Ed01, I was shocked out of my wits when I learned today that the RBS manager is Jesse Marsch. For those who don't know, Jesse Marsch is an American who played footie in the MLS for several years. I watched a bit of him when I was in the States and he was an ok player, nothing more. He then went into coaching and frankly, not that great.

Now, he is the manager of that brilliant RBS team that came to Anfield and played a blinder, IMO in terms of their pressing system and attacking play.

I just wanted to say how impressed I am that an American coach is actually getting it done in Europe and esp. at the highest level in the CL since American coaches aren't rated at all, not even in their own country. They are struggling badly at the internationally right now so good to know there is hope for them.

{Ed001's Note - he basically only has to coach a set up that is in place to play that way already. So it doesn't mean he is all that good. We won't know what his level is until he leaves there.}

Honestly, I think the most impressive thing about the whole Red Bull setup is their scouting, they've signed a lot of very bright youngsters with bucketloads of potential.

Thanks for the context, Ed. you are correct regarding the setup RBS has. I just remembered now that in the past, RBS were coached by the German Roger Schmidt, who coached the high, counter-press system that RBS and ironically, RBL plays now (at least when Hassenhutel was manager) . The two players who played in that system at RBS were a certain Sadio Mane (ripped Bayern a new one in the CL that time) and Naby Keita. I wonder what happened to those two, lol? So I can now understand how Marsch is just there to coach the system that has been there for years.

{Ed001's Note - he might turn out to be a great though mate, but it is a bit early to tell. They have a great set up there.}

True that, Ed.
