Afternoon all.

Listening to Klopp after the Tranmere game last night it seems like we won't be buying too much this window, I think he will see just how good his youngsters are in the preseason games and then decide if we need to sign someone or not, of course if Clyne, Lalana or anyone else is sold then that might change things a bit but I personally don't think we are going to spend big at all unless a player that Klopp wants becomes available that is going to improve the 1st 11 and there aren't that many out there that would take a place away from of 1st choice starting 11! What do my fellow reds think about our transfer window so far and do u expect us to buy someone big I don't and I don't think it will be the end of the world if we don't . We have a great bunch of lads who would die for each other on the pitch there is great understanding and togetherness within that group and it has to be someone who will fit in with our traditions, work ethics and overstyle of play to be of any consideration. Times are good lads there's some bright young talent coming through maybe its time for those boys to shine and stake a place in the squad they all know what Liverpool FC is all about and if they are good enough well then there's no need to look else where and spend a packet! 😉

All the best fellow reds have a great weekend .

Why is it okay for City to have 2 players for every position, but when We talk about a player it's "who's he replacing"?
🤔 Competition is great in my eyes.

{Ed001's Note - City do not have 2 players for every position and are struggling to keep players happy that are on the fringes.}

I said on here a few weeks ago Hoever should be right back cover and that Larouci was the most talented left back in the academy. We should let those two have at it. They won't improve on loan at Gent, Derby or Mouscron. Get them around the first team training with top players and covering injuries and cups. Robbo and Arnold will play most games anyway and Milner/ Gomez can cover in a crisis.

We don't need to spend big. I was keen on a versatile forward before seeing how much Brewster and Duncan have bulked up. The talent is there but I was worried whether they'd cope physically. That doesn't look like it will be an issue though. Maybe we should back the academy to supplement an already superb 15-20 senior players. Otherwise we'll end up losing Duncan and Brewster to teams like Dortmund who will back them!

I'd still like an attacking midfielder for the starting XI if possible but even that really hinges on how well Ox has recovered. If he's 100% fit come August, we are literally ready to fight on all fronts again without signing anyone.

This same topic is getting boring and boring.

Same points, same arguments, different posts.

It's extremely clear there are two different opinions on this, maybe it's time to give it a rest?

I stopped reading after the opening sentence.
And LiverpoolFC8 must just be working in the Russian troll factory.

Some of you need to learn to read before just letting those 'thoughts' that you seem to think are epiphanies dribble out of your ears onto the keyboard.

Very promising start by Duncan and Brewster to be sure but too early to anoint either the answer at the forward spots, let's see as the competition gets tougher if they still look like they belong.

It doesn't matter what anyone says or doesn't say, if you don't bring in at least one top draw fresh face then your on the back foot before a ball has been kicked. I'd of looked at the logistics of a deal for (de ligt) as an example, could of freed up Trent to play in midfield and put Joe Gomez at right back, probably silly money so we had no dealings with his agent but that's the type of scenario that can only improve your squad surely, I'm astounded that people think we can beat an even better man city team to the title with the same team that couldn't do it last season. How hard is that to grasp.

Play Gomez out of position to accommodate a younger centre half who isn't better than him (or even as good as Gomez dependant on opinion? ) .
All just so we can have one big money signing?
Now that's astounding.

How’s about improving the players that we already have Waro? It’s not that hard to figure out really is it.

I have to agree with you to a degree Waro, not only did city win the league but had the squad depth to win two domestic cups too.

Now I know they did have some pretty low key opposition during the knock out stages but still, they had the squad depth to do so.

We were very lucky with injuries last season and I still feel if Virgil gets injured we might not be so solid at the back. Back in the 80’s we always had two strong centre half’s, United did in the 90’s.

Waro, could you not argue that our best players players are young and improving, whilst City's spine is aging and deteriorating?

Alisson was in his first season and got better and better as it went on. Trent, Gomez, Robbo, Fabinho, Keita and Origi are all under 25. Salah, Firmino, Mane, Virgil, Wijnaldum and Henderson are all coming into that 28-32 prime years. Ox and Brewster are back from injury. To say we won't improve by simply consolidating is a bit harsh on Klopp as a coach, and also our players as individuals with a desire to learn and win more.

Meanwhile City have lost their captain and leader in Kompany. Silva, Fernandinho and Aguero are all struggling more and more with injury. Sane, Mahrez and Jesus are all being difficult over lack of game time. No doubt Sterling, Silva, Laporte, Mendy and Rodrygo are all stellar players who should continue to improve. But can they cope as the spine of the team wilts? Who can say for sure.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to assume City are on the edge of needing a overhaul and our squad is on the edge of hitting its prime. Having said that, I would like a world class attacking midfielder to replace Shaqiri and/ or Lallana. I'm not going to be that bothered if it doesn't happen either though.

My point of de ligt was purely as an example of how one class signing can dramatically enhance your squad, Gomez could rotate between CB and RB giving players the rest needed to stay fresh over a long season, extra long in our case with the extra games we have i. e. de ligt and vvd Gomez and de ligt Gomez and vvd moving Trent to midfield to rotate the midfield and allow them some rest Trent moving back to RB when Gomez is rotating at CB, all of those options on the back of one class signing is the point. I'll also reiterate what I said a while back, the greatest ever manager Sir Bob Paisley brought in at least two players a season on the back of winning leagues and European cups, that strategy used by the greatest ever manager is good enough for me.

Liverpool were getting better as the season went on. I don't see any reason why that should change just because we haven't spent 60/ 70 mil on players.

14.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:17:37
Waro I get your point. I don't necessarily agree but it's not an unreasonable argument. There is a strong argument that with KDB possibly fit all year City could be as good as they were the season before last when they hit 100 points. I'm just openly confident that our players are improving individually and as a unit at a more rapid rate. If Klopp decides he doesn't need or want to spend like he keeps implying, I'm not going to doubt him. He seems really confident in Brewster, Chamberlain and Gomez. He keeps describing them as like new signings. Time will tell I guess.

15.) 13 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 23:04:33
De Ligt is not even better than Gomez when both are fit so bringing him up is a false argument. Also we are not City and cannot donwhat they do. Ed02 has said repeatedly that City have mass issues keeping players happy who are not playing YET many on here still drone on about City having two players for each position Which they actually don't. They don't even have cover for RB. We are not City and will never be them so we will never do what they do so people need to get over that.

The fact of the matter is that cos Klopp did not say what many wanted to hear suddenly means that we are signing nobody this season, is just laughable. We all know Klopp doesn't say what we want to hear always, means nothing is being done. I mean, people did not know Fabinho was signing yet there he was. If you are thinking Klopp will tell you what you want to here then good luck with that. Just don't moan about the things he says that don't please you.

16.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 00:47:26
I still think we will get someone in like Firpo who can cover both LB and LW positions for Robbo and Mane. Klopp seems to trust his forward options with Origi getting a new contract and Brewster seen as a generational talent.

17.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 08:00:48
I do kinda agree with Waro here.

A full back to challenge both of ours - Firpo maybe? A and a versatile attacker who can challenge the front 3 and provide a no 10 option - Fekir or Pepe (albeit he’s less of no 10).

Then just youth like Sepp and Elliot and others is fine.

18.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 13:26:14
Redwolf, you're passing off your opinion on two players as fact to nullify my point, where are your facts to back up your sweeping assertion that Gomez is better than de ligt? I love Joe Gomez fantastic player but I couldn't say he's definitely better than de ligt, I hope he turns out to be and takes vvd's mantle when he's coming to the end of his career. You seem quite angry that the peasants are daring to question jurgens judgment, as humans everyone of us is fallible. If it's definitely down to the manager not wanting any players then that's fine and if it goes wrong it will be solely his mistake and will have nothing to do with FSG, that's if it is totally his decision.

19.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 17:26:50
Waro it's a bit hypocritical of you to see you are allowed to question Jurgen Klopp's judgement when yesterday you told me I couldn't question Steve Nicol's judgement. that's Klopp, the manager who's won league titles and Champions league in Europe, and Nicol who barely cut it in the US Soccer leagues.

20.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 22:14:45
I'm not questioning jurgens judgment at all, I was subtly questioning the owners.

21.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 21:47:13
Waro, the fact that you think Stevie Nicol's judgement is worth considering, is just bonckers BUT I digress. So to answer your question, who's angry about Klopp being questioned? You are aware that I have questioned Klopp several times and still do? As for De Ligt, I gave an opinion just as you have given yours.

I have seen him play and he is not that good cos he is being carried by VVD (even I would look good next to him) with the Dutch team and IMO, he is overrated cos he is never challenged in the Dutch League. He is as overrated as heck. The guy wants 400k a week reportedly. So he should now be earning double of what VVD is on? Rubbish. The guy is not good enough.
