Just recalling Ed01s comments on VVD and in particular his game awareness. whilst he looked good at Southampton would our system not expose him just as much as it does Lovren? a lot of money and possibly a gamble?

Apart from fact VVD is very quick compared to lovren. As he showed on a few occasions, getting back at Mane to make great block. Also stronger and better on the ball. Offers a goal threat more so than lovren etc. I think he would be brilliant signing, and have said since watching him a lot at celtic a top premiership side should sign him back then!

every transfer is a gamble, and just like gambling some pay off and some don't. Van Dijk is physically far superior to Lovren though, in size and strength and most importantly pace.

Lovren is not a bad defender. The lack of protection exposes the defensive line. We need a DM.

VVD not happening anyway but great point Red.

Truly hope you are both right! I haven't watched him closely enough but hopefully Hendo will be around more to screen those counterattacks anyway.

I agree with you, Red and Bedd. VVD ain't going to happen and for that price, I am glad as he is not even close to being worth it. He lacks game awareness, concentration and positioning.

He also plays in a team with potentially two DM's in Romeu and/ or Classie/ Hojbjerg in front of him hence, he is well protected. That would not happen here (as we don't play with a pure DM) as our CB's are often exposed and would be required to defend one on one during counter attacks. This is where he will be found out and frankly, I'd either get someone better for cheaper or coach up the CB's we currently have now.
