Nice one Ed.

Fact check: Riyad Mahrez is definitely in top-10 most expensive PL transfers, and De Bruyne and Laporte are arguably in the top-10 depending on what source and currency exchange rates you use.

Mubarak's whole speech reeks of desperation even though he's put up a good defence against the La Liga President.

Morning, Cheers ed. Mubarak saying all that is like someone criticising someone else for buying a Veyron and a Fiesta while they themselves have a garage full of La Ferraris. It’s not about individual record breakers. Mostly, those records have to be broken to keep up with the likes of City who can spend at will and hide it if necessary. Of course people are envious. When David Silva and Fernandinho slow down or retires and they go and replace them with the likes of Saul or Ndombele for ridiculous fees (not to mention the subs bench full of 40 and 50 million pound players) and people carry on wondering where this comparative commercial minnow gets all this extra dosh from what will his answer be? The envy comes not from the success, but the fact that they can simply outspend the rest whenever anybody else gets close so they can continue to buy success. Most clubs can make a couple of attempts, they can sustain it.

I realise that if you are say, a Southampton fan, that this seems a little rich coming from a Liverpool fan who’s team has bought all their best players over the last few years, but I just ask what is the point of having a singular big fish in the pond?

Saying that, when Guardiola goes maybe they’ll just turn into Chelsea and hire and fire their way between brilliance and obscurity and I’ll see Guardiola as more of the legend that everybody seems to think he is. Though when your squad can paper over long term injuries to Kevin De Bruyne with no repercussions then it ain’t Ford Fiestas that you’re bringing on to replace him.

We did try to sign Chamakh before he joined Arsenal, right Eds?

{Ed001's Note - I don't remember sorry.}

I actually agree with Mubarak regarding La liga. The disparity between Barca, Real Madrid and the other 18 teams is plain wrong. Real Madrid famously signing a 'Galactico' every season for ridiculous sums.
However, Mubarak has the audacity to claim that just because Man City do not have the most expensive individual player then they are not abusing fFP.
I did not think Man City were as commercially successful as a lot of teams around Europe, so how have they assembled that squad whilst living within their means. As Ed02 would say, maybe it is best not to talk about money.

Weren't Stones and Mendy two of the most expensive defenders untill inflation left their fees behind🤔.
