Have you ever felt like our squad is always a player short?
VVD got delayed (for whatever reason)
Fekir or Fekir-type still pending

2017-18: we were amazing going forward but the defense kept leaking goals. VVD was the missing!

2018-19: We missed a forward/ AM like Fekir when our front 3 three were going through a bad run.

And I am not using hindsight here as these were the players we were already looking at but they got delayed.

Spot on, Ed. That is sports in general. No matter how good you are, you always feel that there is something you can improve on or there is someone you can bring in to improve a poaition or two. As Klopp said, "it's how it is".

Ed, not every team can say they are a player short, come on! United can say they were a left back, right back, two centre backs, a leader, a defensive midfielder, and attacking midfielder, a goal scorer, a right winger, a manager, a DoF and a chairman short. Don’t see them moaning.

Even with a world class squad 1 of the 11 has to be weaker than the rest so unless you have the n1 in every position there is always room for improvement.
