Dear Ed002,

Have you seen the leaks by the Hackers called Fancy Bears regarding doping? Are there claims of Tevez, Heinze and Kuyt doping the 2010 world cup true? Also is there a hidden world of doping in football?

{Ed002's Note - You need to Google Bonar (I don't recall his forename) and Rob Brinded who made allegations that blood enhancement was rife in football 10 or 15 years ago - but later retracted his claims. It is common in other sports but pretty rare in soccer - but there have been accusations held up in Spain and some very serious accusations in Germany dating back 25 years or so invoving Schalke. There has been an ongoing issue (wrapped up in legal disputes) concerning Barcelona. There is no question about any English players or sides involved in what these people have said and much of it relates to times at which TUEs (making what they are doing an allowable exception on a temporary basis) were in place. Have TUEs been misused? I have no doubt they have. Is doping a major issue in football? Not now but back in the day it way. Does it go on still? To my knowledge there are private doctors who players who have been to without the knowledge of the clubs - these are doctors with miracle cures. Are these fat burning drugs an issue? Players are briefed every season and yet some still turn to them - it seems to be more of an issue in the UK than in mainland Europe.

So not a real big issue.}

Wasn't their a trial in Spain where a load of blood bags were taken but never got analysed?
Always wanted to know what would have shown up in those bags.

{Ed002's Note - Blood we concluded.}

Thank you for the detailed response Ed002! Glad to see it's not a big issue in football now. Would hate to see football go down the same route of my 2nd favourite sport (cycling) .

Fair play to lance Armstrong,
Winning the tour while on drugs.
I can't even find my bike when I'm off my face.

What you are referring to is operacion puerto in Spain 2006 which was initially a raid on cycling causing the two race favourites basso and ullrich to be excluded from the tour that year
The dodgy doctor called Fuentes made allegations that top level Spanish footballers were clients of his and involved in blood doping but was basically threaten by lawyers of the top primera clubs to keep his mouth shut -
So nothing came of those allegations.

{Ed001's Note - he did not allege that they were, he had been openly working with Real Madrid, Barcelona, the Spanish national team, Juventus and numerous other major European clubs. The allegations he made were that if the truth became know Spain would be stripped of all its titles in football. While we have no way of knowing if that is true, it is telling that the Spanish judge ordered all samples destroyed to avoid any investigation into the football. Oh and certain other Spanish sporting legends, such as Rafa Nadal, were also implicated as they were his clients too. I believe the case is still ongoing, but, in a country as corrupt as Spain, it is unlikely the truth will come out.

To explain what I mean about the corruption in Spain, there is a group that was claiming to be trying to clean up Spanish politics by revealing evidence of corruption by top politicians. When investigated it turned out the group itself were as bad and heavily involved in corruption, the only people they were actually outing were those that refused to pay up when blackmailed by the group.}

I'm a massive cycling fan too and historically more often than not if a rider is alleged to 'work' with an individual like Dr Fuentes it most likely means they are on a doping programme. So it really does tally that the evidence was destroyed to protect certain individuals. Different can of worms but this is why I'm half suspicious of Mo Farah and his 'association' with Salazar.

Probably worth saying those 3 were granted TUEs NOT accused of doping at all.

Fancy Bears sound like the same Russian hackers (Fonzy and Cozy Bear) who hacked the Democratic National Committee systems during the U. S elections in 2016.
