Hi Ed002,

Hope you are well. I have always appreciated your updates in respect of what a future European football landscape might look like. I understand there was a large meeting in Geneva yesterday and wanted to hear from you if there were any interesting take-aways (Liverpool related or otherwise) .

Keep up the excellent work on this site - I know I speak more many when I say how grateful I am for your continued contributions.

Red Sandman.

{Ed002's Note - That was just the European Club Association meeting. It is unrelated to the "elite" sides that meet (they met in Monte Carlo a couple of weeks ago). The ECA has all and sundry there and it will have been the usual series of statements about too much money to the English sides, the larger sides in other countries, what is happening with UEFA and planned changes to competitions, potential rule changes etc..}

Thanks, Ed002 - appreciate the response.

Was there anything of note to report from the Monte Carlo meeting? Or are those big plans still a few too many years away to be in a position to comment on how it will effect the European tax landscape? Are Liverpool still not allowed a seat at the big boy table at these meetings?

{Ed002's Note - It was a shorter affair than usual - there is a reception the previous evening but a number of folks were busy talking transfers with other clubs and the meeting was riushed in to an 0800-1200 window. The agenda was:

- Young Player Transfers - requested by a french side
- Revised Rules for Representatives and Licensing of Agents (The FA were told in January to take it to the European Club Association but have raised the issue again - but wer not represented)
- FIFA looking to "hurt" English sides (raised by The FA who were not there represented - nor were FIFA)
- Application for a new member to replace a member who has failed to attend for two years (five meetings)
Open Discussions (this is the Breakaway issue) added by UEFA who want - FIFA present but the clubs were not interested in either attending)

18 sides were represented.

- New entrant rejected - departing side representative wanted more time.
- Young Player Transfers - The French side want the rules amended to stop any transfer and to effectively block all approaches until players are 18. It was agreed by those present (except three sides) that discussions should be held at UEFA level as different FAs have different rules - so it goes in the minutes and they go (redacted) to UEFA.
- The FA's request the damage that FIFA are doing to "hurt English clubs" was discussed at some length including the Chelsea ban and potential cases on the same grounds against other English sides (this includes Liverpool because of two players). The rest of the discussion is not for tehse pages.
There was then a discussion about the breakaway, the 2024 lock down and whether any alternate proposals would be acceptable; no conclusion or agreement. However, there was a paper produced to say the the UEFA plans to expand the CL would be scrapped.
- Everything else was of no relevance here.

Tax is of no relevance.}

Amazing answer. Can I ask who the 2 players relating to Liverpool are?

{Ed002's Note - Suso and a GK I don’t recall the name of - perhaps from Norway}

Ed. 002

Are Liverpool still blacklisted from this group?

Who are the current clubs in this elite group?

Finally, who's the new club trying to join?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not part of the group. There is no point in listing the sides who are involved.}
