Im very happy with the signing of van den berg. I haven't seen him play and considering he's only 17 his future could go either way.

The fact that he is pacy and good on the ball is nice to hear though and already with experience of first team games. For the price we've paid seems excellent investment and training with the likes of VVD daily will hopefully see him develop at a similar style to Gomez.

I can't help but think that this signing is related to Hoever. Ed01 had mentioned that there was a hint of attitude from Hoever because of the cameos, and maybe the club don't see Hoever in the future plans. Or maybe I'm making too much of it and they're building up a future partnership for both.

It was 007 (the poster, not the Ed) that said that Hoever's first team appearance had gone to his head and that he was regressing.

No one else including the eds have confirmed or denied that to be true though.

Less than a full game (he came off the bench early doors), and i'm sure he's seen more as a full back than a CB (at the moment anyway) . No reason to doubt 007's rambling posts, but he's been playing for Dutch youth teams in tournaments, so I would be surprised if he turned into a big-time Charlie after one subs appearance.

He wasnt brilliant but he did okay. What shone through was his confidence. He looked like a wee lad though, nowhere near ready. Must be decent though to have made the bench.

The price paid for van den berg is very good for a teenager that attracted the attention of all of europe's top clubs, he is very young and not expected to be a first teamer, the club will allow him to develop, if he fulfil his potential, then we have a hell of centre back pairing in the next couple of years, if not we 'll move him on and will make decent return on him. Remember Solanke.

Ed1, what would be the plan for this young kid then? We’ve signed him from playing 1st team football, presumably there’s little point in him joining our under 23’s so do you see him getting anywhere near the 1st team match day squad or will he get loaned out?

What’s so crazy about that question Jurgen? We’re taking a 17yo out of 1st team football so my question really is arenliverpool looking to put him into the 1st team squad, where by ahead of him is VVD, Gomez, Lovren and Matip or are we going to put him in with the under 23’s. I would presume there is some sort of plan rather than crystal ball gazing. Ed’s replies he could learn how to play our way in the under 23’s, that’s probably the plan and the club sure know better than me. I just wasn’t sure if that was a better development route that 1st team football, and if it wasn’t he’d either be expected to be pushing for our XI or we’d loan him.
