Question, is Ashley Barnes the footballer who actually does the least footballing of all footballers?

He seems to just spend the full 90minutes looking for people to wrestle and somewhere to plant his elbows.

{Ed001's Note - and repeatedly dive. He is quite possibly the worst offender for diving in the Prem, it just goes unnoticed as he does it outside of the box.}

Yea but with very limited talent he has more pl goals in 2019 than Firmino or Salah. Must be doing something right, give the guy some credit instead of knocking all the time. All footballers are not Messi.

He’s weird he gives it hard then goes down easily when it’s given back, glad people see it now. He’s got ability I think mind, can hit a good volley.

Actually think Barnes is a decent player. Better than he often comes across. I suspect either team tactics or direct instruction dictate some of the negative aspects of his game. I don’t really buy into the whole being overly physical is what makes him the player he is. If anything it could be holding him back. Definitely better than wood alongside him.

Cheers.

Speaking of other strikers. Vardy looks like he is rolling back the years. Was top class against Bournemouth today.

Ed is spot on about the flimsy way he goes down, but Barnes is otherwise a really good player.
He will be far from the last good striker to be COMPLETELY silenced by Van Dijk. I’d imagine another 30 strikers will feel what that is like just this season.
Insane, insane, insane player.

Totally agree re Vardy, BR setting up the team to play to his strengths. Cracking first goal.

Think Aguero needs a mention too, he was brilliant for City yesterday.

I totally disagree RE Ashley Barnes. There's a real quality player in there and he'll no doubt outgrow Burnley.

As to how he works physically. No-one ever said that Diego Costa wasn't good on the football side, did they? I think Barnes has a similar mindset to Costa. Obviously mentioning Ashley Barnes and Diego Costa in the same sentence will raise some eyebrows, but both share that grittiness and that's part of why he's the third highest scorer in the premier league this calendar year.

If you put Ashley Barnes in a top side and built the attack around him - like how Chelsea did with Costa, he'd bag a sackload of goals.

Epic, Barnes is not even in the same solar system as Costa. I mean, are you serious. Who took over for the brilliant Radamel Falcao when he left and took his goals with him? Costa. Whose goals led Athletico Madrid to the La Liga title and CL final in 13/ 14? Costa and ou are comparing him with Ashley Barnes?

Fact of the matter is that Costa is a beast of a footballer with massive striker instincts and IMO, comparing a super star like him to a donkey like Barnes is an insult to Costa's talents and achievements both at Chelsea and Athletico Madrid. IMO, Barnes is at Burnley for a reason. He is at that level, nothing more and nothing less.
