Morning Ed001 I'm not going to say anything about the potential signing of Shaqiri because the last time I did that I went on a massive rant about Ox and look how that turned out, thankfully. So I'm just going to say nothing and let the player get on with it.

{Ed001's Note - as I look on it, it is all about hoping a player proves you wrong. I really do not get the signing, but I hope I spend the next few years having people ridicule me for it...}

So Ed is the deal all but done mate?

{Ed001's Note - all but done? No, but he is keen on the move so there is little real impediment to it being done. *sigh*}

I think he will become a fans favourite. He will win us points and games especially at home. £13m bargin.

I find it an underwhelming and confusing signing TBH. I would have thought it would be a great opportunity for someone like Harry Wilson to be given an opportunity to step up into the first team then reassess in the January window, and then bring someone in if it wasn't working out. I don't get signing someone to be essentially a bench player, especially a guy with his reputation and perceived attitude issues. As you said Ed, 'sigh'.

Lol a fans favourite? good one.

Quite a big statement that Mark. This smells like a Balotelli signing to me. In Klopp we trust? Hmm.

For me the guy starts with a clean slate and I look forward to watching him curl some beauties into the top corner. In a team with so much quality he is going to get chances and I'll back him to finish them, too. Hopefully he's a bit older and wiser now and has the little bit of humility and patience required to be a squad player at a big club. If three seasons at Stoke with Charlie Adam doesn't make you appreciate being surrounded by top players, nothing will. Fingers crossed he becomes our super sub and plays a big role in bringing Barry his coveted FA and League Cups.

Shaqiri starts with the advantage of looking like a young Gerry Marsden who's been in the gym. Put him in a 60s suit and winkle pickers and we'd all stop moaning.

However, for the record, I', in agreement with Mr001 and find it an odd signing too. A stand-in playmaker number 10'ey sort of thing?

It is a baffler this one. He is undoubtedly talented and has moments where you think "if that was Messi people would be sayIng it's world class" but puts in effort only when he wants not when the team does. Now Klopp would have seen this and realise the risk but must think he can change his attitude toward working for the team. If he can then we could have a gem but does anyone actually thinking will be any more than fools gold?

{Ed002's Note - So you think Shaqiri is potentially "world class".}

10.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 09:29:06
Just like OX and Robertson -what did you say about them? Salah You preach about support but only for players you like.

11.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 09:30:32
The alternative thinking on Shaqiri could be as cover / insurance in case Fekir's knee goes pop!?

12.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 09:32:41
For heaven's sake, for once can we give a player a chance! Its boring now, we've had it with mane, Ox, and Robertson and even to agree Salah! Am sure i will get a lot of dislikes but i backed all of the signings above and i back this one as for price and look at his stats he's putting in numbers to match Rashford martial etc at worst team in league as opposed to them playing in team who were 2nd. Get behind him and you may just be surprised.

{Ed002's Note - Good for you. In certain circles he is known as the Kosovan Nabil El Zhar.}

13.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 09:40:51
Spot on, Ed. I do not get this signing as well. People often compare this to the Ox and Robbo signings BUT that is a false comparison as it lacks context hence, a red herring. I did not want Ox here cos I thought he was not good enough due to his level of production at Arsenal. Robbo was deemed not good enough cos there were too many flaws to his game. The DIFF. here is that I NEVER questioned Ox's and Robbo's ethics, desire, attitude and ability to learn. This is the issue with Shaquiri. As Ed has said, this is just hoping that a somewhat talented player, comes good with better players and better coaches around him. Here's to hoping.

14.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 09:56:34
We can't buy a £60m player for each position. This signing is done to allow us to pay big money for players in other positions.

{Ed002's Note - At least it keeps the youngsters out of the side.}

15.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:07:09
The Gerry Marsden reference. "I like it. "

16.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:05:31
The “In Klopp I trust” brigade seem to be faltering. Or what about the “YNWA” gang? I thought he could make any player great?
Give the player a chance he might surprise us.

{Ed001's Note - but that is not the point is it? This is a player LFC are spending millions on purely to provide injury cover and sit on the bench. Scrap the academy if this is the way the club are going to act, because it is pointless having it any more. They barely got a look in last season when people were talking about our weak bench, but the lad who did get a chance because of injuries and lack of cover was one of our better players by the end of the season. This is the exact same route we always go down, start off buying first team players then stop and start buying bench fillers and wonder why the first team performances fall off.}

13 Jul 2018 10:12:09
haha, nice one Ed002, but I think the Swiss-Assaidi has a nicer ring to it. Sssssslips and sssssslithers off the tongue.

18.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:15:11
Shaqiri will surprise a few. He does have that ability to smack one in from outside the box with that left foot. I think our shooting from outside the area against packed defenses is woeful. Keita Shaqiri and Fekir all have the ability to trouble the keeper from distance.

19.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:29:24
He absolutely had world class potential back in the u17’s tournament. That’s when I saw him and erriksen first. They were miles above the other young lads. Personally I think erriksen kicked on.

20.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:54:51
I would definitely say that Erriksen has kicked on.

21.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 10:19:01
How do you know he won’t end up in first 11 Ed, have you a crystal ball? You like me and everyone else here have no idea how next season will pan out. You are the one who constantly gives out about fans not being supportive, why not lead the ban wagon this time and be positive.
After last season it’s safe to presume a Klopp is not one for putting faith in the younger players, we have to live with that and hope his signings continue to do well and get us back to champions.
He’s doing a pretty good job up to now so why not be positive and hope he sees and has a way for Shaq and any other purchases to shine.

{Ed001's Note - so you think that Shaqiri is going to take the place of Firmino, Mane or Salah then? Clearly not so don't talk soft. He is not, even on his best days, at their level. Why would I be supportive of him buying a player? When he is bought, that is different. Then I will support the player in a Liverpool shirt, like I did Balotelli, Carroll and all the other dross that never deserved a shirt.}

22.) 13 Jul 2018

Thesis different ed.

Who on earth can we buy stronger than our front 3 without breaking the bank.

Getting a little experienced cover is a smart move

Wilson, ojo, and Kent may never get the taa chance because of the fitness of the front 3. So stagnant them for a year? Why not let them go out on loan and let someone like shaqiri bide his time on the bench?

{Ed001's Note - how would it be stagnating them? There are plenty of games for one of them to make plenty of appearances off the bench and to rotate in to rest the front 3, otherwise why even buy someone? Getting a little experience cover would be a smart move if he was experienced in the right things. Such as putting in effort. If he was older and coming to the end of his career, great move. But a 26 year old benchfiller is just ruining other players' chances and is stupid.}

Mark back up what you're talking about, I support every Liverpool player whether I like them or not, answer me, who haven't I supported in the Liverpool squad? I have already said numerous times how I'd support Shaqiri if he comes but saying he'll be a fan favourite? that's just delusional because it's never going to happen. A fan favourite is your Salah, Firmino, Mane, Hendo, TAA kind of players not Shakiri.

I guess you remember exactly what I said about Robbo and the Ox before they joined then? please quote me.

24.) 13 Jul 2018

Clyne.

25.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 15:31:02
Clyne? so I haven't supported Clyne? I think you'll find you're wrong mate. I don't rate him as a player at all but as long as he's a Liverpool player he get's my support every time he put's that shirt on. Do I hope he leaves soon? yes. Do I rate him at all? no but this doesn't mean I don't support him.

Why you even bring up supporting x player is beyond me because it's irrelevant, we're talking about Shaqiri here who isn't even a player yet. I don't support such move and I won't but he'll get my support when he comes.

{Ed0333's Note - I hear that the Shaqiri transfer is being held up because his advisors are wanting reassurances that Salah gives Shaqiri his unequivocal support before he signs the contract. It’s all on you Salah if he doesn’t sign mate.

26.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 15:40:16
Hahaha love it Ed333, in that case, I can officially confirm Shaqiri will not be joining Liverpool. If his advisers asked me if I'd support him after he signed the contract then it'd of been yes but before? Nah, he can stay at Stoke mate ;) . One can dream.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m not too sure Stoke want him mate lol

27.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 17:01:14
Hmm Ed333 we have a real problem on our hands now mate, will you have him? he could give Harry in your basement some company? ;) .

{Ed0333's Note - Harry escaped from my basement anyone seen him? I’m sure he’ll be back on Monday morning creaming the walls of my basement reminiscing about the Croatian midfield and all their splendor.

28.) 13 Jul 2018
13 Jul 2018 19:35:26
He might be with Walter Ed333 mate, hope that helps and you get him back asap!

{Ed0333's Note - I know why Kovacic ain’t been started for Croatia someone’s been keeping him busy.
