Superb and concise read dude!
Thanks for that on this slow news day it's like a ghost town on here today!

{Ed001's Note - that's why I thought I would post it up today. We have been having server issues for the last week or so, which is probably a big part of it being quiet.

Really glad you enjoyed it. It was difficult to try and keep it to just about him as manager of us, rather than just getting carried away and doing a full article about Shanks! There are so many great quotes etc, but they are for a full article just about Shankly.}

Thanks Ed. I have only ever been a Reds fan, over 40yrs now and its humbling to read up on our history. My sympathies goes out to EMS i know exactly what he has been going thru. To you and all the other Editors, thank you so much i spent most of my spare time scrolling thru the banter and rumours site.

{Ed001's Note - thank you timma, really glad you enjoy the sites.}

Thank you for that Ed I really enjoyed it, possibly my favourite one. I find it fitting that there’s only one Statue at Anfield. And it’s the father of the club.

{Ed001's Note - he was truly special. A great character.}

Brilliant read, Tris, thanks a million. What a fascinating man he was! The retirement business was very sad though, it’s a pity he didn’t just take a hiatus for a year, realise that he was lost without football and come back in again. But then that would have impacted on Paisley so.

It made me think of Klopp: history may well repeat itself when Jurgen goes i. e. the new man in after Klopp may well have more success but for the fans it will always be Klopp who is more revered having restored the club to the top after years of misery. Whenever Klopp decides to go I hope he gets invited to away games as a guest of the club a least!

Amazing article!

{Ed001's Note - I don't expect Klopp to come in and start taking training after quitting though. That was the problem, Shanks couldn't just sit back and enjoy retirement. He should never have retired really, he was only happy when in the middle of football.}

Thanks Ed. Brilliant read. Your knowledge knows no ends.

{Ed001's Note - it is research rather than knowledge mate, but thank you.}

Spot on Ed 👍🏻
There’s an audio only recording of Bill Shankly on ‘This is Your Life’ online, which is well worth a listen. I’m sure that I’ve seen the actual programme but it’s been removed since for some reason.
Let’s hope that 2020 is when we get back our bread and butter, Everton can have that fancy pasta.

Ed 001’s article on Shankly makes me want to know more about the great man (Shanks that is, sorry Tris! ) . Can anyone recommend a good biography please?

The word "legend" is used too much these days. Bill shankly is a legend. So sad how he was phased out. After all he did for us. Good write up ed01. Imagine if we'd never snapped him up? God knows where we'd be.

{Ed001's Note - it also shows how important it is for the board to support the manager.}

Absolutely. Sounds like they felt threatened by his personality. Such a strong character having a strong grip on the club.

It was also good to read about the days when the fa Cup was a really big deal. When I was growing up it was massive.

So he won league titles, fa Cup, league Cup, European Cup. He won the uefa Cup too didn't he? Phenomenal.

Shame about his playing career. How good could he have been do you reckon?

Thanks Ed, really enjoyed it mate. always look forward to articles like this one, i imagine this is a great one for you to research. i know how you feel about Paisley so really looking forward to part 10!

{Ed001's Note - it was great to research but so difficult to know when to stop and what to leave out!}

Like you said above mate, shanks had so many quotes and anecdotes you could have put in. Can imagine how hard it was not to digress with him.

{Ed001's Note - that was why it took so long, had to keep taking stuff out.}

Really enjoyed every word of that Ed001, well done mate.
I turned a few heads in the office with my laughter when I got to the Bob Paisley replied: "He's trying to get right away from football. I believe he went to Everton. " LOL

It reminded me of how a great manager can have such a positive effect on a football club on every level, and I really believe Klopp is one of those, with the personality to match.

With Lijnders perhaps eventually taking over as his natural successor, we could be in for a sustained period of success to rival those glory days. But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet, eh?

Already really looking forward to Part 10.
Thanks!
