With the little bit of controversy over the wearing of poppies the weekend. I don't recall seeing them on Liverpool or Arsenal shirts. Is it up to each club?

{Ed002's Note - Clubs and players make their own choice - next weekend you will see what the choice is.}

There shouldn’t be any controversy over it.
It’s a sign of remembrance and whether you choose to wear it or not is personal choice. 👍.

Going to have to disagree with you there Ron mate. It’s a British tradition, players are living in Britain, being paid by British clubs. Outside of the football, absolutely your own choice I agree.
I remember clattenburgh stopping a game in the Middle East half way through for prayers. It’s about respecting where you are in the world, I feel. Hope you’re well anyway 🤙🏼.

Benny Baller, I can’t agree with you. The wearing of a poppy in a lapel or on a football shirt is surely a matter of personal conscience and personal choice. We should respect the decision of those who choose to wear a poppy and those who choose not to.

To me it should be mandatory out of respect, no matter what. But I understand other points as well. It's one of them.

I don’t need you to agree Wirral 🤙🏼 They play football in this country, that our forefathers built and protected. They can only play in this country because of those who died and fought for it. An that’s why they should wear the poppy and remember all those who died fighting, on both sides. Innocent men who were used like pawns by their establishments.

{Ed001's Note - but those men fought and died so people have the choice to wear it or not. It was against dictatorship they fought.}

I respect people's choice to do what they want regarding wearing poppies or not. What I don't have respect for is someone to give his understandable view why he doesn't wear a poppy then quote a man who was in a terrorist organisation that murdered hundreds of people over 40 years. Total idiot!

Think I agree with Wirral but understand Benny’s point of view.
It’s about remembrance and this feels like “forced remembrance”.
What I’d like to see is for all the players to donate 10% of this week’s wage to the British legion. That will do a lot more than getting a poppy sewn into your football shirt and for me is the least they could do to remember our heroes and heroines.

{Ed0333's Note - One of the wonderful things about the UK is that it’s a secular society which is a beautiful thing. It is our democratic right to practice and observe whatever we choose to do so or not to do so. We have a multicultural society, a melting pot if you will and if members of the public don’t affiliate with a poppy then why force your views on someone. Benny Baller alluded to Clattenburgh stopping a match midway in Saudi Arabia for Adhan (call to prayer) it’s normal practice for that to happen across Saudi Arabia in malls, gas stations, restaurants, cafes, hospitals et al this is for religious reasons and is state law and not a choice like wearing a poppy. Here’s another view on the subject bbc.com/sport/football/46099843

You took words right out of my mouth ed001, we'll said. The heroes who laid down their life did so for everyone to have the freedom to choose and not be dictated to, you seem to be totally missing the point benny.

The English celebrate these people who died in war but they don't realise the cruelty and horror they caused in the rest of the world when they plundered resources and destroyed lives. Not something to celebrate actually.

As with all acts of remembrance or ‘respect’, if every single person is forced to wear the Poppy it ceases to have any meaning at all, people have many reasons why they may choose not to wear it and that is okay. If you listen to Matic’s story and why he won’t wear it this year then the difference between our world and the world that others have had to grow up and live in, you can see why peoples perspectives can differ.

Mane10 I’m afraid you are incorrect.

“Remembrance” is no celebration it’s a somber reflection on the horrors of war.
Remembrance makes no judgement on right or wrong.
It is also not just about “England” and to make that mistake totally neglects then hundreds of thousands of non-English heroes who laid their life on the line in war.
We should never forget what happened and the lives it ended and ruined. We should always respect people’s right to freedom 👍.
