It would be interesting to know how many Reds supporters really think we will match this season next time around. 97 points is an historic number for us, and that number didn't result in silverware.

We may yet end up with the big one and be champions of Europe, but that's for another day.

As probably the richest club in world football, City will spend again and I fear they will be like Utd were and dominate for at least the next 20 years.

In terms of the PL we actually improved by a massive 25 points? on last season, whereas City's points total actually dropped off. So there is hope for us yet.

For us, after an exceptional campaign, we are so far potless, and it is trophies that all top clubs are measured on in the end.

I hope we can bring home the CL trophy in June.

To be honest I'm amazed City at the points city got in the last 2 seasons. I would have thought they could do it so why can't we? Competition brings out the best in people.

Look at the age of first teams though. City have 4 vastly experienced players in Kompany, Fernandinho, Silva and Aguero. They built that dynasty. We have to do the same. It'll be 5 years before Virgil, Fabinho, Henderson and Firmino have that level of experience. We're a young team. Just have to keep plugging away and keep hold of our spine.

There is no guarantee 97 points will be needed to win the premier league next season. With the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, arsenal and Man utd going to improve it’s highly unlikely both teams will record that high point tally again!
The league will be highly competitive next season and that 20 points gap won’t be there next season.

Imo no team will get the same amount of ppints next season. Arsenal, spurs will improve, utd can't get any worse and Chelsea have some class youngsters and players on loan that they will be forced to play now due to their transfer ban which could help them. I still expect city and liverpool to be the top 2, but I expect the other teams to be closer.

No, City will split their difference with 99 and we’ll end up on 98, no doubt.

City will run away with it again next year. I don't see us or anyone else other than City getting close to 97 points again. I suppose Spurs could.

I guess a lot of it will be down to how they deal with the end of Aguero's Man City career. If they can do some creative accounting and bring in Mbappe, then we can say goodbye to the league for a few years.

If they turn to anyone else then it's game on for the next few years. I just think that Mbappe is at a crazy level and whoever signs him will be at a massive advantage as he's so so good and very young so is only going to get better.

Unfortunately, he'll not be moving to Liverpool. I just pray that City won't sign him.

We may not match the points. I believe a lot of teams will improve but I think the standard will be high and the title race will be just as close.

Remember we lost less games than Man City this season. They did well to win more than we did but they had more chinks in their armour than we did. If we keep our first team players, i fancy us to score more points than City next year.

for me, its a new season and we start all over again on zero. This "we need to make up 20-odd points" was rubbish and is rubbish. New season, new challenges and all that. let's see if City keep momentum 3 years running. I would be shocked if them and us hit the high 90s again.

At the start of next season it's always in our hands. This coming year we need to beat City home and away. We did it in the Champions League last season so we're capable. We can't spend another season praying other teams take points off them for us. This year they took 4 from us and we took 1 from them. That's why they won the league and we didn't. Focus on what we can control. We only have to worry about City in the league twice a season. The other 36 weeks they are somebody else's problem.

If City get 95+ points again and nobody else does, they deserve to win the league again. I don't think they will, that level of dominance in such a competitive and cash-rich league is nigh on impossible, but if they do then fair play to them. I actually think losing Kompany (the man, not the player) will be a big hit to them as a team, he's probably the most influential man in the dressing room (including Pep), that's not easy to cope with.

I think we will get at least 90 points.

MK you can't possibly compare Silva and Aguero with Hendo and Firmino they will never get close to the levels they reached.

My main fear is the lack of a break if there is so many people playing internationals! It can take its toll over a long season.

Personally, I don't think either City nor LFC will get as many points as they did this season. However that said, it will depend on how both teams handle whatever adversity comes their way. City lost FOUR games last season, more than LFC. Who says they won't lose more esp. if other teams are actually arsed about giving City a true game, you know the same way they always seem to do against us?

I also don't think we will lose only one game like we did this past season cos these things are not exact sciences. And it will depend on how other members of the top 6 like Spurs improve. I only mentioned Spurs cos frankly, Chelsea (transfer ban), Arsenal (not enough funds, reportedly) and Utd (a true basket case from top to bottom), will improve that much over City, Spurs or LFC. We will see what happens.

Both teams have set that high benchmark now but I wouldn't expect 98 and 97 points from both sides again. City will look to improve squad again, kompany as a leader will be a big loss I think, he really was an excellent captain.

Silva fernandinho and aguero have still been performing at high standards but they will no doubt be unable to keep going at that level beyond another year or so. They will need to look at rebuilding that spine again for the future. De bruyne hardly played this year so he will offer plenty next year too, . Their outgoings will be interesting with questions over sane and gundogan. Need a CB, DM and if Jesus isn't deemed successor to aguero will need a world class CF looking forward

I just feel our core group is much more settled to build long term success.
