Anyone understand the play off draw why have city got Madrid or Bayern seem to make it more confusing. I I thought it was 9th vs 24th 10th vs 23rd.

Is confusing but i will try to help. Think that they put the teams in groups of two (9th and 10th, 11th and 12th, and so on until 23rd and 24th) .

After that, the draw will determine who plays against who from the opposite group (for example, the 9th could play the 23rd or 24th, whoever doesn't get picked then plays the 10th, and so on) .

This style is similar to how tennis brackets are set up. I personally don't like it because it is normally complicated, and I'm telling you this as a tennis fan.

I kind of get it.

Only because 9th and 10th have been used as an example I suppose it’s to stop 9th throwing their last game to finish 10th on purpose or 10th not trying to finish 9th because it looks on paper that 23rd is a easier tie than 24th would be.

Exactly JK23. I like that it’s a draw and isn’t it nice city have the chance of either Bayern or Real. We will get either the winner of Monaco and Brest or PSG and Benfica. There is nothing stopping you drawing a team you have already played or a team from the same nation either I believe.

So just to clarify, Teams finishing between ninth and 16th in the league will be seeded for the play-off round.

They will face an unseeded team that finished between 17th and 24th in the table - with the seeded team also having the benefit of playing the second leg at home.

Sides will also be paired together in the draw, meaning that the two sides who finished ninth and 10th will be drawn against either the 23rd or 24th placed sides.

Teams who finished 11th and 12th will be drawn against either the 21st or 22nd-placed sides, and so on.

The eight winners from the play-offs will meet the teams who finished in the top eight from the initial league phase in the last-16, where the familiar theme of knockout rounds will run all the way to the final.
