The more I think about our current squad and the continuing calls from supporters to sign players the more I think we just don't need anyone.

Everyone begs for another stacking player even though our front 3 are untouchable and the back ups are Origi Brewster Shaqiri Lallana Ox and even Keita who hardly played last season due to injury's.

Our squad is full, apart from full back cover and even then we have Milner Gomez and few youngsters to cover.

So imo we are in a situation were with any more additions we would have to many players! Unless some leave which is looking unlikely now given just 4 weeks left of the window.

Any thoughts?

4 weeks is plenty of time. Cover at fullback would be helpful, though the club may see Gomez and Milner as enough. A player who could challenge any of the first team would be a fun addition, but its not that big a deal if one doesn't arrive. In the last few seasons the club has spent wisely and I'd rather that continue rather than buying for the sake of it.

Looking forwards to seeing what the Ox and Brewster can bring to the squad after their injuries and how Keita continues to adapt. Hoping for progress across the team, specifically with youngsters like Trent (Baffles me that he's still 20).

Always look at improving imo, the second you think you are complete or want to just add bench players to supplement the first 11, that's when it all falls apart. Players fighting for the first 11 spots brings the best out of them.

By the same token don't just spend for spending sake, adding a player just so the fans feel like there is investment isn't worth it.

I'm sure Klopp and co are looking at where they can improve the squad. Whether the opportunity is there or not is another story.
Not knowing anything at all, I would say it'd be incredibly naive to think we can head into the new season with the same squad and assume these guys will deliver the same or better as well as match the emotion. That is a lot to ask of these guys and I think invariably they will need a chance to refresh throughout the season.

i agree
we cannot go into the new season with the same squad expecting the same level of intensity.
we HAVE to refresh the squad.
we HAVE to buy competition for the starting 11.
we cannot say that Gomez, OX, Lallana and so and so will be like new signings because they are not.
all 3 of these guys have missed large chunks of last season and will need time to get back to their best and i doubt Lallana will ever get back to his best.
Keita is struggling and God forbid if 1 of the front 3 are injured for 2 months.
we were in the position before and granted Kenny and Rodgers wasted it by investing in the wrong players but Klopp has shown that he can build a squad.

Cant believe its only 4 weeks away. Anyone else surprised how quick this window has seemed?

Its been said over and over. We don't need anyone. That said, with Sturridge and Moreno off the wage bill i do see us signing someone. I have no idea in which position. If it were me id look at a decent young lb and a playmaker type.

Thing is, where does the playmaker play? This team has just won the biggest trophy in club football. Our midfield were epic, may not have the passing range of pirlo, or the ticky tacky trickery of Silva but they work so hard. They dominated every team without playing dirty. They are hard but fair. All good on the ball, all excellent at keeping the ball under extreme pressure from the worlds best teams. They NEVER give up. 3 0 down to Barcelona! That semi was more incredible than istanbul.

We have two decent lbs in the u23s gallagher and Lewis. Maybe klopp thinks one of them is ready to step up. We know klopp is not scared to try out youngsters. I hate to say it but look at utd, when they dominated. They had so many good youngsters coming through. We have improved our academy massively, maybe it is going to continue paying dividends, and not just getting youngster ready to sell to Bournmouth etc but more TAAs, Brewsters.

Equally naive to think a new player will instantly improve the squad, could easily just mess with chemistry. There are no hard and fast rules with transfers and how teams improve.

I hope we get someone (Pepe would be a lot of fun despite every journalist and Ed saying there’s no firm interest) . I’m still confident if we don’t. Let’s see how it plays out.

Virgil I 2nd that, in all honesty there is no 1 I fancy outside our own. Defntly not a keeper, Center half, full back, mid or even a foward. Yes we need depth but is there anything better (not only in term of individual quality) but charector wise, collective impact and to style who is better suited for our team than our own?

Why do you think the team will not be able to match the intensity of last season? I don't get it.

Last season came off the back of the world cup and we had some big players who went deep into the tournament. Hendo didn't start for a while. Firmino was rested and sturridge played. Fabhino didn't start for ages, but our new stars are now bedded in. We only have one player in their 30s and that's milly. And the guy is a phenomenon, he won the lfc fitness test last summer. The boys are in their prime, its really difficult to even say what type of player do we need? The first 11 are brilliant and we have genuine class on the bench.

We have a similar situation with the Afcom i suppose, two of our best players will have played a lot of football.

Danny Sturridge may have liked the injury room but his left foot had some magic, you have to admit. (chelsea goal) Are Origi and Brewster enough cover?

Origi is a legend for his goals against Barcelona and Spurs but in my opinion he is way more effective coming off the bench, on the left wing, running against tired defenders. He can go missing when he starts. Its a tough one. Our front 3 are so special, all world class imo. I reckon maybe we want another striker. Mind you i thought that when Fowler made the first team and, well, we all know how brilliant he was. Fearless. Young players are. i've only seen brewster play once or twice, youth games so hard to judge how good he really is. If klopp trusts him then i do too.

k, first off let's not debate based on absolutes. It's just my hunch and admittedly I am being subjective about this. I just happen to think our style can be draining as emotionally as it us physical. Our style is kinda dependent in it. As Klopp said, our guys were mentality monsters! Is that sustainable? who knows but why do ya think Klopp pulled back a little this year? I love our squad, I'm just saying it needs a tinker. we all know we need depth in certain positions. If we can achieve that we'll be in a better position than doing nothing.

The Ed's have continuously repeated that the club is looking at cover at both FB positions, a versatile forward to give the front 3 an occasional blow and a no. 2 GK should Mingo leave. This is why people saying we may not need anyone makes NO sense at all. Why? Cos even the club is not that naive to think we don't need anyone.

IMO, I think people need to stop with this :We don't need anyone: stuff cos I seem to read a lot of that stuff on SM at the moment and it is not true. We NEED cover at the areas the Ed's have mentioned cos that hurt us in Jan and Feb when our whole right side of of defence was out and midfielders had to play there which in turn, lessened our ability to be flexible in midfield cos we lacked bodies there as a result.

Also, I ain't trying to hear that stuff about "Gomez and Milner can cover at FB" stuff. We need specialists as cover and not serviceable alternatives. Gomez, Fab, Milner and Hendo should be nowhere near FB roles if we want to compete at the highest level. Hence, I'm glad the club is looking t TRUE cover at these positions and hopefully, we will get them in soon.

Perhaps the players we want have been identified but are playing in the copa America and afcom.

Just a thought. I can't remember the last time we didn't sign a well rated player in the summer.

Red, i nearly always agree with your opinions mate. But gomez, milner, hendo, gini and fabhino can all play RB. The beauty of our team is its versatility. We're worried about mane and salah being tired. But we have Aoc, Shaq, Origi, lallana and Brewster who can all do a job in the forward positions.
I think Keita could do a job at LW.

Players like the ox, henderson, gini and milner are specialists. They can play in all areas of the pitch.
