Hi Ed’s, is it true about recent allegations that Liverpool paid Man City 1 million after hacking into their scouting system? If it is true any idea of the consequences of this action if there would be any at all?

{Ed002's Note - Yes it is true but it was several years ago and Liverpool gave them a bung to hush it up. The FA are being pushed to open an investigation and Liverpool will claim it is a private matter. It is the Liverpool way remember.}

> The FA are being pushed to open an investigation
============================
Can I ask who is pushing the FA to open an investigation? ie is it Man city and if its so why now (after several years) ?
The reason I am asking, if its not Man city pushing for it, then Liverpool may have the right of saying its private matter, unless its a criminal investigation?

{Ed002's Note - No it is not Manchester City - they were paid hush money by Liverpool to not disclose the actions of Dave Fallows - although it was well known at the time. Liverpool will need to respond and saying it is a private matter will do more harm than good if there was an investigation and those involved lied to it (something Liverpool has previously done). Liverpool likely need to come clean and publicly apologise (again) for yet another breach of FA rules. Obviously the hacking of computers is a criminal matter which could potentially lead to court action. The matter has also now been raised with FIFA. Liverpool have not made a good job of cleaning up their act - eventually the arrogance and the dreadful behavior of the club will come back to bite them. The trailing slime and apologies have worn rather thin.}

According to some journalists, an investigation will not take place as neither club appear to want one given the Non-Disclosure conditions attached to the payment.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously neither club want one - but the Non Disclosure Agreement does no more than stop the two parties from discosing the matter - and they didn't. At the very least it is yet another serious breach of FA rules regarding yet another English side and it might well be interpreted as a criminal offence as well. Nobody should be surprised by this.}

Oh, this is stooping very low. Really. Hacking into a competitor's computer system. I'm shocked. How do these guys keep their jobs?

{Ed002's Note - To be honest there might need to be a sacrafice or two in the recruitment and scouting set up.}

This has happened here in the US too one MLB team hacked into another clubs system and it did require terminations from scouting or player development, a hefty fine and some sanctions but I can't remember what they were.

Thanks for the reply Ed002. What idiot would think it’s acceptable to hack into another clubs scouting system is beyond me! I hope Liverpool gets punished on this one as they have gotten away with far to much in recent years. It’s a real pity to have these things hanging over the club when results and performances on the pitch have been so good in recent months.

Apparently it were former City employees who's logins from their time at City had not being erased. don't know if this is true or not but if it is its hardly hacking, just rather inept on Citys part. Unethical i'd say though.

{Ed001's Note - it is still hacking and breaking the law. It doesn't matter if City's security was lax, what was done is a crime: "It is the unauthorised use of, or access into, computers or networks by exploiting identified security vulnerabilities." That is the CPS definition. I do wish people would stop trying to defend the club over things like this, these kind of problems are a recurring theme and there is no excuse for it.}

Come on little naby, if you left your job and went to a rival, and still accessed the systems of your old job, can you not see how that’s illegal?

Thats like breaking into someone’s house and saying it’s their fault for not locking the widows.

{Ed002's Note - It is also a serious breach of FA rules.}

What's the consequences of these actions ed?

{Ed002's Note - None unless The FA give in to pressure and look in to the matter. FIFA might also put pressure on The FA. There will be push in the coming days for The FA to make a statement and they are being asked to also state what their actions would be if hacking was proven - as that is a criminal matter in addition to any charges about a breach of the rules. There are many, many clubs that want to see and end to the arrogance and illegal activities of the club. The FA had their hands tied in three of Liverpool’s tapping up cases as there was no complaint. Liverpool fouling up a kids career got the club a lengthy ban at youth level (and only at youth level because the club lied to the investigation). This matter goes back some years and I on’t get why the Times has decided to disclose this now. Someone, although no longer with the paper, knew about it at the time (in 2013).

Rui Pinto was charged with nearly 150 offences for his hacking activities.}

Ed2, you are painting a very troubling picture of the club there.
I am seriously concerned on the stupidity and arrogance for this to happen - for what possible benefit?!
Not sure if you can answer this but - how far up does this stink of a mess go?
Owners?
Edwards?
Klopp?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - The event predates Klopp.}

Good grief! What on earth is going on here? Hacking? As Ed02 said, that is a crime, no matter how you slice it. If I were the club owners, I would send a message to the public that this will not b tolerated regardless of whether us and City settled the matter already. Heads must roll here, IMO.

This whole saga seems very distasteful from the outset. I'l always try to defend Liverpool and be proud of how we represent ourselves but this seems like genuine low class behaviour if we've acted like that.

ED just a quick question if you can answer. Has this kind of issue happened with other clubs in the past where the FA has had to take action? And also why would city not have pushed to get us punished for such a serious breach? A 1mill settlement seems pointless to a wealthy club like city and it also occurred in the year when we were competing a strong rivalry, seems odd they would not pursue further punishment.
