Kostas was clearly a weak link in the team. Why have we held onto him for so long? Is it because he’s happy as back up or partly due to keeping salah happy as they are best pals. Have we been watching any Lb’s recently or do you know if slot has a preferred option? Cheers YNWA.
{Ed002's Note - Liverpool watch players throughout the year but there are priorities that need to be dealt with first.}

I imagine the left back position will be shortly on the priority list due to Robbos age and Kostas probably not going to be anymore than a back up.

Kostas takes a few games to get going can’t judge anyone who starts once every 10 games or so.

Thats true scouce john, but Tsimikas is a midtable premier league player at best imo, don't you agree?

I disagree. He’s on a team that has fought for trophies year in and year out and never has he finished mid table. He’s a good back up.

he is never going to be in the conversation of world class players but Tsimikas works hard, seems to be well liked by his team mates and doesn't cause problems. so i wouldn't rush to sell him - particularly as there doesn't seem to be anyone queuing up to take his spot. We need to sort out VVD first IMO but i def can see the club looking for someone to come in and phase out Robbo or him next year.

Maybe I'm the odd one out but I like Tsimikas. Of course he's not as good as Robbo but he's a very decent backup for us. Apart from his first year which I recall was horrible, but he did improve and I would say most of the time he does enough when he's called to fill in for Robbo. Would you rather have Moreno over Tsimikas? I think Tsimikas is better than Moreno. However, if there's a special LB available, then maybe we need to look into that. Otherwise, we shouldn't be looking to boot Tsimikas out.
{Ed025's Note - for me DAP he is a decent enough back up but not a first team starter, seems to me like a really nice guy who is well liked and has a very good team ethic but he does lack concentration at times so can be a liability mate..

That right there is the issue Ed025 but I think too many of our fans have been sucked in by Klopp's loyalty down the years and have forgotten the ruthlessness required to win titles. Robbo is getting to the point where he can't sprint up and down like a Duracell bunny for 90 minutes twice a week. He also seems to be picking up more injuries in the last 2 seasons than he did previously. So we're going to become increasingly reliant on Tsimikas over the next few years if we stick with what we've got.
Due to Robbo's inevitable decline looming on the horizon, I think we now need more than just a hard working back up who won't make a fuss. For me it's time Robertson was phased into being that back up option, and a new first choice option is signed. I love Tsimikas to the extent I even have a Greece shirt with his name on the back! One of my best memories as a Liverpool fan is celebrating his winning penalty in the FA Cup final whilst I was sat in a bar in Lisbon getting sloshed with loads of random Liverpool fans from all over Europe. But I'm also a realist and it feels like to move forward we need a new starting left back now. There's no point having 3 senior left backs though, and in a shoot-out between keeping Robbo or Tsimikas, there's only one winner.
{Ed025's Note - yeah MK its not easy to lose players who have been committed and been stalwarts for the club, but the game moves on im afraid mate and when players regress they have to be replaced..thats just a fact of life..

I think he's fine as a back-up, it's only really an issue coming into the new couple years given Robbos age, we don't want to rely on Tsimikas starting week in week out. I'd focus on bringing in someone who can replace Robbo and then give the back up spot to someone like Chambers who has been really good on loan and is probably more suited to the new role at LB sitting back in a 3 because he's also played CB.

Tsimikas was bought as a back up and has done the job well. He’s never let us down as far as I can recall. There was discussion about signing a LCB / LB in the recent window but that discussion was overshadowed by general concerns about the need for us to sign a DCM ‘destroyer’, without whom we would be ‘doomed, doomed I tell ye’ to quote Pte Frazer.
An LCB not withstanding, I think we have a number of youngsters auditioning for a step up into the first team squad as a LB - Beck, Chambers and Scanlon. I think there are likely other areas the need addressing first.
I’d say we will need at least one CB possibly two if Joey leaves which - without any proof on my part - I think he will.
I think we need a right sided attacker to either replace Mo or to challenge Chiesa for a starting place if FC is seen as the Mo replacement.
I also think we need a genuine world class CF. Neither Jota or Nunez are a medium / long term solution. As I say I prefer Jota, of the two we currently have. I’m not sure I understand the idea that Nunez should be given a go. Surely if he was good enough he would have been a regular starter by now.
Anyway, I think a CF should be our priority but I suspect CB may be the club’s focus.
Oh yes, and we might need a DCM …….

I was going to say that I see Jota and Nunez as a back up to a new CF as Tximi is to Robbo for the LB spot. If it were me and we bought a CF, I’d keep Jota and try an$ recoup some of the money we spent on Nunez.

I don't.

Eds, Florian Wirtz seems to be the next shiny player to be on big clubs shopping list, is he another Bellingham where lots of clubs are linked, including LFC, but he ends up at RM or MC? He does seem to have bundles of talent, are LFC interested, and more pertinently, is there any prospect of the club putting the money on the table?
{Ed002's Note - Florian Wirtz (AM/F) Arrived as a replacement for Havertz and made an immediate impact with admirers in Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich sending scouts. Newcastle have a very experienced third party continuing scouting players in Germany for them and have also looked at Wirtz. He signed a new long-term contract in 2024 but struggled to play early last season due to serious injury. Newcastle remain keen if he could prove his fitness but chances of them signing him are very low. Bayer Leverkusen will not want to sell and will point to the length of his contract. Chelsea have him on a list of possible AM options but have a preferred option. Liverpool have not made any offer for the player as many of the fans think and can likely be discounted with other English sides. Expect Bayern Munich or Real Madrid to try to negotiatea transfer, probably Real Madrid would be favourites. A wildcard would be Barcelona or Manchester City as a de Bruyne replacement.}

I like Tsimikas as a person, you don't hear about him whinging about game time and when he fills in he gives it his all.
Everyone around the club speaks well of him and he has become a bit of a character. Not every squad player has to be top tier but giving 100% has to be the number one priority.
To be honest I think we have been spoilt with Robbo and Trent being so consistently brilliant over the last 7/ 8 seasons.
When you think back over the years in the Premier League
We have never had two outstanding players in l/ b and r/ b the same time. We always shoehorned midfielders or centre backs in and hoped for the best.
We have both sides covered with Bradley and Tsimikas and although they may not get as many assists they both add a bit of grit and determination to the game, they will give their all for the club and become legends in the history of LFC. I hope! ??.

Klopp's loyalty? When he axed and replaced an entire midfield in one window - including his captain and vice captain?

I’m going to jump in here, how are you ed25 mate?
MK makes a good point, to stay at the top you need to be ruthless and this is where Fergie won. He was ruthless when it came to moving players on in order to improve the squad
Drogie.
{Ed025's Note - im good thanks Drogie, yeah mate there is no sentiment in business and players come and go..

So how’s Coleman still on Everton’s books then?
{Ed025's Note - because we dont have a viable replacement WDW, our 2 full backs are pretty weak at the moment but we have not had the resources to replace them, Seamus has been a great player for us but his age and fitness are against him now, but he is still club captain and his influence in the dressing room is invaluable still, and bought for £60,000 he will go down as an Everton legend and one of the best pieces of business in premier league history mate, lets not mention Coleman and Tsimikas in the same sentence please, one of them is a fullback who holds legendary status...the other one plays for Liverpool..
