With the tendency of rodgers to play players out of position, I have been thinking, had this ever worked? I know younger players may get moved from centre back to full back or winger to full back for instance.
I know torres was a goaly in his youth, but I can't think of anyone over 23 or so who moved positions and excelled. Maybe schweinsteiger from rm to cm? But again that's not too uncommon as a player gains experience.

{Ed001's Note - Lahm?}

I don't think it is so much 'changing' positions, more being comfortable playing in several different positions. Most modern day full backs are probably comfortable as wingers. And saying that, didn't Bale start as a left back?

One for Ed001 - Paul Stewart was initially a striker and then he moved to central midfield and 'excelled'. :-)

Seriously though : Carragher was initially a striker in his youth then moved to midfield on his debut and ended up excelling as a central defender.

{Ed001's Note - Paul Stewart could have played anywhere and still you would have been wondering 'what position is he playing?', he was just that skilled. I never once figured out exactly what he was meant to be doing, though he did once call me a rude word when I asked him after he clattered into the hoardings by me. I thought it was a perfectly reasonable question, but then I was only a kid and didn't realise then that he didn't have a clue either.}

i think david alaba plays centrally when playing for austria and griezmann playing striker for atletico this year. Rooney from striker to midfield, bale from left back. Zanetti could basically play anywhere back in his Inter days. Javi martinez from CDM to CB at bayern. Pretty sure Chelsea bought ivanovic initially as a CB. I also felt dirk kuyt adapted quite well to the right wing position

Yaya Toure was considered a top DM when travelling from club to club in Europe,ended up at centreback at Barca before than going on to play a box to box (attacking minded mid) at City where he did rather well.
Ledley king originally started as a striker from interviews I've seen surrounding his playing ability before moving to centreback (probs due to his injuries) Demba Ba when trying out at teams inf rance started as a centreback before he was told to play up top.
Thierry as we all know started as a winger before Arsene made him a centre forward. Milner is pretty adaptable from winger to centreforward to midfield throughout his career.
Many others have already mentioned Bale and Dublin.

i know this guy didn't play for liverpool but for Lothar Matthäus was a world class midfeilder and then reinvented himself as he got older to a world class libero/sweeper

Lahm is the best call yet! All the others didn't really change like I explained! My point was though, it doesn't ever really work rodgers!

Carragher played centre midfield left back right back an finished as a quality centre half, also dirk didn't do too bad as a right winger after playing centre forward in Holland
