Obviously our points total and the fact we've only drawn 1 game, but are Liverpool actually that good this season. The only reason why j say this is there's been several games where we haven't looked that good but still won. Also I'd say we've never looked like losing at any point this season. But look at the state of the table. United are still 5th and are absolutely terrible. Spurs Arsenal the same. Chelsea are 4th but haven't been great either. I don't want to take anything away from what we are doing, but the standard of the opposition this season hasn't been good.
Here's hoping Ole gets a new contract anyway.

If we are not playing well and the other teams aren't playing well, surely we should be on roughly the same points? Weve been superb and fortunate but most of all we've worked our asses off to not lose a single game. The other teams haven't been poor all season, they just haven’t raised their performance levels consistently high in the way we have.

We have been very, very good this season. Lucky at times but I think we have earned our luck for the most part.

Hopefully this incredible season isn't tainted by the fact that everyone else (bar Leicester and Sheffield United IMO) have been absolutely dreadful.

With 21 wins out of 22, I'd say we are that good, tbh. Thought I heard a stat that no one in any of the top European leagues had ever done that? If it was just weak opponents we'd have taken our eye off it and dropped more points by now.

The issue is that outside the current top 4, the majority of teams are on broadly the same level and can keep taking points off each other. So that allows Chelsea, for example, to still be 4th despite being in a poor run of form. I haven't watched too many non Liverpool matches so I can't make a judgment on call on whether they're all decent or all rubbish, but they are close together (4 points separate 5th and 15th) . Quite a few teams looked useful enough against us.

On Utd specifically, despite being awful to watch, they've actually conceded relatively few goals (only ourselves, City, Leicester and Sheffield United have conceded less) and in Rashford had someone reliably hitting the net. With him injured for a while, I suspect they won't remain 5th very long though.

Also, whilst Spurs and United are apparently terrible, people are praising how good Wolves are. All three clubs are on 34 points.

We have become experts at doing enough, and raising our game when we need to. City blew them away, Leicester too. We control games at 50% like the last few games, wolves, spurs, United, all teams you can drop points too. Long season and klopp has leanrt you can 100% at all times.

I'm just being more objective obviously we have been good. But is it partly down to the standard of opposition we've been facing in the league. Weve struggled abit in Europe this season. Watched a bit of spurs and united this season and they have been awful. Yet United 5th and spurs 7th or 8th. Burnley win 2 on the bounce and suddenly closer to united in 5th than the relegation zone. It just seems a lot of the other teams just haven't been good this season.

Sometimes the oppositions can cause a team to be dreadful. I personally think it's the quality of the teams outside of the so called big teams are better. That might be the reason why the points difference is quite close. Liverpool on the other hand is clearly keep on improving. This is my first time seeing a Liverpool team that are extremely consistent with their performance.

Yet Chelsea, Spurs and City have all made the last 16 of the CL. Arsenal and Utd through in the Europa.
Maybe it’s not that all of the teams are worse but the standard of the whipping boys has risen so they can now compete with the so called big 6 and take points off the historically bigger sides.
We’ve just raised our game to a whole new level and although we are not devastating we are devastatingly efficient.

I think quite often you need some competition to push you to your top level, i don't believe Ronaldo becomes as good without Messi and vice-versa for example. Considering nobody is near us, the level of our performance has been remarkable that we've maintained our concentration and focus.

Hopefully the formatting comes out well. The columns list the points gap each since 2008-09 for positions 1st - 2nd, 1st - 4th, 1st - 5th and 2nd to 4th.

In simple terms, there are typically, at most, 2 teams that perform well and separate themselves from the pack. So this year is no exception really other than we are the one team out performing everyone and no one is sticking with us. Kinda like City in 2017-18.

Liverpool have been superb. Its the sign of champions, winning when you haven't played that well. But most games we have been fantastic. The points of 2nd 3rd and 4th are no different than any other season really.

We are making them look poor as we (and City Tbf) have taken the Premier league to a new level.

Basically from the 2008-09 season to 2018-19, the average points gaps have been :

1st to 2nd = 6.5 pts
1st to 4th = 17.27 pts
1st to 5th = 21.18 pts
2nd to 4th = 9.81 pts

Point being, it is very normal that the champions and whoever comes second are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest.

Comparisons are always subjective, even when you are being statistical. Everything is always wide open to different interpretations. My personal view is that we played better last year from an aesthetic perspective. But as I said, it's subjective. I wouldn't argue with anyone if they said we are better this year; the table says so. But, the boys are now much better "managers" of situations within a game. Signs of a maturing team and players. If we fall behind, they don't panic and continue with the plan. If we score first, they don't let up and keep going to finish off games. If we come under pressure, the wagons circle around and we see even Salah chipping in defensively until the pressure eases off. Klopp is a "team first" teacher of the game, and we see all players assuming responsibility, more and more.

This is rubbish. Leicester and Sheffield have been the only good teams. Why aren't they 2nd and 3rd then?

Don't take away from our fantastic season. City have made us think anything other than a 90 point plus season is rubbish. It's nonsense. And we as reds fans are not counting ourselves. Everyone else sees - one team running away (as usual (ish) ) a decent 2nd place team. City are still a brilliant football team. One of the world's best. And a few more fighting it out for 3rd and 4th. The only unusual thing is not how poor everyone else has been, but how brilliant we have been

It's only Liverpool fans that think this, I'm sure. The younger fans don't know how to handle success. Get used to it, I have a feeling its going to be a common occurrence.

Sorry to sound harsh, but this debate is really doing my swede in. We are having the greatest season any European, top league team has EVER had. And some are trying to diminish it by suggesting that all of a sudden, over the space of a summer, the world's best league has turned into the SPL. (no offence Scotland) full of half arsed teams.

I would say Liverpool have gone up a level. City have not but were already on another level and the teams in 6th to 12th have gone up a notch, making it harder for the 4th,5th place teams to be consistent.
Chelsea are struggling with hardly no signings and an overhyped manager. Arsenal are finding their feet and utd have a poor manager.

But its the likes of Leicester, wolves, Sheffield and Southampton, even Palace who are making the big guns misfire.
