Thought Gini had a great game last night.

He slightly frustrates me Drogie. He works very hard, is good positionally and works back very well. Gini can also keep the ball well in tight spaces but somehow he lacks a little confidence. He was one of the ones who would pass it 3 yards to Coutinho. Some of the goals he scorses are top class but he needs to improve his quality in the final third. I know for Holland he plays a different role.

When he gets around the opposition box and he has to link up with the front 3 it mostly breaks down, he takes too long. The Man U away, Everton away, he never crossed the halfway line. He is doing well but he will come under pressure from Ox and Keita.

Agree mate, though I do think he’s improved quite considerably, at one point he was totally anonymous I’m away games.

Spot on with the confidence thing.

That is very true he has improved and I never saw it coming. Last season I thought he wouldn't play much. All credit to him and hopefully still slight improvement to come.

for me he all ways looks better live at the ground than on tv. But I don't think with his quality he could do more going forward. The second leg away to city the other year in the champions league first half he was awful then straight away in the second half he drove straight through the midfield and was like a different players second half. I think I see ed001 say before about him the only thing he had against him when everybody thought ed did not rate him was he had seen how good he was and he was all ways playing within himself. But he was great last season. but he should score more goals without a doubt.

{Ed001's Note - spot on grino, that is what I said. I think there is still more to come from him, he has the ability to be talked about with the Silvas and De Bruyne, as well as workrate. He just needs to believe in himself more, as he has the lot.}

Mark personally I think you are giving him stick for what our other midfielders get defended for. In my opinion Wiji is one of our best midfielders and I believe over the last 3 seasons no other midfielder has played as many minutes as he has under Klopp so he cannot be doing that bad. After all Klopp doesn’t suffer fools in his teams.

I think the same goes for most of the players when you watch them live mate, both positive and negative.

The one that really sticks out for me is Hendo, he gets so much criticism but watch him live and you really get to see what a great player he is and his importance to the team
Agree re Gini BTW.

JK we are now talking about small margins and small improvements. If the midfield wants to be classed in the same bracket as our back 5 or front 3 then some improvement is needed. It may be harsh on Gini but feel he can improve and when OX or Keita get fully upto speed hopefully they will all push each other. No one thinks he is at Silvas level but that should be his aim.

I have watched Gini play several times for Holland and tonnes for LFC and the fact that he is able to play diff. roles effectively, is a testament to his immense talent and ability, IMO. For Holland, he is given the license that allows him to get forward and score goals. Can he do more on this front for LFC? Of course, he can cos clearly the ability is there. Is he allowed to do that in a Klopp system? I don't think so.

Therefore to me, Gini is a brilliant footballer and midfielder cos he is effective in almost any midfield role (can also play the 6). This is why I agree with the Ed01 when he said at one time that Gini was rated higher than Messi when they were youngsters. The guy is amazing and should start getting the credit his talent and ability (as Ed said, he has the lot) deserves.

I think gini is quality and he's playing with strict instructions in our midfield. He gets criticism for not getting forward enough or going missing but he's just playing a role with discipline that doesn't allow him the same freedom his role with Holland does. He hit double figures pretty much every season before us simply because he was played in attacking roles. If he isn't operating in his midfield role properly for us then Robertson or Trent don't benefit for example.

A true reflection of his quality is that he's played FB, CB, DM, CM, AM, on the wing and central forward. He's clearly very important for klopp as he's been a regular for 3 years now. Look at players like Saul Niguez, thiago, dembele previously for spurs, versatile players who don't rack up numbers for goals or assists but can read a game and influence the play off the ball. Easy to miss his influence unless you actually watch him closely as much of his good work takes place away from the action.
