Can one of the eds please explain to me why winning the Premiership is more important than winning the Champions League. I would have thought that winning the latter gives the winners more exposure and fans around the world and enables you to attract high-calibre players. Or do the winners of the Premiership get more money? Also, I think Man City would give up one Premiership for a Champions League cup. Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - The PL is seen as the pinnacle of club football.}

PL? I think. you mean CL ed. PL is the pinnacle for us Liverpool fans because we are waiting so long but no way if u gave any player in the world the choice between the CL and PL he would choose the premier league.

{Ed002's Note - No, the PL is what clubs want - and once they have won that they look to the CL.}

That surprises me ed as I thought the exposure of the CL would enhance their worldwide fan base. But as a liverpool fan I would rather the PL but 97points isn't enough these days. Thanks for the reply.

Champions league is the biggest trophy in club football, fans from Spain Brazil Germany France etc don't give a hoot abt PL.

Now in our case we haven't won a league title for almost three decades so our fans globally are desperate for PL and that's why we've got mix feelings playing in Champions league final. But make no mistake winning it will be our biggest achievement since 2005 and klopp will be forever Included in our history. That's how big achievement it is.

{Ed002's Note - Why would fans from Brazil care about the CL? The owners are desperate for the PL - and that is what clubs strive for.}

The league competition is always the number one prize for any club across any country . proving yourself in your own domestic league over 34/ 38 games . The above posts is all about us being in the CL final and obviously we'll win it because we are the best in the universe and therefore must be better than City who only won the league and not good enough for the champions league.

{Ed002's Note - I agree Roy.}

I never disagree with you but I do on this.

Ask
Celtic
Juve
Barca
PSG
Ajax

These clubs have won plenty leagues recently and I would say 95% of their owners, players, fans would choose the champions league.

I think as well City, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea would all choose champions league.

{Ed002's Note - Right, so they have been winning their national leagues regular. Liverpool has never won the Premier League.}

I agree about LFC that is what we want but I understood the thread to be what is the most important generally.

Then I re read one of your replies - PL most important but once you win it then CL. So you right again boss.

To win the league you have to be the best and most consistent over 38 games.
To win the champions league you have to be in the top 4 of the league then qualify for the groups, then finish in the top 2 of your group of 4, then win 3 x 2-legged ties, then win the final.
There are no draws in the non-group stages of the CL. However, a draw in the PL can be decisive in the final shake-up.

Winning the PL is more difficult IMO.
Hard to say which is “the pinnacle” but I can see why someone would claim it’s the PL.

The trouble with these arguments is there is no right answer. Some Liverpool supporters value the European cup more and see it as an opportunity to move even further ahead of other British teams in Europe, others want that PL title because it's been nearly 30 years (? ) since we last won the league.

Other fans will have different opinions based on their team and league. Possibly if you asked a fan of a team in Scotland whether they'd prefer winning the Scottish League or the European Cup, they'd choose the latter since it's arguably held in much higher regard. But with the PL that's not the case.

Then you have teams like City who have won the league, and now their owners want the European Cup. On the flip side, our owners prioritise the league title over the European Cup. So I think the answer depends on who you are. If you own Liverpool then no, the European Cup is not better right now.

Personally I would have chosen the league first because it's been so long, but I think a 6th European Cup would be fantastic and it'd move us one more trophy ahead of our rivals. We really would be driving forward as the most successful British team in Europe.

On a side note, I'm disappointed we didn't progress further in the domestic cups. I'd love to have seen us competing in them, though who knows if that would have hampered our European performances.

For Liverpool fans and owners, winning the PL is what we all should want above anything else. I reckon if it was possible, City's owners would swap yesterday's league win for our place in the CL final because - as Ed002 alluded to - they've won the League a few times now so need to focus on taking that next step.

Shame we won't win either.

Klopp isn't interested in the domestic cups.
We aren't good enough to win the league.
We won't win the CL because Spurs will be hungrier than we are, we'll underestimate them and get burnt.

People say a good season, yeah alright, it's good when we win something, when will that be? I wouldn't mind seeing us lift silverware before I pop my clogs!

Klopp out.

I think it depends on the club and where that particular club is.

Liverpool are desperate to win the league as we’ve not won it for so long. And I don’t buy into the “Premier League” status, it’s the league championship with a name change. The only difference is that the fianance related to it. It’s just like saying Chelsea haven’t won the Milk cup, Arsenal beat Liverpool to win the littlewoods cup in 87, it’s the same completion, same cup.

I.

Did someone really just write 'Klopp Out'? Probably one of the best managers currently in the world who just missed out winning the league after losing one game all season. Absolute nonsense post.

13 May 2019 19:19:19
The likes of Juventus, PSG, Barca, Man City and Bayern would view the champions league as the pinnacle, simply because they win their own leagues almost every year, so these clubs strive to win the champions league to prove they are the best in Europe too.
In Liverpools case, they crave a PL title as it has been 30 years since last doing so. So here we are, a 'Champions' league final contested by teams that finished 3rd and fourth in their league.

Think nothing. Desire nothing. Take the experience as it comes and just enjoy. PL? CL? Neither here nor there. Victory's victory. Just enjoy.

This page is spiralling out of control and becoming a joke.

Good question and simple answer, the prem is more important to any English club than the Champions League. More important to those who have never won one. It’s a shame that decent debates are being ruined by childish accounts and their fake alter egos who are butt hurt.

One of the best seasons in 30 years and this is how you reward yourselves. I miss the days of YNWA.
