This is not just a 44 year old Liverpool fan praying for the best, hoping to replace his hazy memories of winning the league with new ones, but I really cannot see the league season just being abandoned.

A few things could happen, IMHO:

1) I do believe we will squeeze in at least one or two more games

2) The postponement of Euro 2020 is looking increasingly likely, which gives the option of finishing any games during June if needs be.

3) There are SO MANY ramifications, especially financial, to SO MANY clubs, that its really unlikely. There will be numerous legal challenges, not least from us and Leeds, should this happen. As someone else said, it makes zero sense to abandon this season just in order to protect 20/21.

I have seen an example of the Egyptian league being abandoned in light of the civil unrest 7-8 years ago, but that's a totally different kettle of fish - for a start the EPL and EFL are amongst the richest leagues in the world, and money does talk with these things.

Interestingly, the markets seem to be pricing in an element of risk. Sky Bet, which has had us at 1-1000 to win the league for the last few weeks (even after the Watford loss) have now 'only' got us at 1-250.

I know what I'm saying is said in a backdrop of hope as well as everything else, but I really can't see it happening.

A delay? Definitely

A postponement? Very likely

Abandoned? No chance!

I would appreciate any views that the Eds may have gleaned from their contacts within the league or clubs, I know there's a key meeting today.

The postponement that is likely going to come today will push us closer to the peak months of Covid 19.the government are just starting the delay phase so May and June are likely to be worse not better. I was hoping they would start playing behind closed doors so we could get the league finished but I'm getting a bit nervous now.

I looked through this post for any puns and I couldn't find any, this must be serious! And I don't think you are the only one hoping it doesn't get cancelled, I am almost 30, i would like memories of us winning it!

I think they will postpone for a couple of weeks, take stock, and then go from there. I know every rival fan is begging for the season to be cancelled but it makes no sense.

I would imagine the likes of Leicester and Sheff United would also like to see the league finished. Then Lower down your WBA and Leeds, plus those play off hopefuls.

If it was me, I would play the remainder behind closed doors, or into further notice. If it was viable I would push the current competitions i. e. fa cup into next season. As this would then free up dates in the calendar to condense next season. I would say try push the euro competitions back but that wouldn't be fair on team qualifying through league position this year. I have also heard that the european games may go to one legged ties to free up space.

After their meeting though I am sure this will all become a little clearer.

Who cares about club finances etc? If one death can be prevented by cancelling all further games, is that not a better situation?

{Ed002's Note - Going back to the initial post, Liverpool could not make any legal challenge as there would be no basis for it. The Bundesliga proposal will also be discussed where if it were cancelled the top two sides would be added to the PL and then next season would be played with 22 sides with an addition two sides being relegated over the following two seasons.}

Correct me if I'm wrong Ed but the bundesliga proposal also sees them handing next year's European places to the teams that are currently sat in the qualifying spots. If that is the case why would they not hand the title to Bayern as they are currently top.

{Ed002's Note - Because they haven’t won it.}
