Match review ed?

{Ed001's Note - a proper match of two halves. While we started off brightly in the opening seconds of the first half, we seemed to lose focus and struggled against Swansea's tactical set up. Guidolin had them set up right and we let in yet another silly goal. Swansea bossed the first half and we were well off the pace, even after Lallana went off injured and was replaced by Sturridge. It was a real struggle and we failed to create anything of note. It was one of those games that has you thinking 'here we go again', as we have seen only too often how we throw away points.

Happily, this season is different, Klopp has instilled some heart and desire. The second half was totally different and we looked like the side that has been winning all those plaudits this season. Everyone was more focused and the quick interchanges, that were so conspicious by their absence in the first half, were there throughout the second half. Gradually we took over the game and managed to pick up yet another win, to lift us up the table and put pressure on Citeh.

Overall, we just about deserved the win, as Swans faded badly in the second half and we took control. I have to say, I personally prefer the balance with Studger up top and Couts playing the deeper role. I think that we look more dangerous playing that way.

In this match, the MOM has to go to Klopp, as he lifted the team after a lacklustre first half and got them up for the second. Though Firmino ran him close, it was just some of the things he tried never quite came off. Watching him on the ball is a delight at times.}

Hey Ed,

Would like to know your thoughts on Wijnaldum today. Personally thought he was quietly effective in the second half and beginning to make an impact in our overall play.

Matt.

{Ed001's Note - first half he was totally out of the game (like most of our side), the second half he picked up a lot and was involved in everything that happened. He was breaking up their play a fair bit as well.}

Have to agree with the coutinho bit, been saying our midfield should coutinho Hendo can (now lallana is out) then firmino mane and a striker be it origi or Sturridge.

Are you saying sturridge looked good at any point today? Or have I misunderstood ed? He was rubbish.

{Ed001's Note - ah so you have decided to pick on him for abuse today then? Only he was far from rubbish. Not his best game, but he kept their defence occupied, linked up well and gave us an outlet.}

Spot on, Ed. Swansea set up in a way to first of all press in certain areas in the first half which made us severely uncomfortable and very predictable. The showed immensely when our passing precision was poor hence, getting caught offside for literally no reason. Is this the way teams will set up vs us on the road going forward? We shall see. We also made poor decisions in both the first and part of the second half in the final third which almost cost us the game as we were rushing the final pass during a period where we had the Swans in a choke hold. Luckily, Klopp's coaching and the steel he's given the team made sure that we finished strong and won the game even tho we got lucky with their final chance. I agree that Couts was brilliant in deep midfield and should be playing there more regularly.

Ed I have to say I wasn't impressed with studge today, not placing blame on him or singling him out purposely, but while he may have kept there defence busy he didn't actually cause any danger to them and was holding onto the ball far too long. poor game from his standards inmy opinion, anyone could have kept there defence busy but u have to pose a threat also and I don't think he did. cheers.

{Ed001's Note - his job is to link play, he did that and got back in to cover when Clyne got caught upfield at one point. Studge gets unfair criticism because people expect so much of him, in my opinion.}

sturridge had the chances old sturidge would have scored. I think he's just got to get used to klopps style of play. he's not used to putting in all that energy and finds himself miskicking alot. I can imagine his confidence has gotten a bit low too. he's still a good a player and reads the game well but I don't know if sturridge will fully adapt. I think if he doesn't click this season, he's best going to a team that will play to his strengths like benteke. sturridge is probably best coming on at 60 mins right now untill he can manage more minutes.

I think there is a lot more to come from Sturridge
But I get the impression that in the past he had to be loved and made a fuss over.
Thats obviously not the Klopp way.
So it up to him like all the team to make himself un drppable by performing on the pitch.
Look at Firmino for an example. Class.

If Sturridge isn't scoring goals then the poor lad gets abused. All he needs to do is crack a little frown and all of the 'fans' are onto him with the abuse and speculation about his future at liverpool.
