Klopp mentioned success as being relative to fans expectations. I wonder what fans expectations are for a 3 year tenure? Personally i think to get champions league next year you have to challenge for the title. This idea of playing for 4th is a failure to start, you have to aim to win every game and maybe you fail a few times but you end up fighting for top spot unless a team runs away with it. There isn't a team that's looked like running away with it this season so far especially as Aguero seems unable to stay fit for any period of time. So success is challenging this season and putting out a team that can compete with other CL teams next season. That quality of team will win a trophy (of some form) in 3 years. that's my interpretation at least.

{Ed001's Note - it will probably require a top 3 soon enough to qualify anyway.}

Hi ed001 just wondering is there any sound information on this topic of top 3 getting champions league I.e timelines etc? Also is this as a result of people in football thinking the BPL has dropped in standards?

{Ed001's Note - sound information? It is the UEFA rules for the competition, England's ranking has dropped and could lead to this being the last season of 4 qualifiers for the Champions League, unless the current bunch do a bit better than the usual.}

Yeah I worded that poorly ed001, hate typing on a phone but you answered exactly what I was thinking. I just wasn't up to date on when any of this could potentially happen. So thanks for the update as usual and for all the information you guys provide us with

{Ed002's Note - The owners crave immediate success - they have invested year-on-year, plunged the club in to significant debt and now employed Klopp to make it happen because Rodgers couldn't. I read the scripts from Werner's two statements and he has made it clear that the owners are pissed that they have had no on field success and he expects the players they club has to respond better to Klipperty. They will be looking for an immediate improvement.}

Haha, slightly off topic ed002. I was only asking about the general situation with th BPL only getting three spots in the champs league. But I definitely agree and can see what you mean. They really have poured a lot of money into tho club, whether wisely or not I guess we can debate (unwisely) but the mind has to wonder why they let Rodgers spend so much? I mean at what point did the doubt set in? Obviously they let him spend again this summer. It's either odd or just plain stupid. Anyway let's get back to a happy topic like having a fantastic new manager. Just hope the BPL and English media and fans let him be and he can hack the unnecessary pressure of managing Liverpool, where everyone says "yes let's give him a few seasons to get his stuff together" and then after a few bad results become reminiscent of the 80s and say we should be winning every year and then he gets sacked.

{Ed002's Note - It seems unlikely to be an issue for 2016/17. Dropping to three places for next season will require the four English CL sides to do collectively significantly worse than the two Italian sides (worse plus four whole points). The four point differential gets wiped out at the end of next season so then it will become more significant.}

Oh ok I see thanks for the informative reply ed002, appreciate it. That's why I love the site, besides having a moan and stating the obvious as posters we can rely on you guys to explain the finer things in football.
