To those of us (fans, rival fans and pundits alike) who always seem to want to knock the Champions of Europe with the "we weren't at our best" stuff whenever they don't score enough goals or dazzle the gallery enough to please you, Herr Jurgen Norbert Klopp has a message for you.

"We are not DisneyLand. We do not have to excite every one, in every second".

Last season was a clear example of this. Not always exciting or explosive but so often did enough and grafted to win games, late winners, 1 goal victories, clean sheets, they all were the reason for 97 points and Euro glory, . If it leads to success I'm more than happy to win without style.

2-0 against spurs in Madrid wasn't pretty but it's our No.6 is all that mattered.

That 2:0 game in Madrid was beautiful.

The result was the only thing that mattered that night.

Finals are rarely great games.

We had Istanbul but the Wembley (second) Rome and Paris finals were not fantastic to watch but getting the trophy each time meant everything.

Think LFC has got a taste for silverware now.

Let’s go get some more!

Yeah Tommy the wins matter more than anything. The Rodgers team of 13/ 14 we're dubbed as the best around for constant attacking exciting football but conceding 50 goals was the reason that team wouldn't win anything.

Our early years under klopp was also explosive and unpredictable but that results in losing a 3 goal lead against Sevilla, letting teams like Bournemouth make big comebacks and clean sheets a rarity. Roma nearly overturning a tie which we led 6-2 at one point. EL final 1 up at HT and cruising lost 3-1.

Last season saw a change in that we could win "ugly" and the rewards of that gritty winning mentality was huge in terms of its results. We as fans should never use this style as a reason of criticism as long as it gives us sustained results despite many of us longing to blow teams away every game. That approach brings too many risks of failure so fans sometimes need to hide frustration and nerves in sight of the bigger picture of clear improved results. I for one love watching us managing a game with control as much as I enjoy watching us blow teams off the pitch.

"we weren't at our best" stuff whenever they don't score enough
==============================
If someone says that . to me this is a compliment and not "knock ing the Champions of Europe" . I think many of us fans need to shake off the victim mentality and move on from the past .

Roy I think you've taken his post slightly out of context. It was more in reference I feel to a certain percentage of us fans who get slightly critical when we don't score freely instead of giving praise on the occasions we excellently carry out a successful game management in exchange.

After Norwich I heard many moans that after being 4 nil up at HT we actually lost the 2nd half 1 nil. People were quicker to fault the lack of urgency in the 2nd half and ignore the praise for the fact we finished them off after 40 minutes and then coasted through the rest of the game without need to burn out energy or take risks in the tackle.

When people label us as "not performing at our best" based only on attacking flow and no other aspect of our play it can be frustrating to hear. Start of last season we hardly let in a goal, general feeling of fans was that we weren't playing good enough, people were ignoring the superb defence and control that won us those games and only focused on reduced number of goals scored.

Its a very fair point Har . understand and totally agree . we can score 6 against Barcelona and someone (our own) will still find something to criticise.
For someone who been waiting for 30 years, any win is a beautiful win.

And as you said, sometimes you can look at it as a compliment the fact we've raised our standard to such a high level we can easily get used to such top performances that any drop off will be scrutinised. We just need that league to let us settle down and remove the constant anxiety haha it's coming soon.

Theres a case for saying ‘we could have scored more’ in every game we play and there's a certain element, even among our own fans, who are never content with a performance.
As a wise man once said ‘points make prizes, what do points make? ’ and if there was a Brucie bonus available for entertainment we’d win that one too.

No team plays at the top of their game for every game all season. It's just not possible, especially when you are trying to win a major trophy for the first time in years. " Winning ugly" is an art and only regularly done by the very best teams. Finding a way to win, when you aren't at your best is like gold dust.

Spot on, Har_red92. Back then (the period you described), Liverpool was the only team I had ever seen that could score 3/ 4 goals and STILL, you could not say for sure of we would win esp. after the Sevilla 3-3 debacle or the Spurs calamity. It seemed like no matter how many we scored, we would always concede.

I'm just happy we don't have to deal with any of that anymore. As for finals, I really don't care. A great final is only great when you win. We and Klopp esp., are in the best position to know having lost a tonne of finals and should never sneeze at the performance we put in in Madrid.

Klopp was clearly not interested in "exciting" the masses esp. those of the non-LFC persuasion. He was there to win the game by any means necessary and we did. And to those rival fans crying that we did not play well or entertain them, I have news for you: When your team makes a CL final, demand that they entertain you. That is not LFC's job to do.
