Hey all bit of a weird question here, when you see a footballer that you like in the streets, you know just walking or shopping whatever, going about their personal life, is it bad manners for me/ you to go up to that footballer and say 'hey x I'm a huge fan can I get a picture with you? ' I'm really not sure lol if it's frowned upon or not.

Depends on the footballer.
Met loads over the years, most have been fine with a chat.
Avoid sakho and Gerrard at all costs though, sakho will just give you the evil eyes and Gerrard will either pretend to be nice (but not pretend very hard) or just be openly hostile.
Rooney is a nice lad and Ronaldo is the biggest poser ever, but is nice enough.
Managers always seem to be nice and open for a chat.

As long as you're quick and don't take 10 pictures trying to get the right angle etc I believe you should go get a picture you might never have the opportunity again regardless of what they're doing. One of my biggest regrets is walking past King Kenny in the corridor at white hart lane literally all I did was bow with my hands in the air.

I met the king about 7 years ago. I was too star struck to pester him as much as I wanted to haha.

When the squad were staying down the Vale Resort before the 2001 FA Cup final in Cardiff, there were a few that were untouchable. You couldn't get close to Gerrard or Owen, yet Fowler, Hyypia, Gmac and Phil Thompson were out for hours signing and taking photos.

I once met Ian Rush in a pub in Singapore. I was so star struck when I saw him that I asked for an autograph without having anything for him to sign. In a panic I asked if he could sign my phone case instead! He obliged but it rubbed off very quickly. He seemed like a genuinely nice bloke though. Seemed to bloody love a pint or two as well!

Red Sandman.

Met Gerrard in a bar in Liverpool 1o years ago, maybe a bit more. Brought him a bottle of beer, seemed nice enough, maybe a bit reserved. Was at a party years ago after Rangers won the League cup in the Souness era. McCoist, Durrant and Ian Ferguson really dead on people, down to earth as were most of the Scottish players. Terry Butcher was ok, Chris Wood was a complete knob. The best player i have met was Dwight Yorke in a bar in Dublin. Brought him and his mate a beer and he spent the next lot of hours in our company. Really nice bloke, just comes across as he does on Tv. Met Rushie and Barnes etc years ago in a night club in Belfast after a pre season game, they looked pissed and a bit aloof if i'm honest. Might have been the drink tho.

Tough one. I would say a selfie but make sure you don't blink as you can only ask once.

Ideally start a conversation first before asking. Try and make the conversation real.

Last footballer I saw was Arsenal's Callum Chambers and my son pointed him out and I said it wasn't him. My opening line was "you're not Callum Chambere are you? " and he answered "actually I am". I still cringe when I think about it.

I got a good pic of him with my son though.

I met Robbie Fowler in Perth and was clueless as what to say after 'Hi Robbie'. Bloody nice chap though - he managed to keep the convo going on his own 😂.

You must of caught sakho on a bad day ;) , I have him on snapchat and he is always stopping and signing autographs, a very nice guy.

Met coutinho and he was a very nice and polite guy, who I don't think understands scouse at all! Joe cole and carragher were both really cool, Owen and Johnson were both fairly rude. But tbf suppose it can get annoying being asked for pictures etc.

Packing my car to go home, I seen Rafa. I shouted over " hey raff, good to see ya mate! "., he gave me a little wink and laughed. Then, I still don't know why, but I shouted him again. when he looked over I bowed down to him. (I know, saddo! ) . He laughed and give us a wink. he must have thought ' who's this weirdo in painters overalls?! But hey, I don't care. He got us a champions league.

I met Sakho and he was lovely, but I know that when he's doing charity appearances he won't acknowledge anyone else whose not involved which is fair enough.

I see it as a balance - if they are clearly trying to enjoy quiet time with their family (like in the middle of eating with them, or having a laugh with their kids etc) then leave alone or see if you can grab them when they aren't doing other things. But otherwise its worth remembering that everything they have in life only exists because of their fans, a quick picture isn't much to ask.

Smplfc, I was at The Vale after the cup final too. I remember Henchoz, Smicer and Barmby being really chatty. God and Heskey were pretty good and Houllier was happy to talk for ages. Got loads of great pics! Couldn't get near Owen or Gerrard though.

Craig Johnston was a stand out for me. I was just a wee kiddie and he happily kicked the ball around with us and told us that we had to support Liverpool from now on. So I did :)
