Question for Ed's 1. Has Klopp got a headache over the centre defence? Matip has been class. Does Gomez go straight back in? How will Klopp keep Matip happy if he s played so well but returns to the bench?

What's your take on it folks?

{Ed001's Note - it is not a headache, it is a great problem to have.}

Tough one redman84. The key to keeping them happy will be rotating appropriately and making use of the fact that Gomez can cover right back.

As to who starts I honestly have no idea. At his best Gomez is clearly the better defender so I'd be inclined to start him in order help rebuild his understanding with Van Dijk, but its difficult to look past Matip's form.

I agree with Ed001.

It’s a great problem to have, there are so many games, we need quality in the rotation strategy.

I think it’s brilliant.

I think I’m with you eamonsf! Defensive partnerships need to be consistent to be at there best. I suppose it just shows how cruel the game can be sometimes for players in Matip’s situation. Plays out of his skin, does a great job but it still won’t be enough : (.

Gomez is the way to go as his recovery speed is top notch. He and VVD are the dream centre back pair.

Wouldn’t swap that pairing for anyone else in Europe.

Imagine if Klopp signed Pepe and had to keep him happy with Salah, Firmino and Mane already nailed down in the 1st team.

Now that would be one hell of a constant headache which Pepe probably would not have been keen on or otherwise just leave Salah on the bench, let Pepe take his place.

Pretty much the same situation with Matip and Gomez.

There will be plenty games for both. Although we don't like it Gomez will also play games at rb so both could well play together.

Little bit different Maxlfc, as Pepe would likely have only arrived based on the expectation that he'd be a guaranteed starter. Meanwhile Matip came in as a starter and then found himself way down the pecking order as others progressed or arrived. He then got lucky with injuries and made the most of the opportunity (fair play to the lad) .

But hypothetically if the Pepe transfer had happened, yes mate that would have been another great headache (assuming no one acted up in response) .

Matip starts for me. Deservedly so too. Gomez will have be content with sub and cup games and to wait like matip did.

Gomez for me, he's got pace and reads the game well, Matip still makes me nervous.

taao1 if Matip still makes you nervous then that is soley down to you cos for the majority of the LFC fans, he has been immense for the past 3 months and has not lost a step judging by the solid perf. he had last Sunday vs City.
As for who starts, of course it is a good problem to have. I mean how many clubs do you know that have three elite CB and one very good one in Lovs, to pick from. Some clubs can't even get two good ones to play together.

Look at City for example. People say they have a tonne of depth. Not at CB they don't. Laporte is a top talent. After that, Stones and Otamendi are complete disasters waiting to happen and they had better hope Laporte can play all season and not get injured (which he is now) cos they will struggle mightily if those two clowns have to go through majority of the season.

Well said RedWolf, City's lack of cover at Centreback is rarely talked about. Never mind the fact the fact that Mendy is never fit and Zinchenko is awful (Not in general, just out of position at left back) .
