After the CL final John Henry was interviewed and said how gutted he was that we didn't win the league. He then stated that further investment would be made to give us a better chance of the title this coming season.

I don't think buying a 17 year old, and rumours of around £20 million available for transfers would improve our chances very much.

Any thoughts guys?

It would be great to go splashing the cash.

Question is on what area.

We need left and right back. But as they won't play much options will be limited.

For me recruit from within in these areas. Motivation will not be an issue.

We have grucic and ox who can make an impact in midfield and ox out wide.
So midfield is fine.

Up front we look light.

We have Brewster and imo we maybe need a number 10 who can fill both roles.

So not really a lot needs to change.

We need 1 may be or 2 new players and that's it, unless someone leaves.

I would love zaha. But do we need him. Well no. But I prefer us to get him than say man Utd.

If Firmino gets an injury we will be stuffed.

So a number 10 should be the priority.

There's much more to come, not the end of the window is it? Be patient.

Matip - £0
Robbo - £8mil
Gomez - £4mil

Mo £32mil
Gini £30mil
Fab £30mil (or was it 40?)

Just pointing out that you don't need to spend a fortune to get top class players.

Shaqiri and Origi also had some match winning performances this season and they were signed very cheaply.

Do we really need to splash though? Buy for the future makes a bit sense with our current squad.

OP, John W. Henry does not run LFC. He just owns it hence, he just gave his opinion on how Klopp will be backed and investment will be made. Read that to mean that investment will be done IF Klopp wants it and ONLY if Klopp wants it so I would not read too much into what he said. Also, don't pay too much attention to pathetic rumors that Klopp will only have 20m to spend and all that crap. None of it is true. The same had been said about Arsenal having only 45m to spend YET they are fully in for Zaha who could cost well over that amount. It is nonsense, really.

As for who we will sign, I'm not in the bit bothered about it right now cos everyone is on vacay and the window does not end until 5-6 weeks from now. Our scouting team NEVER stop working (we had been tracking Naby since 2014, I read somewhere) and the Ed'1s have been saying that there is interest in several players and that they expect players to come in. Hence, I'm chill so I think you should be chill as well and enjoy the wonderful weather across Europe cos trust me, most of our players are.

I don’t think John W is head of our recruitment team. I think the Ed’s have made it clear time and again that if there is a player identified who Klopp wants, funds would be made available. So, unless John and Tom spend their weekends scouting the Dutch leagues, I doubt he’s their signing.

Regardless of whether FSG is going to splash the cash or not, the one thing I am sure of is that John Henry is not about to reveal his true thoughts to anyone beyond his brain trust at LFC. Everything else is just mumbo jumbo for social media consumption and PR purposes.

RedWolf I think you’re giving Klopp too much power there also.
To me it is much more of a structure, with various inputs.
This is one of the things I certainly do credit FSG for, in the past their inexperience has got the club burned.
Now, the process of recruitment seems more considered.
But the various staff and departments all seem to work well together, that is key.
No power struggles.

It is not about whether FSG want to splash the cash.

Liverpool FC need to fund money for transfers. FSG cannot keep on being LFC's cash cow otherwise the clubs debt will keep on growing.

The club will make singings but not on the magnitude of VVD and Allisson.

We need back ups not replacements for 1st team players unless the likes of Salah leaves.

If the club see value in the market they’ll buy. Which they’ve consistently done over the last few seasons. If not they won’t. The complaining from some fans is getting ridiculous, we just won the bloody champions league and it’s a young squad.
