Just been thinking on the transfer committee front. If it's just aload of Rodgers sat there then there isn't much point is there? For me you need one guy running transfers, then you know who to boot put the door when it goes wrong.

Exactly! The committee was a calamity and should be scrapped. However as the Eds have said, Rodgers is part of said committee and he has the power to stop transfers he does not want hence, the idea and excuse people give that the committee dictates to him who comes in, is ludicrous and unfounded. Then, again I don't blame them for that because he never takes responsibility for anything so I can see why they might think he has no control.

The committee was supposed to filter out the crap signings from the good ones.
Has it worked?
No.
Who is responsible.
FSG and Rodgers collectively in my opinion.

Jonny

At the end of the day, our committee had a shortlist containing the likes of Costa, Mkhitaryan, Willian, Sanchez, Remy, Bertrand, Huntelaar etc etc. Just saying so it is not like they were not scouting players that bwere wanted by other clubs.

At the end of the day, Rodgers had the last say and could have said yes to Remy instead of Balotelli. How on earth can FSG be held accountable for decisions on transfers?

They can be held accountable for appointing Rodgers but not the decisions Rodgers has made and is exactly why FSG will be sacking Rodgers. At least FSG will be learning from their mistakes by getting rid of Rodgers. If they keep him as manager then yes, they need to be hold accountable for not trying to fic a failed plan.

Max I see your point.
Unfortunately we are not party to why we bought the players we did.
Balotelli was always going to be a gamble given his attitude.
That gamble did not work.
His transfer smacked of the moneyball philosphy in my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - how on earth is it anything to do with moneyball? That makes no sense.}

You failed again, Johnny. The owners don't pick the players and based on the Eds info (if you have better, more accurate info on this issue, please share. If not, keep it moving), he signs off on any signings and he said himself, "no player will come in here that the manager doesn't want". He said that in May. If all you have are opinions, save them. If you have facts to debunk those I posted, I'm listening.

We should have taken into account more than just the player's stats.
Looking at Balotelli from a stats point of view he is not a bad signing for the price we purchased him for.
But we all know that there is so much baggage to consider other than the player's ability.
That is the point I was making in reference to Moneyball.
You don't just look at a player's price to stats ratio.
There are many more things to consider.
Why have I failed again Red?
In your world the owners don't do much.
Which begs the question "why spend so much money on buying the club in the first place if they are not going to make sure that every decision made is scrutinized from the very top down?

I agree the Mario signing seemed like a moneyball signing to me too. I don't agree that every decision should be examined either. we already seem to drag our feet when trying to sign players!
