Quick question Ed's.
Which player were you really excited about joining Liverpool but never lived up to your expectations?
Also which player came to Liverpool with no fuss but turned out to be a star?

Probably, for me, kewell and Hyypia.

{Ed001's Note - Jari Litmanen, he never got a chance to show what he could do.
Steve Finnan, he just got better and better and became one of my all time favourite players.}

I remember watching litmanen in one game at anfield and thought sheesh this guy is brilliant - - then he was gone! Did he get injured or just didn't get on with manager or what happened to end his Liverpool time?

Total agree with ed . Houllier was more the defensive minded. So frustrating about litmanen . And I loved finnan.

Fernando Morientes - what a let down!

Ryan Babel was a disappointment, he showed flashes but all to rarely.

Mark gonzeles. Quick but that's it!

I loved finnan, he'd get a rating of 8 or more every week.

Harry Kewel. What a let down.

Joe Cole - like milner I thought he'd be a decent freebie. Sadly both will end up costing WAY more than they'll contribute.
Big Sami was our bargain.
Loved Vlad - if only for 2005 and the lovely stuff he's said about the club years later.

Hyppia and Riera for me. Never heard of Hyppia until he played for us. He was a beast. So was Finnan. Riera I thought, would be a good signing but alas, was a flop who showed no desire and drive in his game. Had a few good perf but that was it.

Last defender that could defend finnan Edd001.

Morientes was the biggest disappointment. Bought for a modest fee. He was the most deadliest striker in air.

Kewel is another name. Followed him since the glory days at Leeds. He was fantastic talent ( what a team were Leeds back then ) .

Titi camara, I remember thinking who the hell is he?

Aquilani and then either Riise or Alonso.

EMS will be balotelli :)

Morientes, Collymore and Kewell spring to mind as disappointing signings due to their contribution.

I really liked Hypia, Alonso was a steal at £10 million and I didn't really know much about him personally. And finally Patrik Berger.

{Ed001's Note - I remember Alonso as a huge signing, but that could just be because Toshack had raved about him continually for years beforehand. Paddy Berger was a big signing as it was after he had starred at Euro 96 and half the female population of the country were swooning over him. Especially me mam.}

haha I was just going off my own personal knowledge 001,I hadn't heard much of Alonso but when I first saw him in action I was gobsmacked. I knew Berger had a good euros, but I wasn't aware of who he was before hand or how good he was at club level. I look back on it thinking he could have been a diao, diouf, poborsky, but he was a superstar (in my young eyes at the time)
