Just a question to see what ye think. I know there's been no indication that we are going for fekir but for debate I ask this:

12 months ago 99% of us were excited at prospect of his signing for a 50mil+ fee.

Any talk of him being a possibility now at half price and many fans not too bothered. What has changed opinions? It's not like his injury has shown any signs of problems this year.

We are now euro champions and didn't even use the Ox while hardly making use of Keita.
It will be fantastic if he joins but fine if not.

Yeah it's just i still think he's a very good player and I was gutted we didn't bring him in last year. Although jurgenator you are bang on, we were top class without him anyway.

Last season the ‘Coutinho replacement’ brigade were out in force. Now I think they’ve realised that we don’t need to replace a player who, although a good player made our team worse as a whole.

I get what ya saying Har_red but realistically mate we ain’t going back in for him. Like Jurgenator has said mate Ox Kieta Shaqiri hardly played last season at all so doesn’t make any sense signing Fekir imo.

He'd be a welcome addition, but quite simply we're better than many of us realised. We have one of the best defences in world football with a midfield that's only going to get better with Keita getting up to speed and the Ox's return. Couldn't say the same last summer.

Yeah all good points, I was only hypothetically asking. I thought maybe it was just after getting boring for us to listen to. I never saw him as a coutinho replacement as such, klopp instead trying a new formation. Cout always played from the inside left really, mane has taken his position up as such.

Don't matter anyway cos we were ruthless and devastating without him. Lemar too everybody though we needed badly.

I actually think that Fekir would be a good addition as we've no-one able to properly cover for Firmino as the false 9, a position which Fekir has played. Obviously, he wouldn't be brought in purely for that, but it's a nice option to have.

As much as I like Gini, it showed that we really need another option when he tried to play the Firmino role.

That’s just it Har, Coutinho was most effective when playing higher up on the left and cutting in. When we bought Salah and shifted Mané to the left the consensus was that Coutinho would play from midfield which just didn’t work. He was too slow on the ball and didn’t put in a defensive shift which we need from all three of our midfielders.
Coutinho was great but doesn’t have a place in this team so why would we need a replacement?
That being said Fekir is a quality player and the more quality we have in the squad the better.

I still think we need someone to replace Coutinho. You never know that person could have been the difference in the games we drew . Just some one with a bit of an eye for a pass, Fekir or even get Coutinho back . I know people are saying they don’t want him back but c'mon on his day he is class . And I’m sure all would be forgiven if he helped bring the perm back to we’re it belongs.

Coutinio was our best player! I don't think he made us worse, i just think he left at the wrong time. I know he ain't popular here, but if he had never been a liverpool player, i would be very pleased if we were signing him.

He left in January not june. And he was excellent in that cm role we had all waited so long to see him in. Losing him bought our boys closer together (probably klopp's master speech) but you guys have to admit, we lacked a player who can consistently make unbelievable pass3s. Hendo, gini and milner, not to mention fab can all pass. The ox is a great passer. But none of them can do it quite as well as little pipco. We'd have the league title as well as the ucl if he had stayed. Imo.

Coutinho was never renowned for his passing vision or killer ball though. I don't remember ever seeing him being able to play defence splitting game changing passes. I always find many people have that odd conception of his passing range. He would never give us more than 5 or 6 assists every season, and he relied much more on his close control and agile dribbling to gain spaces, which anywhere within 30 yards he wouldn't even contemplate anything other that a shot. He has a great strike to be fair but in my eyes he's far from a top class pass master.

And OX is probably the worst, certainly not the best in that group at accurate passes, he has other strengths that make him a good player but passing range is certainly not at the highest level. With our front 3 current style and set up, a central no.10 would offer little. Firmino doesn't play on the shoulder of defence and when salah and mane try to get in behind defences in central areas it normally comes as firmino drops deep into that no.10 pocket to disrupt a defenders line and try create space You can't possibly play a false 9 type forward with an advanced AM. Makes no sense

Instead we have had crazy amounts of joy from attacking from wide areas. We expand the pitch to create openings. Why suddenly change to accommodate a different style midfield and narrow congested attack approach. Our full backs offered 30 or so assists this season. Not many midfielders have ever reached those numbers in a season. Teams set up against us with deep sitting defences, the type of midfielder like keita or OX with forward probing runs would be a much more effective player than a guy with vision but never has space to pass into. Our only real central success is created when we can counter attack team's.

I think youll find the ox's passing had a lot to do sith salahs amazing first season har_red. And coutinio wasnt renowned for his passing and through balls? No disrespect har_red mate, you are obviously very knowledgable on the game but coutinio was/ is a brilliant passer, his vision along with his finishing was probably his best asset at liverpool. Why we were all so keen to see him in midfield, pinging balls out to mane and salah.
