Klopp says Neil Critchley will manage a team without first team players for the replay. Hope that's not the case!

Matip, Lovren, Fabinho all need more gametime that they probs won't get in the next two weeks.
Same goes for players like Kieta, Millie, Shaqiri, Minamino.

Much of the squad need a break but not all, of we play only the kids then there is a good chance we'll lose at home and I'm not too keen on that!

I hope he just said that in the heat of the moment and when he reflects realises that isn’t the way forward.

You could put out a strong side resting all the 11. I would see it as disrespecting the cup.

Shrewsbury played well and deserve the replay. By earning the replay they deserve us putting out a squad to win. Klopp should be the manager for the night too.

Long term I think replays are done but this season there here and we should put a team out to win. Putting out the kids will no doubt get us a fine, won’t look great on the club and won’t do the kids any favours losing to a lower tier club.

Just saw Klopp’s post match interview. He said all the PL clubs received a letter from the PL asking them to respect the winter break and not to organise any competitive games or international friendly games - so he will respect their wishes and play the kids in the FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury which falls in the middle of the winter break. Neil Critchley will manage the team. I agree with Klopp 100%, just as I did over the Carabao Cup game against Aston Villa. Someone has to make a stand over the ridiculous demands on elite players. I will go to the replay at Anfield and give the kids my total support whatever happens.

I would say under twenty threes plus like Lovren Adrian players like that. They have barely played, and the likes of Adrian may not play another game this season otherwise.

To be fair the winter break shouldn't have conditions you get a break once you don't draw in the f. a cup doesn't exactly sound fair.

bit of a catch-22 here. Based on what I've read from articles online, so this could be untrue or a version of the truth. But based on that, I mean Klopp has implored for less fixtures. Then when the league creates a 2-week window for a winter break and asks coaches to respect that, but in the other breathe pencils in 4th round replays? that is just craziness.

So if you are Klopp and you have so clearly pitched yourself in the 'less fixtures' camp and you've allowed players to actually time away from the club for this period, he is in a position where he can stick with the plans or adjust against his principles and what he has planned. To be honest, he probably has the credit and goodwill with his players that they would respond if he asked them to stay and play the replay. But I totally understand why he has initially come out so strongly in this way instead. I back him and will look forward to the kids coming out and getting a second chance to make amends for their result against Villa.

I don't understand. They could just schedule the replay after the winter break esp. since the FA themselves stated that NO games should be played over this period, right?

RM, think it’s just the PL that have the break.

They can say what they want about letting players rest etc but they don’t care over Christmas as they just schedule games to suit the tv companies. It should be the other way round. TV isn’t going anywhere so schedule the games and let the TV companies make it work.

There also say they want to be fair to players but might have extra games added to the champs league over the next couple of years.

Personally I think we are getting close to losing the league cup, I think it has been devalued recently with the choice of sponsors etc. And reckon replays will be gone sooner or later. I think today’s tie, as an example, would of been great to get a result today.

Yes Shrewsbury get a chance to play at Anfield but they had every chance of going through if that went to extra time/ pens.

something Klopp was saying before about the different associations not talking together. so presumably whoever organizes the PL has a different crew from that who organize the FA cup. Neither of them communicate and so you end up with situations like this. Anyways, we could have avoided it by holding on to our 2-goal lead. Felt like 2016 all over again haha.

If he plays the kids again and goes out of the competition then he has blotted his copy book for me, I know he's been great in many ways but he has forfeited to many domestic cups since he arrived, the squad should be big enough to cope.

Being mentioned in the same breath other great liverpool side he needs to have success in the cups as well.

Sadly they can only have a certain squad size.

specialK - I think that view is too simple and misses the point. But you're right, Klopp could back track on everything he has said about giving players a break and letting the players take leave during the winter break but then what does that say about his word? catch22 for me and imo he is fine either way.

FA itself should have respected the winter break by not keeping the replay during this period.

Havung said that, I think Klopp could have avoided to comment on the same in public or should not have been this strong in the response as this shows a lack of respect to Shrewsburry. We should have worked with the FA to sort out the issue.

Just send out the same team, it's there fault that there is a replay because they didn't beat Shrewsbury, so send them back out to do what they should've done yesterday.
