Ed's, it's far from over, but of the current teams in relegation (Cardiff, Fulham, Huddersfield as of today) are there any players you think might be worth a go on the relatively cheap?

{Ed002's Note - So you think it a good idea to replace players from a team at the top of the league with players from relegated sides?}

Good point though.

And partly Shaqiri (for first half of season)

Robbo, Wijnaldum and Shaqiri were all signed from relegated sides so I don't think there's any problem with that (okay, slight caveat, Shaq's level has dropped in recent months) .

Mooey can't spell his name, Aaron is first name I think. Huddersfield lad. I'm not saying he would be a starter and I know we have lots of cms but he has that attacking flair that our cms lack bar keita, lallana and milner. I just think he would bring a new aspect to the team.

Also shurrle from Fulham. Had a poor season but is a great player with bags of potential. Would provide cover for lots of positions.

And Ryan sessegnon. Would be a great back up for robbo although the lad has so much promise I can't see him wanting to play second fiddle.

{Ed002's Note - This would be to replace Keita? Or who? Would Sessegnon move to sit on the bench? A possible Mane replacement I suppose.}

Ryan sessegnon would be my pick if he was happy to be a squad player. Bags of potential there, can play lb or could rotate with either winger.

{Ed002's Note - Another £50M squad player? He will move somewhere that wants him.}

That's a fair point ed, thought we might have been able to snipe him for cheaper than that. Just figured he would be a good option to have as well as add to English players in squad but the kid should be trying to get regular game time which we couldn't offer him.

In response to Ed's 002, you're saying that among the three teams and 36+/ - players playing top flight football week in week out there aren't any players even worth looking at simply because they're in a relegation battle? I wonder where you would draw the line for looking at a player? If a team is one point out of relegation are there players worth looking at? How about 2? To insinuate there aren't individual quality players in a team sport seems nonsensical to me. And no, I'm not saying they need to be starters, but perhaps squad players or depth? We have an aging milner, low depth on the wing backs, and obviously (pending catastrophy) going do be in the champions league next year and could use quality and depth next season. Surely if there is a bargain we'd want to take advantage (like shaqiri and Robertson) . Just thought it would be a fun talking point at the very least but I sure hope our scouts aren't so pretentious and are willing to look at talent regardless of league or position in the table. After all, vvd was playing in Scotland not long ago and I think we can all agree that's a much weaker league. or mahrez that was playing in league 2 not long ago.

{Ed002's Note - It is not worth the bother quite frankly. Liverpool are doing really well and are top of the league, and they have some very good youngsters coming through. Now would be a great time to start listing which of the players and youngsters you want to move on to replace with players from relegated teams. Every week I read of the fans, win or lose, who want players out of the club. From my perspective the club should do no more than a little bit of refinement - but what do I know.}

I think there are some limited opportunities with clubs lower down to pick up someone who is good value.

However my view and I hold to it is that we need to strengthen the overall squad and have some other game changers. I'm not convinced the up and coming kids are ready to simply be on the bench and change games.

For me I'd get a quality RB, have TAA as options for RB and midfield, Id get a striker to replace Sturridge and also some legs in midfield plus the big buy of the summer a world class attacking midfielder. Do we need much else?

id like us to finally bring mitrovic in to fulfil Ed02s prophecy!

plus we need the backup in the attacking third!

I’m sorry Ed02 but why does buying a player mean they are a squad player can’t they play or push for a place? Sanchez is 300k a week squad player? Mahrez a 50 million squad player? These two barely play, yet we play the same three week in week out, and don’t really have an option of that calibre to rotate with, or make an impact off the bench. I know Sanchez hasn’t made any sort of impact, but they still bought him knowing they had Rashford martial Lukaku Lingard mata.
To fight on all fronts you need a squad, not just an eleven, so why is having options up front an issue. I’m sure Sturridge will be gone, and maybe ings Permanently, so we really only have shaq and Origi to rotate or come on.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United and Manchester City are in a different place to Liverpool. Sanchez is constraining MU for FFP. Manchester City has players who are pissed because they are not playing. I guess you cannot see the big pictuire and asume you expect Brewster sold?}

At the start of the season we had ings, Solanke Sturridge and Origi as strikers - and I know that’s too many - now we have two left, with one maybe both leaving. Brewster hasn’t had 90 mins of prem football yet, and whilst I want us to develop youth and have a pathway to the first team, we can’t bank on him being good enough to come in for Firmino if he was out. Okay, at the moment, we would bring in Origi and he has done well enough for me, considering the limited minutes he has had. I also understand that city probably have too many options in attack. I imagine sane is completely happy with his game time either. But still, god forbid we lost one of the front three for an extended period, we are losing a lot of quality with our replacements. Hence it’s an area I think we need to address, and don’t see it as one in one out. I’m not saying a 80 million pound player, but if we did buy someone of quality as a striker or winger, I think they’d get enough minutes to be satisfied in their first season, and allow us to rotate a little more when needed.

Replacements for Migs and Moreno Hessle, neither will want to waste another year of their careers on our bench.
