Ed, can you do an article on Wilson's free-kick last night. It was that good.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen it yes but no, it was just one free kick.}

Hurry up and check it out Ed, its out of this world.

He just absolutely spanked the ball didn't he? He struck it with such beauty.

I watched the game from start to finish and Wilson was a threat through out.

I hope he keeps up this form!

Red Sandman.

Yeah honestly Ed001 do give it a looksy. I've watched it fifty times and still can't quite wrap my head around the physics of it.

What a goal! Haven't seen that technique used that often. Do you think he has ever trained with Philip coutinio? Good lad giving it the "five times"

5.) 26 Sep 2018
26 Sep 2018 09:49:48
If the lad continues, he's going to be something special for us next season.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath Salah.}

That is a true knuckle ball. Not seen one like that since Roberts Carlos. Absolutely pied the goalie.

Keeper probably should have kept that out 😉.

Ed2! how are you mate? you well?

{Ed002's Note - I am indeed in reasonable shape thanks. And are you back up and running?}

Glad to hear it Ed2. Chance would be a fine thing mate, but I'm getting there. I can't really moan, I'm just bored and frustrated more than anything but it doesn't last forever so I'm just looking forward to the future :) . Take care mate.

{Ed002's Note - You have the niftiest of days Salah.}

Hi ed2, just a quick one and I understand if you don't want to expand, but its seems your not convinced that Wilson will get the first team opportunities at Liverpool, I'm just surprised that a young player who shows his ability regularly still probably won't be considered for a place in the squad next season, any reason why you think that might be the case?

Many Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The owners have made it clear that they indend to buy the Premier League title and Klopp has made it clear he has changed tact and all of his previous statements about building from within are out of the window. Right now, the likes of Grujic, Ojo, Woodburn and Wilson (plus the likes of Allan and Awoniyi who are in limbo) are getting first team football and will have to consider their futures. Do they look to continue their progression or (if the opportunity arises) or risk being the new Chirivella who trains with the first team squad but in reality has little chance of playing and no chance of playing regularly. maybe they will keep their eye on how much game time Brewster gets when fully fit, he was promised that he would be integrated and used regularly - but the players will be aware that Grujic was promised all sorts that also never came true. If Liverpool were to really get their act together regarding progression, loans etc., I am sure it would ease the issue. And I should say that this is not something that is peculiar to Liverpool, other clubs suffer in just the same way - Everton has a player in Lookman who after playing in Germany at a high-level does not want to be third or fourth pick at Everton, Nathanial Chalobah left Chelsea to get first team football, Serge Gnabry is only now building up a good career after leaving Arsenal a couple of years ago, etc..}

Very insightful Ed but I'm sure some players, example TAA have a chance to gradually make it to the first team.

Wilson continues to impress if he were to progress as everyone wants surely he can take Lallana's place in the squad next season and maybe be a first teamer some day?

{Ed002's Note - As I said, he will want to play. Lallana doesn't play.}

I am with Ed002 on this one. If Wilson stayed behind without going out on loan at max he will be in bench tonight. I expect another loan but to PL club next season.

Thanks for the in depth reply, i find myself agreeing with you about the majority of the youngsters, although none of them have performed as well as Wilson, excluding Chirivella who did well but then knocked back Rosenberg, his situation is in part his own making. Brewster will be an interesting one because regardless of talent, how do you drop Bobby and Studge unless injured.

{Ed002's Note - I appreciate Brewster is injured at the moment but he has a great deal of potential at a young age and Chelsea were disappointed when he left - the issue is that yet again he is a player who has had promises made to him that really don't align with what the club is doing. Chirivella is one who will need to make a decision soon.}

Gulacsi, Suso, Luis Alberto etc. etc.

As you point out Ed002 mate, this is not peculiar to LFC alone. Do you think we have a problem with player development in this country? What would you opine could be done? Is FIFA right to limit loans.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the country it is the approach taken by individual clubs that t is the real issue with loans - although the English sides generally don't have a particularly good approach.

I think there has been a great deal of misunderstanding about the proposals FIFA has.}

Just to clarify Ed002 - did Chirivella not decide to leave but fail to secure his move? I neither want this nor hope for this but it was my understanding of the summer events, is that not correct? Assuming it is, I very much hope we do better in proving to others that they will get time and make room in the squad for them.

On the wider point, it's time to stop filling the bench with players who are unlikely to have huge tactical importance as a sub, and who won't benefit from shorter appearances. When we are winning comfortably we are good enough to take risks without too much concern that it'll actually cost us and get some people in that would actually benefit from half an hour of football with the first team every other week at least. Southampton and West Ham are already two great wasted opportunities where at least one player of our aspiring youth could have had a no risk 20 minutes of football. It needs to happen. And if you don't think it's important then consider this - imagine the CL final except when Salah went off we bought on another winger full of pace and willingness to shoot instead of someone completely different who made the entire team and tactics not click (not Lallana's fault just not a role he could do even in his price) . Quality might not be the same, but at least it would give a chance to still get the best out of the rest of our stars. Had we been putting in either Woodburn on Wilson every time we opened up a three goal lead last season, that might have been an actual option and then who knows?

{Ed002's Note - Pedro Chirivella rejected the opportunity to move and now is no more than fluff for the first team.}

I've never really liked Frank lampard but when I think why it's because he was really good and didn't play for Liverpool. I think Derby is a good place for Wilson atm, lampard is an intelligent bloke and I reckon the sort of coach who will improve players, especially attacking players.

A balance between home grown youngsters and multi million pound stars is a tough one. Over the last 2 seasons gomez, Alexander Arnold and dom solanke have all had significant game time. Brewster has been promoted to the first team and I'm sure if he impresses in training he will get a shot.

Klopp gave the pre season to the youngsters as well. If we played all the youngsters mentioned we would not be top of the league, we may even be struggling. I don't think Liverpool are the worst offenders, at least kids know it is possible at Liverpool. Solanke got a good shot last season and although he played well, unfortunately he didn't stamp a claim on the team.

Also we crashed out of both cups early on last season and I reckon we would have seen more of the young team. Hopefully we get past Chelsea tonight and have some games against lower league teams this season.

I really wouldn’t concern yourself with who was promised what. I bet all players are promised if they knuckle down, work hard and improve they will get their chances. It’s then down to the individual player.
TAA did just that and look at him now. If Brewster, Wilson, Grujic etc. do the same then they will get their chances and when they do they have to take them.
If they don’t do what’s required then they only have themselves to blame regardless of what they were ‘promised’.
If you think about it, it would be massively counter productive to say to a young player ‘work hard but even if you do you won’t get any chances in the first team’. Of course they will promise them game time, it’s called motivation. Then it’s up to the player to force his way in.

{Ed002's Note - You clearly don't understand.}

It was a beautiful knuckle ball - reminded me more of Bale than Coutinho, and completely duped the keeper with a double swerve.

As to playing time, he’s doing exactly the right thing in playing first team football in the championship instead of sitting on the bench. ed02 is right that it’s very unlikely that youngsters get game time at a club like Liverpool just for having talent, they’re far better developing that talent in other leagues for a couple of years and then coming back with experience of a competitive professional league. Obvious exceptions like Trent are rare and require exceptional talent but also luck in terms of the team needing emergency cover at just the right time.

Guys, I have seen Wilson's goal and my word, it seems to defy the laws of Physics. The whip, dip, pace and swerve on that ball would have left ANY gk with NO chance at all. The world class quality of that free kick shows that Wilson has been working hard on his game and trying to add to his repertoire as an all-round footballer. I hope he gets a chance and that we keep him long term.

I completely understand Ed having been a young player in that position. Not at that level but still with a chance of forging a career in the game had I just got my head down and worked at my game.
I was promised this and that if I signed for this or that club but it wasn’t the clubs that didn’t eventually give me the chance it was me not doing enough to force them to give me the chances I wanted.
It’s a results driven business sentiment has no place in the game it took me a while to understand that and be the time I did it was too late.
Nobody owes you anything it’s up to you to grab the opportunities with both hands and these kids have a huge opportunity it’s just up to them to do whatever it takes to take it. Or they could take the easy way out and leave for a lesser club which most seem to do because it’s very difficult to break into a top premier league side at a young age.

{Ed002's Note - Most clubs do not promise kiddies the things that Klopp does.}

23.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 00:06:32
I understand Klopp has gone back on promises on more than one occasion, but would it not be worse to keep playing someone with a poor attitude just because he had promised him game time previously?

24.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 00:10:19
could you not see Brewster and Solanke fighting it out to back up Bobby with Sturridge and Origi moved on?

25.) 27 Sep 2018
27 Sep 2018 08:20:55
These days at the big clubs it seems youngsters only get a chance if there's an injury crisis, that's basically how TAA and Gomez got there chances, can't think of many youngsters who progressed through naturally into the team.

Thank you Ed002, didn't realise it was him who rejected the chance. Much appreciated.
