was technically still Assistant Manager.

I'd take Reina back as number 2 if Adrian was to leave. I'd say he will still command a back line, was very good at getting the ball out from the back quickly and would be a cheap option as well as good guy yo have around the squad.

He was great for us, surely in everyone's top 5 Liverpool gks. But I have to say I've been pretty underwhelmed by his spell with villa.

Wasn't the issue that he was hell bent on a move to Barcelona to replace the departing Valdes? So we signed Mignolet in preparation and then his Barcelona moved fell apart? Something like that i think anyway.

I find it amazing Reina is still playing in the Premier league. Seems like a lifetime ago he was our goalie.

Pepe was openly courting Barcelona in the media while at the same time, having shocking performances for us in the PL in his final two seasons with us. BR came in and shipped his arse to Napoli on loan, something Pepe did not like and let it be known in the media as well. A very good GK for us overall BUT the way he handled himself at the end there, was disappointing and frankly, a slap in the face of the club, IMO.
