Just want to hear people's opinions.

Would you rather we spent the Coutinho money in this January transfer window, where the players Klopp and the club want will be difficult to acquire, and possibly require purchase at exorbitant prices.

Or, keep the money and spend it in the summer where teams might be more willing to part with their players considering they would have more time to find replacements?

For me, I am really split. My heart says spend now because we have lost a huge player which might affect our progress into the top 4 places. My head, is saying keep it and use it wisely in the summer, allowing more time to scout other potential players.

Would be interested to hear people's opinions.

Are you some sort of mind reader, Mango? I have literally just sent the exact same question as a post!

I'm also torn, but on balance I'd prefer to get someone now, even if they are cup tied in the CL. Dropping out of the top 4 is too big a gamble, imo.

Good question. Firstly, we should go all out to get Naby Keita in now I reckon. Beyond that, try and get the long term targets across the line now but if not possible, don’t compromise on the quality just to get bodies in January. if we can’t get Lemar / Pulisic now, we shouldn’t lower our sights for a Mahrez or Lanzini now (for example) .

Better to use what we have, although NK is a must I reckon.

Good question Mango and for me it's also a tricky one. This season I believe the aim is to qualify again for CL football and maybe a domestic cup. As it stands there are 3 places for CL football next season (excluding City) and 5 teams competing for them. If we plan to recruit in the summer then our player window will depend massively on whether we are in the CL or not. Failing to prepare for Couts departure this window which surely the club knew was happening could prove to be our undoing. If we do not recruit in jan and qualify for the CL then the gamble would have paid off and we can strengthen in the summer with the quality that will continue to move us forward. If however we don't recruit and miss out on CL and get Europa then it could be a case of 1 step forward 2 steps back.

It depends on if the required quality is available. If it isn't, then Klopp will (rightly) keep his powder dry and wait until summer.
Klopp isn't going to sign just anybody to keep whinging fans happy, he's proved that with Keita and VvD.
My guess is it'll be summer. but you never know with Klopp.

Would like to see the first team strengthened be it phils permenant replacement a defensive mid or a keeper maybe two of the above. would prefer them now to bed in ready for next season but if the right player is unavailable don't waste the money now.

If we can get our maintargets now yes, if not wait- don't spend money for the sake of it!

I think it's more a question of money. I believe we will probably get a better deal on our main targets in the summer, but we can probably get them now for more money - I'm thinking Lemar, Goretzka (maybe), Meyer, or Naby early. On balance I'd rather spend some more money now than risk losing out on CL prestige and money next season.

We should've already had someone in mind. It's a disgrace if we don't replace him.

I’d be happy spending if rs what Klopp wants and we’re not paying silly money on Andy Carroll types but at the end of the day we’re fans Klopp a paid to make decisions and I trust him.

Remember that prices are likely to be hiked after the World Cup. So buying in summer could be worse.

A huge chunk of it went on VVD.

I’d be happy for us to pay up a bit more to get NK, Goretzka or Lemar in, but we shouldn’t knee jerk for a second tier option if they aren’t abailable.

If we fail to get CL for 2018/ 19 I am concerned that this will hamper our ability to buy a top draw player in the summer.
We should go all out to get somebody now imo.

If no one will sell their best player to you in Jan (which is what would be required to replace Cou in some way), there is nothing anyone can do and no amount of whinging fans will make them sell to us. If we can get someone this Jan that Klopp wants, great. If we can't, NO PANIC BUYS, go with what we have and keep your money till the summer.
