Hi Eds, anything in the increasing links to Isak or is it just journo noise? If there is anything can you see something happening there?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - unless he requests a transfer it is probably best to forget about him.}

Do you know if he’s settled at Newcastle Ed? Or if he would be actively seeking a move to a “bigger” club? I guess Cunha wouldn’t be a bad alternative if Isak was unattainable. Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - he seems very happy mate.}

Most stories seem to caveat if it with ‘if they don’t qualify for the Champions League’. If they do, he will be happy to stay and it would be a non starter for anybody.

I hope Hughes and co do homework on this we can’t afford all eggs to go in one basket and come away empty handed. “IF” we are interested need to quickly establish if Isak is interested and if Newcastle will sell/ how much he will cost.
We cannot afford to dither, if he’s the top target then it will need a lot of pieces to fall into place quickly to pull off.
Personally would love him at LFC but can’t see it happening, I’d rather activate Cunha’s release clause and get him snapped up quickly to avoid losing him to Arsenal or someone else and then having no option for us. That frees up about £70m to invest in high quality players elsewhere in squad.

I like Isak as a finisher but Cunha does more with the ball.

I couldn’t care less if Cunha turns the ball into wine, Isak is in another galaxy.

Turning the ball into wine would be of limited use on a football pitch tbf.

I don't really get the clamour for isak, unless mo is leaving. Mo is the focus of our attack, and he's given the license to stay furthest up the field and be ready for when we win the ball back. If isak were to come he would assume that role because he doesn't really do anything out of possession anyway. So we're assuming that we'll want to get the ball to him in and around the box rather than mo, which just doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

Cunha on the other hand works hard off the ball, links up well with others, drops deep and looks to get involved anywhere from the halfway line to the opposition box. He is also the focal point of the wolves attack and probably has to learn how to do more with less touches in our system as well as make lots of dummy runs on top of having to press and defend, but in terms of skill set, aggression, mentality he looks every bit a Liverpool player, he is an all action attacking player who always looks to affect the game in ways beyond scoring.

You can say that isak is a 'better' player than cunha and undoubtedly he is probably the best striker in the world right now. The question is who would be the best fit for how we want to play. It's the same with hato, who might not be the 'best' left back in the world but is quite visibly the most appropriate target for our system (and who has massive upside at his age and potential coachability) . Also Cunha is on an upward trajectory and could very well prove to be one of the best attacking players in world football with us, who knows how he would develop with better players around him?

01 Mar 2025 06:25:43
Turning the ball into wine maybe useless but if he could turn the ball into white powder, I'm sure a few refs would be interested ;)

But in all seriousness, I agree with what PB wrote. Cunha seems like a better fit for the way we play compared to Isak.

9.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 08:29:41
Cunha’s play reminds me a lot of Suarez. He’d be my top target. If Isak is available and it’s not for crazy money then pull the trigger.

10.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 09:17:31
Can't see us going for isak at the amount of money he will cost. If we only needed 1 signing this summer I could see us doing it but we need at least 3 new players and that's with the 3 out of contract lads staying.

PatrikBurgher -The voice of reason, rather than just thinking 'GOALS'.
Isak is so not an FSG/ Edwards signing, Cunha and Hato are.

12.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 10:48:16
Don't know why people are saying isak does nothing but score. The guys all over the pitch, starting moves. Such a good player. Cunha is brilliant too though. Take them both eh. Could Cunha play where Diaz plays?

13.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 13:53:46
I must have dreamt Diaz and Gakpo scoring their goals this season.

We make out like Salah stands in all the other forwards positions and pinches their chances.

The old if we had a centre forward who scored then Salah wouldn’t is nonsense. Jota and Nunez have had lots of chances this season and if more clinical would both be on far more goals.

Haaland is always used as an example and he banged in 38 goals which did indeed restrict the other forwards at City because Foden only managed a measly 27 goals and Alvarez 19.

14.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 14:00:01
I don't think it's a matter of who will score the goals, but who will get the touches in and around the box. Mo is the focus of our attack, he is the one our midfielders look for in transition and he is the one with the least defensive responsibilities in our side. Can we afford to add a player who doesn't have to do much off the ball for his team if mo is to continue playing this role for the team? Will isak be able to do all the thankless work that a number 9 does in slot's system? Diaz and gakpo have to do a hell of a lot defensively for this team, to cite your examples.

15.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 14:02:04
Also is isak worth double what cunha would cost? Are we so sure he'd score double the goals or have double the goal contributions? I'm not so convinced that would be the case, and we're not starved for goals either, sure it would be great for our number 9 to put chances away regularly but slot has shown that he needs the 9 to do a job for the team in a very specific way as well.

16.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 14:14:58
Patrik always enjoy discussing with you mate.

As it stands we don’t know if Salah will even be here next season.

I honestly believe we attack from all over the pitch be it the right, left or even the centre. We seem to be the complete team.

Salah is just so clinical and also on Pens.

17.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 15:01:57
Cunha to me seems the obvious better fit in our team over Isak. Cunha with Gakpo and Salah either side gives me mane, Firmino, Salah vibes.

18.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 16:09:42
It’s the Brighton centre forward we’re constantly being linked with, he maybe the one with the most potential. Although I like Cunha there haven’t been that many links to us.

19.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 16:35:20
Cunha just scored a screamer against Bournemouth.

20.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 18:39:56
Cunha seems to be morphing into Cantona. A hard-working genius, but prone to blowing every fuse ince or twice a year. He’s going to face a long ban, but I’d still take him (as I wish we had done with Cantona) .

21.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 20:09:40
The Haaland 38 goal example is always funny to me cause they scored less goals that season than the season before.

22.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 20:32:12
Look at what Cunha is doing in a poor Wolves team, put him in a Liverpool or Newcastle team and I’m sure his numbers improve too! I’d love either and if Money wasn’t an issue I would go for Isaak but I don’t see the value in Isaak at the fees being thrown about!

23.) 01 Mar 2025
01 Mar 2025 20:37:07
Cunha living up to my Suarez comparison.

At least he stuck one on that Man U supporting clown Kerkez.

24.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 06:56:04
Does it really matter who the press says we are after, jordansimon? Surely the recruitment team already have an idea who fits us the best, and if we as fans can see that Cunha fits the bill in terms of overall skillset and value in terms of price, then they certainly will have him high up the list as well. They love buying a player with a release clause too, just means we can get it done quickly if the player is keen. He is definitely going to move this summer and we have to be one of the teams in for him, he ticks all the boxes and most significantly it's a deal that can be done fast. Slot even went out of his way to mention him lately, so .

João Pedro is an okay player, is younger and will continue to improve but probably costs more and cunha is twice the player he is at present I think.

25.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 08:53:35
Cunha looks like a great fit and if he’s £50 mill cheaper (based on rumours) also the fact we know he is available with his clause I know who I would rather we chase, instead of wasting a summer going after Isaak and it doesn’t materialise.
I wiuld presume Nunez is likely to leave, such a shame as would love for him to have worked out. He’s still a young lad and it may be as much as he’s struggling to adapt to life in uk, which is then effecting on field performances as I would expect him to be a success at his next club. Would love Diaz to stay due to his versatility, jota unfortunately is just made of glass. But even if we kept all the same front players would keep us in good stead for next season. Most important for me is we add another midfielder to cope with game management and a left back.

26.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 09:09:44
Alvy in the league or overall?

27.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 09:28:39
Haaland scored 52 goals that season and Alvarez 17, foden 15, mahrez 15, Gundogen 11 and KDB 10.

That’s 68 goals that Haaland didn’t get in the way of his other team mates to steal their chances.

28.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 13:54:34
Except haaland doesn't get involved in overall play, doesn't have off the ball responsibilities, isn't a shot creator and just exists to finish chances in the box. Alvarez on the other hand is one of the best in the world at holding the ball up, keeping possession and getting others involved. If the haaland role is what you want isak to do then fine, but he is very involved with everything in and around the box for Newcastle. Also drawing a parallel to mo isn't exactly accurate because mo isn't simply given the ball to score, he engages two or three defenders on his own and creates constantly for himself and others.

My point in the end is that every team needs their 9 to do different things according to the balance of the rest of the team. If mo goes then maybe we can have somebody come in to be the axis of the attack and more importantly not have to do the onerous tireless dummy running, defensive and off the ball work that mo is excused from.

29.) 02 Mar 2025
02 Mar 2025 15:17:56
Patrick respect your opinion mate and think you’re debating with me on something I’m not trying to
Say.

My haaland refrence is only based on the argument that a more clinical centre forward won’t steal Mo’s goals.

Salah can 100% play with a more complete centre forward or did I just imagine the Bobby firmino years.

Well this from Isak today:
“I’m very grateful for my time at Newcastle. It’s been an incredible journey, proved I can be an asset to any top team in Europe. My main goal is to win the UCL, if not here, at a club in England with a special history in Europe. ”.

JK23 in 21-22 Man City scored 99 goals in the league for a total of 150 in 58 games.

In 22-23 Man City scored 94 goals in the league for a total of 151 in 61 games.

In 23-24 Man City scored 96 goals in the league for a total of 149 in 59 games.

Cheers Alvy mate.

Haaland didn’t score them all though. Which was the point i was trying to raise mate.

Any chance of getting how many we scored in those same seasons mate if it doesn’t put you out too much.

35.) 04 Mar 2025
04 Mar 2025 07:19:16
I get you JK, the point I was trying to raise is that adding Haaland didn't actually add them any goals, it just ended up being different people taking the chances. If I didn't make it clear, he joined them for the 22-23 season.

In 21-22, Liverpool scored 94 league goals for a total of 147 in 63 games

In 22-23, Liverpool scored 75 league goals for a total of 103 in 52 games.

In 23-24, Liverpool scored 86 league goals for a total of 142 in 58 games.
