Regarding Origi, had a look at his appearances this past season.

21 appearances in all competitions last season but only featured 673 minutes on the pitch for the 1st team.

His return of 7 goals in 673 minutes not bad at all ain't it?

Add Brewster who looks very likely to be part of the 1st team setup and sure he can get some goals too if and when he plays.

Sturridge hardly played last season so his absence this coming season not going to hurt us.

Mane probably will not be avaible for the Charity shield but should be back for the the EPL opener vs Norwich.

Just goes to show how difficult it will be for a new addition of a versatile forward to get minutes on the pitch if we had to sign one. Also the reason why the club not going to spend a record amount singing another forward.

More minutes on the pitch could see more goals from the likes of Origi when he is required.

If we do sign another forward then clearly it will only be as backup. We cannot go blow a massive amount on someone who is going to expect to start and tell him he will have to wait should Mane, Firmino and Salah not be available.

Probably why we have not signed any forwards yet as Ed001 and Ed002 have explained that majority of the players we approached will only join if they are guaranteed to start.

Which now suggests that maybe the asking price for Cornet, who we have shown interest in could just see us stick with what we have and then relook at the situation in January should we have a better idea whether the likes of Salah will be leaving end of the season then we can sign replacements accordingly.

We can sit here and say what 'if' anyone gets injured. We are not going through a phase where we are rebuilding our squad so makes sense to me to only replace players according to their 1st team status and only if they leave.

Liverpool have shown with the front three they are bang average and have no clue how to score goals
Or that they are not really set up well without the front 3
I see no harm whatsoever to add a wing/ forward
In the squad
And klopp will be to blame and you will see the excuses come out in interviews when it’s clear the league is a lot stronger this time as it is every season

Regressed!

Playing devils advocate, while Origi was very effective at left wing last season, he’s going to be our main backup at striker this season, meaning we won’t have many rotation options out wide for cup games or when things get hectic. This could be a problem especially when Mane and Salah are coming off very long seasons, and we will need to rotate them or could run out of steam.

I hope we still go for a top wide man to provide roatation/ competition for Mane and Salah and to keep the squad in fighting fit shape during a long season.

If one isn't available then no point in spending for someone who’s not a perfect fit as we still have Shaqiri or Ox, but I’d rather have a like for like pacy wide forward if we can find one and use those two in midfield.

I think Max is spot on . we didn't do any business this summer because the right deal did n't come up. We all would've like some re-enforcement even those within the club . but it did n't happen .
I think we can afford a couple of injuries to our forward line up, even if its Mane and Salah at the same time, I think with OX, Shaq, Origi and Brew, Klopp can put a formation to cater for Mane and Salah's loss . In reality there is only 2 injuries that will have determental effect . injury to VVD or Allison . but what do you do, go and spend 50m plus on a goalkeeper or defender just for cover . don't think so.

Roy I believe if we lose Mane and Salah for any length of time and we will struggle, big time. I like Origi and Brewster is an unknown quantity in the PL arena but I would be worried to rely on them solely for our goals over a sustained period of time.

We also have Ox, we have Shaq, we have Lallana. I bet even Trent could step up if needed. You can't just keep adding and bloat your squad, players need to leave too. That's proper asset management. If something catastrophic happens, we have the January window. I'm open to seeing if we can buck the trend of buy, buy, buy. I'd love to see more success stories like Gomez and Trent, coming up through the youth ranks. If anyone can coach a young player and mold them into a superstar its Klopp.

Brewster could just be the surprise package this season.

He has the right attitude to make it, has the ability to improve and he is not a one trick pony.

Yes the step up at his age either will break or make him but once again will come down to his attitude.

I know what you mean Rover . Its all hypothetical and all depends who we playing against during a period where Mane and Salah are both injured . I am just hoping if that happens Klopp have an answer with whom he has left . you know tinker the system and formation to get the best out of the players available to him .

12.) 31 Jul 2019
31 Jul 2019 13:28:17
red lobster . I think you had a typo in your first post and hence getting the abuse you getting . I am sure your meant to say:

Liverpool have shown "WITHOUT" the front three they are bang average and have no clue how to score goals

Which is still a bit harsh but not far wrong (in my opinion)

{Ed0333's Note - City without De Bruyne, silva and Sterling would be average, Spurs without Kane, Ericsson and Alderweld would be average, Chelsea without Kepa, Hazard and Kante would be average. Taking 3 of you’re best players out of any team would dilute their arsenal.

I still expect us to sign someone. Maybe one of Cornet, Kamano or Wamangituka. We've had all three watched and none of them would break the bank.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we didn't though. I just think we'll get one of them last minute. Just because we've had our transfer business done early in the past doesn't mean that we'll always operate that way.

{Ed0333's Note - interesting. Where did you hear about we’ve had Kamano and Wamangituka watched mate? I’m just asking as I think the latter is a Klopp kind of player as he works his balls off.

Max you are really going to upset Waro this time haha!

I agree though mate. Kent and Woodburn have been dropped from the pre-season team to find loand/ sales but Wilson has been kept involved and looks like he might stay so he's possibly shown Klopp enough to stick and not twist. Cornet is a good option in my opinion, but you can't justify it unless Wilson leaves. They're both 22 year old forwards who can play on either wing or in attacking midfield so it only ever made sense if Wilson left. Maybe he still will and Cornet will happen but the longer it goes on, the more I start to believe we won't do any major business. Van Den Berg, Elliott and Lonergan may well be it and I can't say that worries me. I understand why others see it differently bit I think we have the squad to win multiple honours this season.

{Ed0333's Note - Has Lonergan been offered a playing contract?

Red Lobster you say Klopp will be to blame but is it really Klopps decision not to sign anyone? Are you sure that we haven't tried to sign people but nobody wants to sit on the bench most of the time? Bit harsh your post is.

31 Jul 2019 15:00:57
forgive me if my memory isn't serving me correctly, but isn't Red Lobster a Man United fan?

He's just putting a rival team down how he sees it. Don't let him wind you up.

I think Origi's lack of minutes actually shows how much faith Klopp has / had in the bench last season. If you have a better player on the bench you look to bring them on far earlier than you would for a last throw of the dice player. Origi started performing towards the end of the season so there's no doubts that's where the biggest percentage of those minutes would have come from.

Ed0333, I'm not sure where I read it. I waste so much time reading football articles it could be anywhere. I've also seen him mentioned on here in an Ed reply that he could be an option.

Of the three it is Wamangituka that I'd also prefer. I think he'd be a cracking player for us and very different to what we already have.

{Ed0333's Note - thanks mate I appreciate the feedback. I’d not seen the link with Wama. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. But if nothing happens let’s not get too despondent we still have a fierce squad.

Depends which way you look at it. On one hand, this squad are the European Champions they will get even better another year on. On the other hand, everyone has bought players around us in the league, and the other top team in Europe have strengthened when we've stood still.
We'll probably know who was right after 10/ 12 games mate. c'mon you red men!
