Being reported this morning that Atletico Madrid have held talks with Nunez, who has ‘made it clear’ he wants to pursue a switch to La Liga. It is further suggested that everything has been agreed from the striker’s perspective, with a deal still to be discussed with Liverpool.

So No saudi money then.

Always felt he'd end up in an Atletico shirt for some reason.

It’s part of the Alvarez deal.
Sources I’m hearing said trust me bro.

Should have sold to Saudi in January. Atletico will lowball us.
5.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 15:32:14
Everyone keeps mentioning Saudi money. You are aware the player decides where he wishes to go and play football.
Can't win! People moan about the money, then moan twice as hard if he stays and runs down his contract.
6.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 15:37:46
Why is everyone pining for Saudi money, exactly?
7.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 16:04:04
Babbitty, you mean Jan 25 when Nunez scored the two vital injury time goals against Brentford and a pivotal part of the season?
Smart.

21 May 2025 16:32:50
It's embarrassing seeing our fans twerking for Saudi money. So what if he stayed another 6 months, scored a couple of goals and moves to Spain for a bit less money.
9.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 16:32:59
@OliRed
Because the Saudis pay more. At least, that's how I see it. It's about getting paid more money than he's worth and signing a better replacement.
10.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 16:37:57
Why0why we won the league with four games to spare. The Brentford game was the only game he materially contributed since January. So, yeah, it would have been smart to take the £70m on offer when he was willing to go to Saudi. Atletico probably won't offer half of that. Thanks for the compliment.
11.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 16:58:24
Thunderbird what on earth is embarrassing about it? We wouldn't have been able to sign all four of Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Endo without Saudi money. We are a self-sufficient club. The more money we make on player sales, the more money we have to improve the squad.
12.) 21 May 2025

But that happened at a very important time in the season. It made sure we remained ahead of Arsenal when they had a chance to catch up.
It has been referenced multiple times as our most important victory of the season and Darwin won it for us.
We don’t have a multiverse were we can see what would’ve happened had we dropped those points, I for one am happy we had Darwin, got the win which knocked the stuffing out of Arsenal.

Extra detail.
This was match week 22.
Had we drawn, Arsenal played Villa at 17:30
We won, they drew.
This left us 7 points clear. If we drew that would’ve given Arsenal a boost pre-Villa. Two goals after 90 minutes was a massive blow. Has they beaten Villa at the Emirates and we’d draw …. we’d have both played 22 games and there would’ve been three points between us.
Darwin won it, this never happened. After this, we never looked back, they never got close again.
14.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 17:11:55
I think you're making too much of the butterfly effect to be honest, Why0why. We've always been the better team this season. Arsenal were riding their luck with results and completely fell apart after their injury crisis. We could have even sold him after the Brentford game.
15.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 17:20:49
Okay then babbity, in your estimation Darwin did nothing to help us win the title this year because without those two goals we would have won it anyway.
16.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 17:54:25
Yes Patrik, without Nunez's two goals at Brentford, we would have won the league anyway.
17.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 18:07:28
So a 3 point gap late January as opposed to a seven point gap might not have affected how the season played out?
Gotcha.
Fictional Saudi money better than actual winning goals. I’m certain that makes sense to some.
18.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 18:12:37
To respond to the "Saudi money" post, I think most "smart" players have now learned that going to Saudi is going to oblivion never to be heard from again. Unless cashing in is the players goal.
19.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 19:09:23
Why0why how do you go from a 3 point gap to a 7 seven gap with one loss? There was nothing fictional about the Saudi bid. The only thing fictional here is the butterfly effect chain of events you've come up with.
20.) 21 May 2025

On the subject of Nunez and Athletico ‘ low balling’ us - can I ask is it mandatory that we accept their first offer?
On the subject of ‘Saudi money’. Who said they aren’t going to make an offer? Just because a club in Spain may be considering making an offer doesn’t mean clubs elsewhere can’t or won’t.
For a few years on here it seems that there is a general feeling that our offers are never going to be accepted but that we jump at the first offer anybody makes for our players.
21.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 19:27:20
So. If we drew in the afternoon (as I have already detailed) that would’ve given Arsenal a boost for the 17:30 game v Villa at the Emirates (as I have already detailed.
We lose two points.
They gain two points.
That’s a four point swing.
Seven minus four = three.
As I have already detailed.
22.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 19:57:49
We won the league with 4 games to go, let’s not re-write history and say Nunez won us the league.
What about his open goal against Villa near the end of the drawn game which he smashed into row Z?
He played his part, of course he did, but let’s keep it in perspective eh?
23.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 19:38:28
Why0why, I agree with you on this topic. It was not wise to sell Nunez mid-season and possibly disrupt our flow. His goals (however few) were worth more to us as fans than Oil money if they even remotely contributed towards number 20!
However I have to ask mate, why are your replies so patronising and rude every time you wade in on any debate, of late? You’re coming across as a bit arrogant mate and I didn’t have you pegged for that kind of bloke. You do you, but the purpose of this site is for like minded people to come together and have great conversations about football, and people will just choose not to engage with you if your snide replies become the norm.

Watch Darwin goto Athleti and become a world beater . Simeone and the environment will get the best out of him.

21 May 2025 21:14:43
My-Oh-My,
As this is a banter site, I would say man city0-LFC2 on the 23rd of February was the turning point, beating the ex premier league champions, who had just won four premiers on the trot.
Spurs 1-0 half time, they say the best time to score a goal is just before half time, let's all hope that's a turning point!
26.) 21 May 2025
21 May 2025 21:22:31
I so wanted Nunez to come good but it seems unlikely for whatever reason. If he goes I wish him well (and hope we can clawback at least £50m for him)!

MK Scouser - it’s because people used to be able to think.
Liverpool fans used to be knowledgeable and understand the game.
They used to appreciate what they had.
They used to be loyal.
They used to be cultured in their appreciation of who we are as a club and how we operate.
Now I see transfer obsessed children who demand players like shiny new toys, live in an absolute fantasy world regarding who we can actually go for and have no respect for the players who win us titles.
Someone said Pedro was a like for like with Firmino. I find that deeply disrespectful of a proper club legend.
The incessant desire for transfer gratification is a genuinely unpleasant facet of our online fanbase. It’s frankly embarrassing.

Why0why I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you over your last post so I'm not going to address your ad hominems. What I will say is there is no basis to suggest Arsenal will have won just because we lost and, even if they had, they would have lost the league anyway.
