Ed001, can you help me a bit here, pls? After the pummeling we put on Leicester, did BR actually say and I quote, "We had a big part to play in the project". Did he mean his project that Klopp had to rip up and start over or was he trying to take some credit for our success under Klopp?

{Ed001's Note - he said it before the game. But yes he did say that and it was hilarious. What he said afterwards was about how well Leicester played, which was even more ridiculous.

The bit about the project, I am still trying to figure out who 'we' is. Does he mean the coaching staff, including his good friend Colin Pascoe, who he stabbed in the back as soon as the chance came? Or perhaps his wife, that he dumped for a younger model when the chance came?}

I believe he was referring to his teeth Ed.

{Ed001's Note - or the salon that did his tan?}

crikey Ed001 don't hold back will ya lol.

{Ed001's Note - just pointing out that for all the talk of what a nice guy he is, Rodgers was guilty of being a two-faced prick while with us. Backstabbed the people closest to him in the world for his own personal gain. That is not the mark of a nice guy imo.}

Ed0001 was in the envelopes.

{Ed001's Note - hahahaha! Along with Brendan Rodgers and Colin Pascoe maybe?}

Under Rodgers we bought Lallana, Lovren, Gomez, Milner,

This is probably what he’s trying to claim as his great work in the Project
Have got the room here to lust those who didn’t make it JT who were have had to move on.
He left that bit out I notice.

Wasn't he instructed to ditch Pascoe, by the club?

If so, he is a craven, backstabbing shyster, totally undeserving of any trust whatsoever.

Even some of Rodgers worst signings have proven to be good players the likes of aspas and alberto were often laughed at and look at them now. Rodgers had his ups and downs but we exaggerated the downs to get him out with the hope of getting klopp in. Obviously there's no explaining markovic but we can credit Rodgers for giving hendo the captaincy (I know he nearly sold him too), milner, coutinho, that title run, some truly lovely football.

Yes he's an arse of a bloke and the documentary didn't help but he was generally okay for 90% of his time here and remember poetry in motion and were on our way to glory. He was almost a Liverpool legend but yes he contributed to his own downfall.

I'm sure he'll want credit for Bobby too even though he didn't want him.

{Ed001's Note - oh yes and Milner even though he had no idea how to use him.}

I’ve spoken to pascoe and believe me when I tell you him and Rodgers are no longer friends. 😤 he threw pascoe under the bus big time. shows the type of guy Rodgers is really to do that to you’re good buddy for years.

{Ed001's Note - I know mate. Pascoe is a nice guy as well and he got completely done up by Rodgers.}

@ Jezza - I'm sure I'll be accused of historical revisionism here, but we were beyond lucky to take the title race in 13/ 14 as far as we did. Migs, Johnson, Skrtel and Sakho regularly made shocking errors that went unpunished. We basically didn't have a Premier League level left back (where's Jon Flanagan now? Anyone? ) . Gerrard, who could not defend, sat in front of them from January and gave little protection. We were routinely second best against average teams in the second half of the season, but a combination of starting games aggressively and our front 4's penchant for pulling goals out of nothing got us off the hook so many times.

You look at results like 5-3 against Stoke, 6-3 against Cardiff, 4-3 against Swansea, and 3-2 against Norwich and the draw with Crystal Palace that all but confirmed the title for City really looks like an inevitability.

And as soon as Suarez was gone and our attack blunted, we couldn't pull those results off anymore. The man hadn't a clue tactically, and I suspect, based how easily and thoroughly we outclassed Leicester at Christmas, that he still doesn't.

And either side of that 'nearly' season, I remember less poetry in motion and more mind-numbingly slow build up that was neutered by any team with a competent manager.

whao, never knew he was such a prick.

i actually stand on the other side of the fence about our title run-in. i thought he was carried by an incredible Suarez (the player, not the person), Sturridge who had his best season ever, Sterling who had a break out season, Coutinho who was then very good. if he was a half decent coach who could organize a defence, we would have gone on to win the league easily.

yes, he did sign a handful of good players but apart from Couts and Studge, the rest did better under Klopp (Lallana, Lovern, Sakho, Can, Origi, Milner, Gomez, Firmino) .

More importantly, he signed a number of high profile flops - Balotelli, Benteke (who cost more and was supposed to replace Balo but ended up being more or less the same), Mignolet, Markovic, and never got the best out of Borini, Sahin, Luis Alberto, Suso.

we are at a better place now and i'm just glad the BR belonged only in the dark ages of our history and nothing more.

As someone from Swansea ( Pascoe's home town ) i can tell you that we were all amazed that Rodgers took him to Liverpool with him. Pascoe might have been a nice guy, but was useless as a No 2. Rodgers took him there, because he was his mate. What was he supposed to do, when all at Liverpool realised how useless he was. Disappointed in you Ed 1, bringing the fact that he left his wife, as nobody knows what goes on in peoples private lives. I don't know, what his wife was like in real life, and neither do you.

{Ed001's Note - what the hell? You may not have a clue but Rodgers was abusing his power at the club to get his end away and now you want to have a go at me? Disappointed? I am disappointed that you think it is ok for someone to stab their mate in the back rather than just wonder why he brought him with him if he was useless. You clearly have not thought it through in your haste to defend a chancer who shafted the club. But you carry on having a dig at me for defending the club.}

I especially remember Suso and Sahin having a few good games and looking promising and then Rogers dumped them off the squad for good for no apparent reason. Klopp really schooled him last week, fair play to him!

Brendan Rodgers seems to be someone who is always at the right place at the right time. Liverpool just happen to be looking for a young up and coming manager after he finishes a decent league season with Swansea.

He then take over the best team in possibly the worst "Top Flight" league in Europe. Wins everything in site with them without any real challenge then lucks his way into a decent Leicester side.

Many thanks for the info, Ed01. As for those defending BR and all that, you are free to do that BUT the rest of us are free to disagree. For me, BR is nothing but a disloyal, dishonest, lying and coniving opportunist, period. I could not be arsed about the whole 13/ 14 season schstick cos I never believed we would win the PL UNTIL it actually happened cos we all saw that that challenge was built on quicksand and we all knew (if are being honest) that if anything went wrong, we would be in trouble and it was BR's own arrogance that led us to lose the PL cos he refused to fix a defence the was leaking goals for fun.

As for his "signings" like Can, Lovs, Bobbie (the guy he did not even want), Milner, Lallana etc, how can he get credit for the huge progress these players have made under another manager whereas when he was here, he could not do a damn thing with them? That makes NO sense. Also, stabbing his own assistants in the back in a bid to save his own skin, is the worst sign of disloyalty ever.

The fact of the matter is that whatever BR "achieved" here, Klopp has surpassed him 5 times over and him trying to take some credit for where we are just cos he signed some players that who are getting it done now, the very same ones he could not get a damn thing out of, will NEVER change that. BR is still who he has always been: A lying, dishonest, disloyal and opportunistic individual who only cares about himself and what benefits him and him only.

{Ed001's Note - that's the thing that most stuck in my craw. He is all about Brendan. When a player played well Brendan would talk about how he had managed to get these performances out of him. When a player played badly, it was always the player's fault.

The moment he took over Liverpool, his very first interview he mentioned how he was learning Spanish to go and manage Barcelona. He had reached the pinnacle of the game but all he saw it as was a step towards his ambition of managing Barcelona, while calling himself a Liverpool fan!}

Spot on, Ed01. I even remember him saying after he messed up the PL that season, he said in that summer that he wanted to coach Madrid or Barcelona back then. Many thanks for clarifying cos I was listening to your podcast and heard you say BR said what he said. I said, "Really? . Is this guy insane? No way. I got to verify that". Peace and Love for 2020, my friend.

{Ed001's Note - Happy New Year to you too mate, hopefully it is a great one for all.}

We’ve had one manager in the last decade with the nous to manage Barcelona or Madrid.
And he’s just signed a new contract ;)

Do you think though that the end of his era was a sliding doors moment? Because if he wasn't looking after no.1 at that time, then in all probability we wouldn't have got Klopp?
Maybe I'm wrong but if BR had remained loyal and refused to replace his friends, and then indeed got sacked himself, would we be where we are today?

Personal character assassinations shouldn't be used to talk about the facts of his tenure.

If I ask did he play a part in this moment we are in now? an answer is not "well he cheated on his wife so no".

He gave TAA his debut. Signed Lovren, Gomez, Milner, Firmino, Lallana, Origiiiiiiiii, ( and didn't sell Henderson, by fluke) - who apart from Lovren could all start today. In my opinion he has played a part in our club just not in the performances, but the management of it. His tenure was riddled with mistakes in recruit mainely and I believe it massively educated our board and upper echelons of staff. They put in contingencies on the back of that - or stood true to their original thinking - which has allowed us to dominate the transfer market and put us about 3 years away from a bad signing.

BR remained in complete control against the wishes of the board, that was something they wouldn't let happen again. Its a democracy in signings now. If the manager wants then he is trusted but how many times have we heard Ed002 say "Klopp wanted x but he was pursuaded to get Y" - This is how they wanted the club from day dot, they went against that with BR. Remember the famed transfer committee, when did we last hear that mentioned? Although it still exists and is thriving - over to you Minaminoooo

Not claiming he played any part in our current performing dominance. Just highlighting actual facts for a logical response to the OP.

05 Jan 2020 09:37:35
Brick for starters, TAA got his debut vs Leeds in the League Cup in late 2016 by Jurgen Klopp, NOT Brendan so there's that. Also, I could not be arsed about his private scruples cos that does NOT have a thing to do with his tenure as manager.

Now to respond to your comments, you make some valid points however, I fully disagree with you saying he had any part to play in where we are today (management or not) . He does NOT. Allow me to deconstruct. You say he signed all the players you mentioned. Majority of those players were being destroyed for not being good enuff cos they were not performing under this same manager that you say has a hand in where we are now. Worse, BR kept throwing them under the bus whenever they under-performed YET would take ALL the credit whenever they did. That is despicable and pathetic on a human and professional level. Ed01 also said he was repeatedly abusing his power at the club. You cool with that?

Furthermore, I do not have a short memory here. I recall how bad of a mess BR left Klopp with as a bunch of our boys kept pulling hamstrings cos they were not fit enuf to play his way and the YET the same players you mentioned started performing under Klopp so how can you say he has some part to play in our current success with the total mess he left Klopp that took 3 years for him to clean up? Sorry I fully disagree.

I maintain that based on the facts (not revisionist history or short memory) that BR's personal, pathetic flaws as a man, filtered into his professional life (disloyalty, lying, opportunistic behavior, selfishness, self-serving attitude, narcasissm, back-stabbing etc) and that was his downfall so he gets NO credit for where we are esp. with the HUGE mess Klopp took three years to clean up.

Clearly, he has not changed cos he is still doing those things. Pretty sure when we hopefully win the PL in May, he will going on and on about it as if he was part of the coaching crew that got it done. Peace!

05 Jan 2020 12:09:57
Brick-Top if you're not claiming he played any part in our current dominance, what are you on about then? Why are you pointing out that he signed 5 current first choice players (I'd argue it's 3 at the most btw, Origi and Lallana are not first choice and won't be)? Surely that's trying to give credit to Rodgers for our current squad?

And I also find it strange that you're saying that Brendan had full control of over transfers when I distinctly remember all his acolytes in the media and on fan forums trying to blame every bad signing on the "famed transfer committee". And he definitely had to be persuaded to sign Firmino (a player you credit him for) and would only agree to it on the basis that we had the money to sign both him and Benteke.

24.) 05 Jan 2020
05 Jan 2020 14:58:04
Spot on, Something Red. Like many others, I do not have a short memory. I fully remember all the garbage BR did and say, majority of which to vover his incompetent and clueless arse in the media and made the club his enemy and a good example of that was how he demonized the Transfer Commitee of which mind you, he was IN CHARGE of and had the FINAL say on transfers. Yet when Balotelli and the other flops got signed, he said and did nothing and placed the blame on them. A total lying, calculating, back-stabbing coward, in my book.

BR made the TC look like his enemy and that they were undermining him and the media bought his rubbish. If that was the case, why has Klopp had NO problems with them? Exactly. BR was useless overall at transfers so to save face, he would throw the TC under the boss as a shield to protect himself from the blow-back for the flops and duds he was signing. I maintain, BR deserves NO credit for a damn thing we have achieved since he left. Not a DAMN thing.

I think he mis spoke. I think he was trying to say that that game was a big part of Leicester's project.

And tbf, as the previous manager (who signed firmino) he's played a part in this project. With the money we got from coutinio sale we could afford players like vvd and Alison. He was a point from the league too. He's proved he's a decent manager with celtic and Leicester. I think the brodge gets too much stick.
