ed001 I see a all time Liverpool 11 thing on the bbc yesterday who would be in yours so hard to pick.
Alisson
Steve Nicol Alan Hansen VVD Andy Robertson
Steven Gerrard Grahame Souness
King Kenny
Sadio Mane Luis Suarez John Barnes
Phil Neal could have been my left back I was just a little to young left back don't think we have had to many great one over the last 30 years before then Steve Staunton and Alan Kennedy would be the ones. The striker role is very hard with Rush Fowler and Torres and with Suarez be such a rat it was a hard choice but he was outstanding when he played. am sure some of the older reds have a few more to choice from.

{Ed001's Note - I don't remember Neal playing left back to be honest. It is a tough one but I think I would go with:

Clem
Jones Hansen VVD Staunton (first time around)
Souness Alonso
Mane Dalglish Barnes
Rush

I feel bad leaving out so many though. Each time I pick one of these it is different as there are so many brilliant players in our history.}

yeah Neal was right back Trent might get that spot in a few years time. I forgot about Rob Jones ed what a shame great player. Am not sure how old I was still remember Nicol's hattrick from right back against Newcastle.

{Ed001's Note - Nicol should be in there somewhere, he was magnificent.}

For me The Great Dane instead of Alonso Ed001 otherwise perfect.

Funnily enough I’ve just been re-reading Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout and Phil Neal was signed as a utility player. He played for about the first 15 months of his Anfield career at LB. Great player, he made my XI as a RB though.
Stevie Nicol or Robertson at LB, keep changing my mind.
I’m very pleasantly struck by how many contemporary players now really come into the selection equation.

Grino, you must have been very young because Nicol played left-back that day, Barry Venison was at right-back. Fantastic hat-trick and he had a fourth ruled out for offside against John Aldridge.

Alonso though only featured little should be in everyone’s team. He was the best ever in the deeper role. What a player.

What an honour, I'm on the same thread as Harry. I'v noticed that Alonso makes many people's teams, including ED001, but Gerrard hardly ever gets mentioned by anyone. Interesting!

{Ed001's Note - different types of players, Alonso is only really matching up against Fabinho in his role, whereas Gerrard is up against just about every old time central mid we have ever had. So, for me, it was a case of Souness is the best ever central mid we have had, so he gets the place. If Gerrard's attitude, in terms of playing where the manager wanted rather than he wanted, I think he would have had more chance of being in. On the right he was sensational and we have had no one able to deliver into the box of that quality until Trent emerged.}

Just pop Nicol in wherever you fancy Ed. I’m pretty sure he’d be awesome.

Surprised to see no mention of Torres on some of these best 11 lists. He was outstanding for us when we were generally quite a poor team.

Torres was a great player but he was no Ian Rush.

Gerrard "has" to be there, especially for any born from 1980 onwards like me. people forget how absolutely shambolic we would have been at times only for Stevie. i think it's the cool thing on this site not to rate him. om from Dublin where basically half d fans are L'pool fans (other half utd), and this site is the ONLY place in my entire life where Gerrard isn't classed in the top 2 r 3 ever to play for the club.

Every ex player, or players that that played with him put him up there with the best the Premier Leagues ever seen but on this site he seems to be looked at like an average mid table player! Crazy.
