Good day,

As the transfer window has been rather quiet, the enjoyment comes from the Eds’ personal opinions which seem the more realistic. With Lazaro joining Inter, who does Ed002 think would now be a viable option to push Trent for the RB spot? Maybe even an option for both flanks? Anyway hope all is well!

Thank you,
Q.

{Ed002's Note - Lukas Klostermann is the pick of versatile defenders but like many others would not move to sit on the bench.}

Thanks Ed,

Wasn’t the talk abt a player who d compete with the fullbacks for a starting spot? If so it seems the youth are promising enough to sit on the bench. Do you have an idea of maybe a Millie type player for fullbacks who would be fine with being a sub?

Have a good one.

{Ed002's Note - No, sorry.}

Why would any team or squad want a player that's "happy to be a sub"?

It surprises me that we haven’t had more full backs linked to us. Seem to be linked with every midfield and wide player in the world but less so in defence. Obviously we have Gomez and Milner who have played there and maybe we are waiting on what Lewis and Larouci can show. I think Hoever will play right back when/ if he reaches first team level, with Gomez, Van Den Berg, Matip, Lovren all blocking his immediate path and no sign of moving any of them on this season, but he is so young right now. Perhaps he’ll play centre back when, in his own words, he’s hit the gym for a few years and Matip or Lovren moves away.

There also Kenny Lala who we’ve watched who does and has played both full back positions at about a ratio of 2:1 right back versus left back; he would also not move to sit on a bench. Will be interesting to see what happens. I think Clyne will stay and Milner will cover the other side personally.

Thats the trouble isn't it, finding good players who are willing to be a bit part player. Although any player deemed good enough for liverpool atm should have the self belief that they can make the first team. Probably unpopular and a bit selfish on my part but i don't see us picking up a second rb better than clyne. Infact clyne is good enough to be starting for a premier league team.

{Ed025's Note - if that premier league side is norwich you may be right robbie, he is awful mate..

I dunno ed025. He was a liability a few years ago. But one thing I've learned this last 3/ 4 years is to trust klopp.

I wasn't sure when he signed the ox, same with robertson. I thought lallana had played his last liverpool game but actually played well when called upon. Klopp definitely improves players. Matip was subject to ridicule a year ago, now he is a champions league hero.

If he thinks clyne is good enough to challenge for a place then i will trust him. If not then I'll trust that too. There are a lot of players who have improved massively under klopp and co, why not NC?

{Ed025's Note - you have a point i suppose robbie, but i have to say i think hes a liability mate..just my opinion of course..

Spot on, Ed25. Klopp has been trying to get rid of Clyne since he got here and that is why he fast-tracked TAA into the first team as quickly as he did. Clyne also made matters way worse for himself by not just being a poor player, but having and "unprofessional lifestyle" which clearly, peeved Klopp off.

Clyne did not play a single game for LFC until the Utd game and no games after that so that only supports the thought that he is still done with him. Clyne playing preseason games mean nothing cos even Markovic was playing and scoring in preseason even tho we all know we wanted rid. If Klopp wants to keep Clyne then fine but to me, that ship never even made it to the docks to even sail out of it.

I feel the current market for FBs is terrible, that's why I'd only sign a RB or LB if smart value option is available. AWB 45 mil, trippier 22mil, mings 25mil, Tierney maybe 25. All the big PL clubs are in the market for FBs and the lack of quality currently has overpriced most players. I'd rather keep clyne for another year as Trent back up and let the young lads develop for a season playing u23s. Clyne is by no means great but for a back-up RB at 10-15 mil there aren't many superior alternatives. HG quota too if that even makes any difference currently.

I know it's also realistic that he wants to leave and also that klopp mightnt want him around. But we could do much worse than him as a back up I feel. Similar with mignolet as back up for another year. I know both would surely want to move though.
