Fair review ed. However, i do not get the sentiment of make shift defense. I donot get why we would play milner at RB against Zaha when we had fabinho who has played there before in the team. It should have been fab at rb and milner in the middle. couldn't get why keita was on the wings but he did OK. In the first half i couldn't get the formation and i don't think the team did either. As soon as it changed in second half mane got more involved and ran at them and bang goal goal goal. Of their goals i think that Tomkins goal was a pity. Ayew took out two of our player albeit illegaly but that should not happen especially with two of our biggest lads.

Also Mane needs to sort out his shooting, he has missed some real chances this season at good times too. he is just too much awkward when the crucial time comes. for eg. looses balance, doesn't see players in better positions.

Agree on Mane’s composure, maybe we shoulda started him on stabilisers in preseason before letting him ride he bike. But to be fair to Mane, he misses a few but then he bags! It’s more of a question of getting him enough chances because eventually he delivers.

Seems like in the same way Salah is unfairly being labelled a diver, for going down easily a few times, in the same way Mane is being labelled as awkward and without decision-making skills.

Mane is exactly the same as he's been when he was player of the season two seasons ago and the same as he was last year when he scored 10 PL goals (9 so far this season) . Some fans have just chosen to focus on this aspect of his game and repeat it so that it becomes the truth to them.

Edd001 do you feel RB is a weakness regardless of our injuries? I'm not sure Trent would not have struggled against Zaha on Saturday. Zaha going 1 vs 1 against Milner is more the teams fault than Milner's. A strong starting 11 probably has OX dropping deep to protect the RB, the Left will Have Naby doing the same protection. But could or should we improve on the RB position in your opinion?

{Ed001's Note - Trent could have handled Zaha fine as he can match him for pace. The only thing Zaha did was out pace Milner, no skill or cleverness involved.}

Good read Ed,

I thought you did well to avoid mentioning the inept Jon moss, the Townsend handball was laughable, then again it looks like Robertson also may of handled in the build up to the fourth.

{Ed001's Note - Moss is always the same, pointless mentioning him as he is a cretin who should be sacked but is just as much of a problem for both teams.}

thanks for the read. nice as usual.

just a few thoughts.

1) i actually thought Alisson could have done better with the 3rd goal though Meyer did have a free shot inside the box.

2) Zaha has gotten tons of praise after this. he no doubt battered Milner but i thought while he's wonderful going forward, he did not do enough tracking back. Milner found himself in acres of space on several occasions and this ultimately led to our 3rd goal.

3) Agreed that VVD had a moment of weak play which was unusual. Ayew was holding on to him, but it was not as if he could not have broken free from it. If he did, he would have cleared the corner easily. Just surprised that he was looking for the foul rather than exerting himself and dealing with the situation and letting the foul become obvious.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

Ed, don't you think Hodgson should be under pressure to get more from that palace team. At the bottom end every season when they should easily be getting top half.

{Ed001's Note - they don't have a striker worthy of the name and that means they are always going to be under pressure at the bottom half.}

Great review, Ed. First off, i thought Milner played a really solid game at RB considering who he had to go against and also having the ability to get forward, provide support to the attack and offer a chance that got us the 3rd goal. It would have been easy for him to play it safe BUT he had the engine and courage to take the fight to Palace at times. Also, I don't really think Zaha "tormented" him that much. Zaha got his licks in BUT not that much esp. cos Hendo was there to help out as well. This explains how under-achieving and inconsistent Zaha is cos he would have done more damage had he actually tried.

I also agree that tho Keita looked off the pace a bit, your saying that Klopp picked him on the left to protect Robbo which he did very well now that I come to think of it. Shaq would not have been able to protect Milner the same way Mane can. This is why it is good to always know what the manager is trying to do before slating the selected player or the manager who picked him. As for Allison being slated for the goals he conceded, such people should actually go watch the game with their eyes open instead of looking for things to criticize.

As for Slating Mane for not scoring, he has 9 already this season whereas he had 10 last season so that criticism goes out the window. Also, slating just his shooting and decision-making is a very myopic way to judge a player. If you cannot see all the work that Mane (and Salah and Bobbie) does off the ball to protect Robbo (hence, allowing him to be the Robbo we all love in attack) and help out off the ball then you are the one who cannot see the forest from the trees. Proof? Did you see how Mane tracked all the way back into his own box to help clear a dangerous cross from Zaha? Yeah, exactly. Mane is a boss player and when he is on it, he is unplayable. Ask Real Madrid.

Finally a fair observation of Keita's performance yesterday. I thought it was just me wondering what the boo boys were talking about!

I agree about Milly he’s not looked the same since he got injured hopefully he gets back to the good form he was at before we reach the end of the season!

Thanks for your great Insights ED. I eagerly wait for the reviews. Do you also feel that Matip not holding the defensive line led to the first goal? I thought the pass to Zaha would have been offside otherwise. Many thanks again for the review. Much appreciated.
