Bloody terrible news regarding Afobe. You just never know what's around the corner do you? Rip little one.

Just how much a farce is the UEFA coefficient?

Barca and Chelsea both got more coefficient points last season that Liverpool did, despite Liverpool winning the CL. Season before that Liverpool got more points despite losing in the final.

It seems like a total mess.

{Ed002's Note - It is not a mess, you simply don’t understand it.}

Absolutely horrific for Afobe. Can’t imagine how the family are doing right now.

Sorry Ed002, but I do understand how the points are allocated. But I don't agree that that is a fair way of doing it.

Disagreeing with something is not the same as not understanding it. Just because I think something is a farce does not mean I don't understand it.

In my opinion there should be a system where the winner of the competition is given maximum points and then the rest of the teams have points allocated according to what stage of the competition they reached and their results during the competition.

And this isn't anything to do with Liverpool specifically, I think it's silly that Atletico Madrid dropped into the Europa League after the group stage in 17/ 18 but still ended up with more coefficient points than Roma who got to the semi final of the CL, beating Barcelona in the quarter final who still got the same points as Roma as well. I appreciate that Atleti went on to win the Europa League, but personally I don't think the current coefficient system is the best possible system.

{Ed002's Note - It is about Liverpool - it is the usual whining that regardless of poor performances, losses and draws that you still expect some sort of exception to be made to give Liverpool more points. It is embarrassing.}

What are you talking about Ed002? Is your hatred of Liverpool fans really that ingrained? That we can't have an opinion on something without it being us whining and that we want exceptions?

This isn't about Liverpool at all? It's about the coefficient system that is very confusing and in my opinion should be changed?

I specifically mentioned Atleti and Roma as an example of this? Chelsea last season outscored 3 of the 4 semi finalists from the CL despite playing in the "lesser" tournament against teams with lower coefficients themselves. Ajax got more points than Spurs despite Spurs getting to the final. For people watching the competitions this could easily lead to confusion.

All I was saying was that the scoring system, in my opinion, should be changed, so that it is clearer for the every day fan how the points are allocated.

Are we not allowed to have opinions on football things now?

I am with you on the scoring system RedDawn, it should be clear, fair and transparent for everyone,
but just as important is a level playing field, as in how some teams get looked after and some dont,
and I am not just talking about Liverpool .

Spot On, Epic. I read that story and I was heart-broken. As a father of a 4 year old and a 16 month old, I could not begin to imagine what Afobe and his fam are going thru right now. All my prayers go to Benik and his fam. RIP, Amora! You are blessed.

Red Dawn. It's not only about current performances. It factors in historical success also; hence why Manchester United are still there despite being in the Europa league and possibly no European football next season.

Even if that happens, they'll still be in the top 20.

Also, it's not really about the "every day fan". It's a way of grading clubs on, for one example, how they should be placed in groups in a tournament, among other things.

Am I kind of on the right page, Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - The year on year figures are to do with winning games. Nothing else. There are no specific provisions to give a better deal to Liverpool because the supporters whine.}

Please point me to where I have whined Ed002?

Personally I think it's ridiculous to have a scoring system that awards the same number of points to a team that wins at home to Fehervar FC in the Europa League Group Stage as it does for winning away at Real Madrid in the Champions League Group Stage.

2 points for a Group Stage Win in both competitions.

That doesn't seem right to me. It's got nothing to do with "whining" or wanting preferential treatment for Liverpool. It's to do with me not thinking the present system is right.

Are we not allowed to have opinions on things anymore? Or is that "whining"?

{Ed002's Note - You do nothing but whine.}
