I keep seeing people asking for a Sturridge replacement, yes he was involved in 18 games but he only scored 2 and assisted 1. I would argue that he doesn't bring what we need from a striker either. If origi can carry on like he has with his important goals and Brewster is anywhere near the player we are lead to believe and contributes a few goals here and there while building his experience, I really don't see why we need a sturridge replacement. As much as I loved watching him in his pomp, I really feel we have gotten rid a player who isn't at the level we need anymore (unfairly due to injuries)

Also he only started four of those eighteen games, playing a total of 500 min this season. That's less than 6 full games.

He scored a cracker against Chelsea, but he was hardly the most effective impact sub and Origi rightfully overtook him. Brewster is a fine replacement.

Why are we replacing players who DON'T play? Makes no sense to me, personally.

Sturridge did play, as the OP said, he was involved in 18 games. It's not that hard to understand.

Saying he was involved in 18 games is a little far fetched, he barely broke into a brisk walk for the vast majority of the time he played, that’s not being involved. His place can be taken by a kid.

27 appearances. 818 minutes. 4 goals. 2 assists.

Question if his contribution was enough to justify his wage/ place if you want but at least post the truth rather than falsified or twisted stats to suit your argument. One of those goals helped us beat PSG. Had it ended 2-2 we'd have gone out the group and Hendo wouldn't have lifted number 6.

Don't discredit or ignore his contribution to make a cheap point in a transfer debate. It's classless.

Yeah a few games he came on for the last minute. There was a game where he was standing on the sideline (backwards of course) and the whistle went before he even stepped on the pitch

He had so much promise, its unreal how his career has panned out. And he got 3 not 2. And they were massive goals, 2 of them anyway. The opening goal against psg. You look at how we only just got out of the group. Had psg got a draw we wouldn't have won the 6th. But DS scored early, just like klopp wants and us fans of course.
And that worldie against chelsea was one of the best strikes of the season. We were unbeaten at the time. In fact i think we had won every game, but don't quote me on that. It was a massive goal for us.

Hes off, dunno where, probably china. But take a minute to remember some of the wonder goals he scored, he scored some absolute worldies.

I wasn't trying to discredit his contribution or take away from the player he was. I said I loved watching him in his pomp, it was a pleasure to see him and Suarez together. I was saying that his time had come to an end with us in my opinion, as he can't offer what we need from a striker, he just can't work hard enough for the team. I don't necessarily think we need a replacement as some people have said. No one will want to come and sit on the bench, let's give youth chance, it's nice seeing a youngster establish himself in the first team.

No worries montstar. It wasn't aimed directly at your post anyway. More a pre-emptove strike to be honest. The thread just looked to be deviating down the path of 'Sturridge doesn't need replacing because he offered nothing anyway'.

I actually agree with you that Brewster should take his place. It's still a gamble though. Would Brewster have scored key goals against Chelsea and PSG? I hope we'll find out just how good he is this year. We should definitely recognise that Brewster is coming in to fill big boots though. Sturridge may have been on his last legs and no longer justifying his wages, but he still had a touch of class in big moments.

Good post plain bread summed it up perfectly.

Brewster has big boots to fill and it is a gamble. But, like it wasnt a gamble with Sturridge. West Brom took a gamble on him, lasted less than 90 minutes. West Brom were relegated (tbf they were in big trouble by jan 1st, not saying they got relegated because of of DS. But if anything could have saved them, a fully fit Sturridge firing on all cylinders could've)

No hard feelings monstar, its a site for debate eh, that's what makes it so interesting. I was a massive sturridge fan, had a magic left foot, scoring outrageous goals. I suppose the word "was" says it all.

Brewster is going to be more dynamic at least. Im looking forward to seeing what i can do.

No hard feelings at all, like you said it's for debates, just wanted to be more clear on my OP.

Roll on the 9th of August!
