I’ve just read the thread on Owen and I was wondering your opinion on fowler? I’m not really old enough to remember him live apart from his second spell but all the highlights I’ve seen and the stats I’ve read lead me to believe he was phenomenal in his teens and early 20’s. Do you think if he had remained injury free he would be spoken about in the same way shearer and Thierry Henry are?

Thanks for the reply ed, do you think if fowler hadn’t fell out with houllier, he could have stayed with us and become one of the world greats? Or do you think his injuries had already took their toll and he was on a downhill slope?

Fowler was the best finisher at the club. Houlier pragmatic approach did not suit Robbie. once he lost that initial burst of pace, through injury.
When a good finisher like Kevin Phillips comes out and says Robbie was the best finisher in the England squad, squads including Cole, Shearer Ferdinand, Collymore Owen and others, that tells you how good he was.

Better than rush for me. some of the outstanding goals he scored. absolute genius. Was just up against great strikers in the league at the time too.

What a natural goalscorer, not many finishers like him around in today's game, . Pace, athleticism, agility technique are often what the modern forward is expected to have. If the ball fell to robbies left peg in or around the box you knew he was hitting the target. Scored some beautys, my fave was when he bullied Neville off the ball and deftly chipped shmeicheal. If you mixed Owen and Fowler into one player you'd have the best striker to exist.
