Evening reds n eds.

Finding that mufc supporter at work after we have beaten them, priceless.

Down the pub with my mates talking about how we beat Arsenal, love it.

Any time we beat Man city, ACE

There a common theme here that would not exist if we were playing Ac milan or PSG or Bayern in a crappy european super league.

Its deep rooted and soooo much more important to me. Yes its amazing winning the Champions league but what do we all want more than anything. Getting the 19th, 20th, 21st title etc.

I will always follow LFC as i have done for over 45 yrs but if we enter into any proposed super league we run the risk of diluting our. ferver as supporters. It just won't be the same.

You have been warned.

There, that's better now i have that of my chest.

Lfc to win 2 - 1 in tight match

Have a great week end all.

{Ed025's Note - you too wiltshire mate..

I agree 100% wiltshire, if/ when it happens for me something will be lost. As ed025 has said what about the lower league clubs who are already struggling. The premier league is so good we don't need it but because the pl generate much more than the rest they want to change everything.

If you play Real, Barcelona 3 times every year after a few years it will become just another game. If you take the top 4 out of the pl the income will plumet. If they keep the pl as is and sacrifice the cups that would be the best worst option. No good can come of it IMO.

{Ed025's Note - im with you mark..

Its a shame but money talks. They won't listen to us.

I wonder what the majority of fans would want if given the choice?

ill just have to watch Swindon instead. Or play more golf. But as you say mark, the teams in the lower leagues might not be there in 10 yrs time.

ho- hum.

I think the problem is tv revenue. If we get a breakaway super league that will in itself be where the vast majority of where the money goes. But we have Sky, BT, Amazon etc that will keep feeding the monster. Sport orientated media coverage is probably the safest way to invest your money at the moment. And before I get pillared for this please for second take a moment. When I first got Sky and Bt got the CL rights I swore I would not sign up to BT. Guess what?

I can afford it thankfully but would prefer not to and I know there are so many supporters that can’t. If we have a break away league that is broadcast by another media mogul would I sign up to it if Liverpool FC were participating? probably as it is the only way I can watch my beloved Reds. I hate the fact that so many fans of “elite” clubs will be unable to follow their clubs on tv due to ludicrous subscriptions. The rich get richer. If LFC are not part of a breakaway league many will feel hard done by. If they are part of it, many will feel hard done by.
YNWA.

The option remains to walk across the park and watch a side not in the European Super league.

Seriously though- it will be the death-knell for a lot of lower division clubs- and to be honest I’d worry for some prem clubs too as the Broadcast income would plummet.

I think a super league would be dissapointing and eventually lead to decline of football teams and fanbases. It would work for a while but will slowly die as people see once great teams get beaten on a weekly basis because someone has to lose. I like how it is where you have to earn the right to face the best teams in europe. They should just revamp the champions league, too many poor teams are allowed in while there are clearly better teams excluded. I say make the group stages much more competitive.

Is this potential super league actually realistically a strong possibility or seen as highly unlikely?

It would destroy everything that remains good in the game, football is already being damaged year after year with money continually creating more and more of a gulf. Club's losing their identities and larger business oriented focus taking control.

The thought of a super league makes me sick, would only ever benefit the multi millionaires who's only care is to expand the brand and market the club for extra profit. No self respecting football club should ever consider this as a good move without giving a huge slap to the face of the fans. The likes of red bull formed clubs, Chinese and American recently grown franchises can be the only real fit. Every single club should have enough pride or history to block the idea of simply throwing it all away for the financial gain of businessman who don't give a toss about football.

Another old skool perspective.

Football was ruined when Murdoch got his hands on the game in 92, or for those who don’t know, the birth of the Premier League.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that drogie mate..

25 mate, Merseyside ruled in the 80’s.

{Ed025's Note - we really did drogie and the city was buzzing, it would be nice to replicate those times mate..

a ticket to watch the Burnley away game is like gold dust. Can you imagine Madrid away, not a chance in hell.

11.) 31 Aug 2019
31 Aug 2019 06:12:32
Im no expert but id guess that, if the best 6-8 PL teams went to play in a Euro Super League, there would be a hell of a lot of supporters who wouldn't be able to watch live footy as the tickets and travel would be extortionate and like gold dust to obtain.
That would leave an enormous bunch of fans who still want to go to a game and watch live football so maybe the lower league teams would start getting higher attendances? Maybe Tranmere and Southport could grow from larger home support and revenue along with their leagues? Maybe there would be room for a new team from Liverpool?

{Ed025's Note - it wont be 6-8 virgil, more 3-4, away games will be for the elite as the normal guy in the street wont be able to afford to fly all over europe for the season, i think it will be a disaster for everyone bar the chosen few mate..

Maybe the big 4 going off to the ESL would drive some of us back to watching our local sides, maybe that extra revenue would save a few Bury and Boltons.

31 Aug 2019 08:46:31
If a European league was formed then surely the premier league Sky / BT money would drop significantly due to them having their heads turned and investing their money in that. The Bolton and Burnley’s would be then happening in the premier league.

{Ed025's Note - i think you mean bury but your right JK..

The people behind this underestimate, as usual, the appetite of fans for local rivalries and Saturday afternoon football. This will be the absolute downfall of this concept. Thankfully, it will also be the first time that fans realize thir true power - without them, professional sport does not exist.

I haven't met a liverpool fan who is keen on the idea of a breakaway league. Totally agree. When will we play everton again? The fixture i always look for first. And (not joking) will we get to play utd? They certainly aren't an elite team anymore. Does money and history get them in it?
